I'm not much of a Queen fan because I never liked Freddie Mercury as you can always tell it's him when you hear any of their songs. I heard several times on the radio that he was dead and I wanted to look up the band's biography to see how he died, where he got his name from and, how he first met the other members and where the band's name came from and a site read that he didn't tell anybody he was ill until the day before he died only 45. I reckon had he told anybody about his illness earlier, he would still be alive today and he would be 60 this year

It was AIDS. He would have died anyway. He didn't make an issue of it earlier because he wanted his privacy. When you think about it, the band and managers did a bloody good job hiding it for about 4 years.
A history lesson, eh...? Well, Brian and Rger were in a band with Tim Staffell (who went on to make models for TTTE) called smile and this bloke talks to them after a performance saying "You should do this, this and this..." That was Freddie. Eventually Tim left because the band weren't going in the direction he wanted, and Freddie took over. John came some time later.

John Decan also is the member of queen who does the fewest appearances with the band, only appearing twice after freddies death with them (once at the tribute concert, and once at an aids benefit).
also robbie williams has covered the queen songs "We will rock you", and "we are the champions".
queen also had their music as the soundtrack to the game "Queen: the eye" (or a title like that).

Queen had a game? Yeesh.....
Also, I was watching Don't Stop Me Now and I'm Going Slightly Mad's videos on YouTube, and I must say, I love how bored and annoyed John always looks. ;D

I love how bored and annoyed John always looks. ;D I just love Brian May's hair ;D Here's a bit of trivia that most people probably actually know already - Brian May (and other member of Queen, who I forget) appeared in the Amarillo music video last year

Would have been Roger Taylor, Chris - John Deacon isn't big on the whole public appearences thing. And I agree with you on Brian May's hair. ;D

Meaning no disrespect here, EdwardTerence, but isn't that the same for most bands - it's normally the lead singer? And I reckon songs like Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Another One Bites the Dust (from the same Album) are quite different. And he didn't sing EVERY song - Brian and Roger generally sang one or 2 each on the early albums as well.
OK, now I'm going to do something that will be quite difficult for me to manage. You know how I mentioned last page how Queen consitently 'wows' you after you haven't heard their songs for a while? Well, from now until my birthday I will abstain from Queen and then listen to the whole back catalogue (of songs I have) in order. I won't come into this thread, no listening to Queen songs at all. Afterwards, I'll give my opinion on each album and revise my favourites.
March is gonna be hell.

I would like to note one queen song that I like a lot. It's called 39' and it's off a night at the opera. It's very similiar to a country song. It's works really well, and has some great lyrics.

In interviews with Brian May and Roger Taylor, they said he'd have loved it - apparently Free was one of Queen's big influences in their early days.
And wouldn't it make sense for Freddie to beat random nongs at singing his songs...?

For those of you american idol fans I will never watch it again(this season is bad anyway) after seeing the butcher all of those queen songs(especially the girl who did the bohemian rhapsody)

Oh man, as soon as I saw this topic, I knew I was on a good MB. Heck, I might even give my fan character Islington a Freddie moustache. I am a monstrous Queen fan, and quite possibly one of the biggest in Canada.
My favourite songs tend to be some of the lesser known ones like Hammer to Fall, Breakthru, I Want It All, Headlong, and I Can't Live With You (the 1997 retake). I've gotten all the 15 studio albums, the few live ones, the Live Aid performance (bought the whole DVD set just for Queen, basically), and went to see Queen + Paul Rodgers in Toronto when they came (ORGASMIC).
I personally would love to see a music video merging TTTE with Breakthru, as the actual music video involves the band playing on a train. Have a look!

Hm, "orgasmic"... that's quite an adjective.... Anyway, just recently I came across a post on Queenonline where some guy analyzed the lyrics to Bo Rhap in a way that nearly knocked the wind out of me. I'll look it up again and post it tommorow. (also, listening to Scandal right now... dang, this song's under-rated...)

Okay folks, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. My dad just agreed to buy some Queen songs off Musicmatch and burn them onto a disc for me. The catch is that he's not willing to pay more than $15 for now. So that means I'm limited to 15 songs. There are a few definates (Bo Rhap, Don't Stop Me Now, Somebody to Love, Hammer to Fall), but I'd like your opinions on what else I should have put on the disc. I'm just downright bad at picking out stuff like this...
