Here, you can talk about the series about the famous fireman of Pontypandy. I haven't seen the new series yet, but I used to love the original series, particularly the scenes with Dilys and Norman. There is one scene that stands out in my head more than any other. This is taken from the beginning of 'Lost in the fog'.
Narrator: The atmosphere is so thick here in Pontypandy, that you can cut it with a knife. Norman has been letting off stink-bombs again.
(We see Dilys spraying her shop through)
Dilys: Poof! NORMAN! Norman: Yes, mam? Dilys: (says something about the stinkbombs, can't remember what). Norman: It was an accident mam. Honest! Dilys: Accident, my foot! Well somebody's got to clean the shop right through! Norman: Well, I was going to go to Bella's to have tea with Sarah and James, then we're going to the pictures after. Dilys: Well, I'll just have to tell her you can't go! Norman: Mam!
Anyway, my fav episodes were:
Brass Band: Loved their rendition of 'Men of Harlech.' Telly Trouble: I laughed when the television exploded. All in a good cause: Loved the scene where Norman makes Trevor the Bus stand in the concrete, as well as him writing in it at the end. Dilys's Forgetful Day: The scene where Norman makes Dilys fall of the ladder was hilarious, as well as her loss of memory. Dilys and Norman were both great characters in their day. Lost in the Fog: Mainly for my above quote.
I haven't seen all of the originals, but these stick out in my head.

Ah, Fireman Sam...
Used to love this series to bits and pieces! But I'm afraid, and I speak for most people here, that the new series does NOT do the old fireman justice at all. I'll leave it to Chris to point out the changes in the new seris, 'cos I'm just too nostalgic at the moment. (When he hears that fire bell chime, Sam is always there on time...)
The music was awesome too.

Yes the old Fireman Sam was good. I liked the one with Bently the robot. I saw an old one recently. It was the one where he made a popcorn machine.
The new series is OK. Too much Norman though but it's not the same without John Alderton. He is a great narrator.

I heard about the changes myself. Does Dilys still shout "NORMAN!" anymore?

I have seen re-runs recently. I think she might have done once but it wasn't as distinguishable as it was in the classic series.

There is one ep I've heard of which I've never seen, but would like to. The ep in question, I think, is 'Chemistry set', in which Norman sets out to create the pongiest stink-bomb in the world.

It's quite funny, because Norman uses his new concoxion on Elvis' spaghetti bolognese! Fireman Sam: Cor! I smell another of Elvis' gastric delights, sir.Steele: *sniffs* Phew! It smells rather like... Rotten eggs!

Ah, fantastic little series this (the original, anyway). What better thing for a kid to be raised on than this, Postman Pat and, of course, Thomas? My favourite episodes are: Spot of Bother: Just got lots of memorable scenes in it, really. I liked the bit where Trevor split his trousers! Bentley the Robot: Another episodes that stick in my memory from when I was young. The fire was quite a scarey one. Norman was in real danger here, unlike most of the laughable situations in the new series. I thought Bentley was a cool character too. Pity we didn't see more him in later episodes Lost in the Fog: I remember finding this one quite scarey, when I was younger. I still think the rescue scene is one of the most powerful in the series. The music is great for that scene. Oh, and Trevor Evans' theme tune. 'Nuff said

There are three little letters to tell you who's been making the new series of Fireman Sam. I'll give you a clue. They have allready taken over Thomas. Yes, that's right. HIT. Anyway the ones I love from the classic series are:
The one where they go strawberry picking and Norman falls down a well, Snow Buisness (My heart melted when Bella started crying and she said "It reminds me of when I was a little girl in Italy." Also, a drunk Dyllys made me laugh like heck!), The one where Bella got stuck in the lift in the dept store and the one where Sam made the potato picker.

I don't like the new season much, but my favourite character is the guy in the white helmet. I think my favourite story is All In A Good Cause because I like raising money for things. I laughed when Elvis hammered the tap and got soaked crying out "I'm drowning! Oh, Help!" in Telly Trouble.

To be honest, I always preferred FS to Postman Pat, probably because it had more action in it. Not saying Postman Pat's bad, of course. Now, rather then go into a big rant over the new series, I'm going to say this about the newer episodes; despite character changes, Sams dreadful new look and the laughable situations (and the morals that follow), it's still one of the better things on childrens tv today. At least it hasn't been Americanized. I mean, we all still watch Thomas despite it's major changes
The only episodes I've seen more recently are the ones on the 'Best of' dvd, but my favorites are: Wishing Well: I liked the subplot with Station Officer Steeles medal Home from Rome: The scenes with Dilys and Norman on holiday were funny Brass Band: The only one not on the 'Best of' dvd that I can remember vividly, and one of my all time favs anyway. I particularly liked the ending, and the scenes with the band practising: Steele: Okay, after two.... *trumpet blows* Steele: CRIDLINGTON, I haven't said one yet. Okay, after two; one, two.... *fire bell rings* Steele: Who was that? WHO WAS THAT!
Favorite character was Steele; I've always liked pompous characters like him. Another fond favorite is Dilys; John Alderton gave her the perfect voice!
One last thing; the shows music rocks, particularly the opening theme! ;D

I agree. John Alderton was a great narrator in the show's heyday. Anyway, I heard somewhere that Sam is now voiced by John Sparkes (who stars in one of my favourite comedy programmes 'Barry Welsh Is Coming.'). Is this true?

Thanks for that, Chris. Sorry to go slightly off-topic, but I would highly recommend Barry Welsh Is Coming. John Sparkes represents a comedy show about all things Welsh. I'll set up a seperate thread if need be.
Anyway, what has happened to John Alderton?

. Anyway, what has happened to John Alderton? Stuart Could we ask HIT? I would also like to know. We do have the contact details. Episodes I remember are one where a Barn gets set on fire and I also remember when Norman falls down in a mine.

The one where they go strawberry picking and Norman falls down a well, Snow Buisness (My heart melted when Bella started crying and she said "It reminds me of when I was a little girl in Italy." Also, a drunk Dyllys made me laugh like heck!) I always come close to tears when I watch that one. Two types of tears, actually. Hilarity (Dilys getting drunk over the wine and flirting with Trevor was brilliant. Dilys: YES! Saved the day, my Norman. *eats a mince pie* Mmm! These pince mies are quite good, you know!*hiccoughs*Bella: Pardon?--- Dilys: *Holds up a mistletoe next to Trevor* TREVOR! how about a Christmas kiss, eh?*Trevor gets scared, when Sam comes into the cafe* Sam: Tree's up everyone!Trevor: Righto, Sam! *whispers* Saved by the bell...Dilys: Well... He's so shy---y...) ... and the old emotional tears, mainly because of the music. Ever noticed that in the new series, Penny Morris almost gets killed twice ( Bentley the Robot and Haloween)?

Here's the link www.tv.com/fireman-sam/show/23394/episode_guide.html&season=other You just click Other after you click Episodes. But I can explain as I've seen it dozens of times in my life: It is Christmas Eve and there is no Christmas tree until Mr Roberts phones the fire station to tell them they can have one, although they've got to go and chop it down themselves. The fire bell rings when they have to pull Trevor's bus out of a snowdrift because he was so busy singing the Deck the Halls song, he didn't look where he was going. He had already taken Sarah, James and Norman to a hill to sledge and was on his way back. Norman's mum is clearing the path and is not pleased that Norman isn't helping. Meanwhile the crew pull Trevor's bus out with no trouble and they then go to the forest to chop their tree down. Sam chops it down and Elvis finds something for their dinner. Meanwhile, the kids are enjoying their sledging, even though Norman always won. He wants another race and this time, instead of stopping at the bottom as usual, they carry on towards the pond. Norman isn't worried and wants them to do a flyer whatever that may be over the pond. He flies over the pond and lands safely on the other side, unhurt. But Sarah and James aren't so lucky and land on the ice which starts cracking underneath them. Bravely, Norman goes to phone the fire service. The crew are just getting the tree into the fire engine when they get the call and they have to abandon the tree and collect it later. They soon arrive and using the ladder, they extend it across the ice until it reaches the kids. Sarah goes first and crawls across the ladder on both hands and feet and reaches the other side. Then it is James's turn and he makes it safe and sound too. Both kids get wrapped in a warm blanket and as they explain about doing a flyer, Sam tells them not to do it again and even Norman promises. Meanwhile everyone has their Christmas dinner in Bella's Cafe until they are told that the tree is ready. They all gather round as the guy in the white helmet (not sure of name) makes an announcement and switches the lights on. Everyone thinks it is beautiful, all except Bella who is feeling sad because she misses her Christmas time in Italy. They are all sorry for her, but Sarah, James and Norman get a present from Sam and the story ends when Sam hangs up his stockings and looks out the window thinking he's a bit old now. In the ending credits, the lights in the houses go out one by one. Not a bad story, it's the only one to feature snow until the newer episodes, my favourite quote was "Move along Elvis, get your skates on." and also "TIMBER!". 7/8 out of 10
