The funny thing it that this had "membership by approval," too. I don't think I was searching for "Sodor Island Forums," either... I dunno. It is the proper group. It was set up by Eliot a long term member here on SIF. He made it invitation only so he could monitor who was joining the group. Hope this helps

I'm starting to get annoyed with Facebook. Whenever I use the chat function, it'll slow my computer down considerably. It's even crashed a couple of times. Does anyone else have this problem?

I have had a problem myself, not one like yours Aidan but I have had problems where sometimes the 'Chat Function' doesn't allow me to chat to people due to 'errors' of some kind that keeps popping up with 'Internet Explorer Script Error' on it (which of course I don't use explorer I use BT Broadband).

I've had problems with facebook...I've lost contact with 3 people, 2 of them from SiF, during separate Facebook updates.

Facebook's been messing up an incredible amount today, I'm presuming they're having problems. I've also heard a RUMOUR of a facebook virus, but I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. Odds are it'll be sorted out in time.

Facebook is messing about this evening, first it wouldn't let me log in because Internet Explorer couldn't find the page, then once logged in it would allow me to click on 'Like' for something I liked or even comment because of 'errors', and now it's driving me nuts by going slow.
I hope there isn't a Virus as 'the Colonel' mentioned last Thursday about there being one, that's all Facebook needs.
Is anyone else having this problem, I know this isn't the first time I've had trouble like this?

As far as I can tell there seems to be some sort of widespread communications error. Facebook and MSN are currently both not working too well.
The problem I was having earlier with facebook was that things weren't being reported on the home page beyond a certain time. Whether or not this comment or like disability is the virus, I can't be sure. I have heard however that this rumoured virus spreads through peoples' friends lists. However, as far as I know, these are just rumours, and I can't say there is definately some sort of virus.
As for MSN, I have no idea, but it doesn't seem to let anyone send a message at the moment. I suggest any vital communcations between SiF members be sent via SiF PM or through hotmail, if is still operational.
I hope the problems are all fixed soon whatever is wrong. I'll report back should I discover anything further.
Nicholas.

Is anyone else having problems with the chat feature? For about a week or so now, every time I try to talk to someone, they'll immideately go offline, and I'll not be able to chat to them. But if I go offline, they come back online again, and I get the same problem if I try to talk to them.....?

I don't bother with the chat function. I do find that it can load real slow on occasions but i've not experienced anything major with it. I also have not had probs logging in either.

Has anyone tried the "Facebook trick" ?
Dunno what it is? Try this:
Click on a blank space somewhere, then press the following arrow keys:
UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A ENTER
Then click or type something. Random and kinda cool as well.

I've just had a really weird problem with facebook. My live feed just brought up some new stories. A few of them concern people I know, but I'd have to say the majority of them are things like 'someone has just joined such a group', only I have no clue who this person. I looked them all up, and I have no relation to any of them. No mutual friends or anything. Just... random people coming up on my Live Feed. I have no proper explanation, is anyone else experiencing anything similar?

Perhaps they're joining the same groups you are, or are becoming fans of the same thing as well?
Not really sure otherwise....... can you see their entire profile? If so, you may be in the same network as them.

Not really. It's people I don't know joining groups I've never joined, and some I've never come across before. Can't be anything like the same network or server or what-have-you, as I can't view their full profiles or anything like that.
Upon refreshing the page the 'randomers' seem to no longer be listed on my Live Feed. Must have just been a temporary anomaly. The internet equivilant of crossed wires, perhaps? Peculiar nonetheless.

Something that I thought was noteworthy on a friend's status:
If you don't know, as of today, Facebook will automatically index all your info on Google, which allows everyone to view it. To change this option, go to Settings --> Privacy Settings --> Search --> then UN-CLICK the box that says 'Allow indexing'.

There have been misleading rumors recently about Facebook indexing all your information on Google. This is not true. Facebook created public search listings in 2007 to enable people to search for your name and see a link to your Facebook profile. That's all the "indexing" does, nothing to worry about. Uncheck the box if you don't want people to find you.

A little word of warning for those on Facebook: uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20091216/twl-net-users-warned-of-social-networkin-3fd0ae9.htmlWatch out for this festive virus, sounds rather deadly. EDIT:Okay, I've got a problem of my own. Not to do with the Virus I mentioned, but due to the fact that I can't access my profile on facebook. I can go login and go onto my friends profiles, but not my own. I keep getting: 'Internet Script Writer Error' thing or whatever it's called, which doesn't go away if I click 'Yes' or 'No' (only once did it actually go away). Is anyone else having this problem or has had this problem or know what I'm talking about? I had this problem last week, but then it was working fine at the start of this week and now it's playing up again. I'm trying to contact the Staff on facebook, but I can't seem to find anything but questions that don't help. It's annoying me, I can go anywhere but my own profile which sounds stupid. I reckon it's something to do with those updates Facebook talked about regarding the 'privacy', my page was working fine before they talked about all that and fiddled around with everything. That's only my own theory, but that's what I reckon it has to do with.
