I just heard about Postman Pat's revamp on Yahoo News. I'm not happy. First Ajay Bains's family and now the van's getting replaced? I'm not happy. Although the fact he's getting a Blackberry sounds cool.
Later: Ah, so there are going to be new characters. Greendale's getting a "Jamie Oliver", now troubles there. There's going to be a wheelchair-bound character? What?!
First the Bains family and now this? What is this? Clifford the Big Red Dog (if you've seen that show you'll noticew all of Emily Elizabeth's friends are ethnic minorities and the only Caucasian is wheelchair bound)? I'm not happy that Postman Pat is having to pay more lipservice to things like these.

Just read the full article on that and apparently this Jamie Oliver type runs a mobile shop and library. Ironic considering Sam Waldron was axed from this series! www.postmanpat.com/The official Postman Pat site has been given a revamp, showcasing all the new characters and includes a selection of video clips from the new series. Thankfully, Pat's classic van does appear in one of them, so I don't think it's been ditched entirely as the press releases keep claiming. Unfortunately though, the clips also reveal they've brought in a new, younger sounding voice actor to play Pat. He's got the accent right, but it's a shame they didn't stick with Ken Barrie. Happily, Barrie is still with the series - at least providing the voices of Ted, Alf and PC Selby.

I just found out about this do over for Pat, and at first, part of my childhood died, seeing the classic countryside postman being pushed aside.
I bonded easily to Postman Pat as a child because of that for as I grew up in similar surroundings. For years, my Dad would get up at 4am every Monday to Saturday, get into the drivers seat of his Bedford van and deliver the paper and milk to the four villages and the houses between in, all 16 square mile of them. And sometimes, I would join him in that dear old milk float, early in morning, just as day is dawning. Those mornings are some of my most cherished childhood memories. And if that wasn't enough, once back house the house at 11am and refreshed, Dad ran the village store and the post office counter (another connection with Postman Pat) with my Mum till 6. And for worked for the Post Office itself for 15 years. So as a result, I feel pretty connected with the Postal service.
Anyway, back on topic. While the move from Greendale and the countryside can be gut wrenching, this change could be interesting, we could see the more intriguing parts of the postal service in the new urban setting. Look at the structure that was needed to operate the Traveling Post Office for instance or the Post Office's personal underground system in London (which Dad has seen) linking the main sorting offices and the main line stations. The copper however, is wince-inducing.
But the one story I'd love to see in the Post Office current situation, Pat having to save Greendale Post Office from closure and it becoming a satellite branch which only opens on Wednesday!

Well, I caught the first episode today and it was pretty enjoyable. The BBC have it on their Iplayer if anyone wants to catch up: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00dt2ck/Quite an exciting episode to start off with. I feel it keeps the spirit of and is very much a continuation of the previous series, as well as introducing several exciting new elements. Good to see the Cosgrove Hall team are still making the show in traditional stop-motion for the most part, but as can be expected in this day and age, also touching a couple of scenes up with computers. I'll definately be tuning in or recording the rest of the series. One minor goof I spotted though - somehow, both the schoolbus (Pat's repainted post bus) and Pat's new "eco-friendly" van have the same numberplate, PAT 2 ! As for the voice changover I was a bit miffed about, Entertainment Rights have issued a press release on the new series today and have devoted a paragraph to that very issue: www.entertainmentrights.com/news/article_1140.asp

Postman Pat: SDS... I thought it was going to be a huge let down for me since I grew up with the program, but instead I rather liked the change to it but I still like Greendale better period. Unfortunately I have to download the episodes from the iPlayer due to the fact their not airing it in[Scotland. Micheal Lam is kind of the same as Sam Waldron but he only had one role so its a bit too early to speculate. The catchphrases that Postman Pat now keeps saying(e.g. Mission Accomplished, etc.) is getting really repetitive and hearing those same words again and again is making me stress! At least Ken Barrie is still here with the programme (not as Pat ) and so is (a slightly newer rendition of) the old opening theme. That song makes me feel nostalgic. My brother thought The Tepee was crap but its a brand new direction the old Postman is taking. BTW I laughed out loud at the opening where he drives right through the bush! Its as if he can't drive a motorbike! ;D

I've seen the new series and it doesn't look too bad. The guy they've got to voice Pat actually does a good job. He does sound like Ken Barrie. It's good to see what Pencaster looks like after hearing so much about it. So it looks like Sam Waldron isn't coming back. I've been wondering if the axed characters would come back some day (like a certain show had done with their axed characters ) I won't count on Granny Dyden coming back but Peter Fogg had a family in the books so their could be a chance for him. It's good Mrs Goggins is still around and they haven't replaced her at all with Pat's new manager. Is Mr Pringle still around? I haven't seen him so far (although we've only seen two) I'm getting the feeling the new teacher has replaced him.

(a slightly newer rendition of) the old opening theme. That song makes me feel nostalgic. The latest arrangment of the theme tune seems a lot closer to the classic 80's version than the one used for the initial "comeback" series of 2003 to 2006. Just wish they'd got Ken Barrie in to sing it again, as Pat's new VA sounds a bit weak doing it (I think it's him on vocals, anyway). That aside, like OJ, I'm impressed with him as an actor. He's a pretty good soundalike for Ken Barrie. Of the four episodes so far, for me none have bettered the first. Most have focussed too much on the children, but today's with the Robots had some funny moments and better use of the adult characters. Rather liked the scene where Mrs Goggins made the decision to sort the parcels "the old fashioned way", by hand! Is Mr Pringle still around? I haven't seen him so far (although we've only seen two) I'm getting the feeling the new teacher has replaced him. According to her profile on the website, that seems to be the case. Shame really, as she's come across as incredibly bland and uninteresting so far. As for axed characters coming back, I'd love to see the the return of either George Lancaster or Miss Hubbard. Other than Ted, who I've seen described as a "crazy inventor" a few times, the cast seems to missing amusing, eccentric characters like these. Surely a way could be found to make them fit into this new format.

Yeah i'd like to see some more crazy characters as well. I'd also like to see a trouble maker as well. That would be fun. I've just noticed that the Pottage family seem to have been axed as well. You'd have thought they'd have kept them as the children seem to get alot of focus these days. If you watched todays episode (which is Movie feast) or watch it on BBC I player you are in for a treat. The movie in the episode that was shown was a certain 80's cartoon. No other than Charlie Chalk. He doesn;t actually appear you just see Merrytwit background and Trader Jones's Vehicle Nice to see it's not forgoten.

I thought that was quite clever myself, OJ, watched it this morning after recording it on Sky HD, and although the story lines are as far removed from classic Pat as they could possibly be, I quite like Special Delivery Service. It's slightly different and actually sees focus upon Pat rather than the children...!

Suppose it had to happen sooner or later, as both Bob the Builder and Thomas have had big screen outings. The question is how "big" this Postman Pat film is going to be? A full blown release or just a few limited weekend screenings like HOTR? Very unlikely, but it could end up going head to head with the 2011 Thomas movie!
The plot doesn't sound too bad, it could well work. Kinda hope they base the film around Greendale and the more classic characters to appeal to the nostalgics in the audience. The SDS series hasn't really grabbed me, to be honest. It got fairly formulaic after a few episodes and the new faces are all so bland.

Hopefully the others will appear although I've got the feeling Pat will go to America. SDS wasn't too bad for me but I can see you point with the new faces. It really bugs me that Mr Pringle has left without an explination but Charlie is still around. Other than Pat;'s boss they could have used the characters they had instead of new ones but it looks like they had to create them so his manager could have a family. His wife = could have used Mr pringle girl in wheelchair = One of the Pringle twins Chinese chef = Sam Waldron

Ah yes, Very interesting stuff there. I always liked Bryan's music since I first saw the show; a few themes I remember was the, what I call, 'Cheerful Music' which was first played in 'Pat and the Tuba' when pat goes to Granny Drydans house. The other one, which is my most fav is 'Travelling Music' first played in Pats finding day at the Tompsan's house and was last played in the toy soliders. The theme was also played again (guitar solo) in the ABC/123 series and on Audio cassete of 'Pat takes the bus'; not sure about the toy soldiers version but if anyone has that tape let mee know, please.

Ah Postman Pat, I remember that show when I was youngster, Bryan Daly did incredible music. I like his music for 'Handy man' and 'Looking At Life Through A Farmer's Eyes'. The original episodes from 1981 - 1996 were great and the new series with Ajay Bains and the Greendale Rocket were great too. It brought back my interest to the series. I love the songs of the Greendale rocket and the funniest scene was during the song when Ted was looking through the firebox of the locomotive, meanwhile Pat removed a shrub from the funnel and gave Ted a sooty face. And also when Pat was hammering something inside the cab and he later accidentally hit Ted's hand. Postman Pat SDS was great too, I always wanted to see what Pencaster always looked like, but what I don't like is that they don't use the 'Greendale Rocket' anymore. Ajay really much used that the modern one as usual. BTW has anyone seen this: TMRReturns

I wonder what character voices those three actors will be voicing? characters in the show or brand new characters. I hope Ken Barrie will be voicing characters.
I hope they get Maggie Smith to voice Mrs Goggins. She would be good for the part.
