Hey fellas I just watched The new special Norman price and the mystery in the sky. SpoilerIt was fine, a bit corny how they kept using comic book terms such as arch villain, and it's very obvious that they were parodying marvel. But I liked that the scene at the end with Sam praising Norman's part in saving the day and saying that a true hero comes from his heart not from what he wears.
I overall liked it at the moment but my feelings could change what do you guys think? have you seen it? did you like it?

Another childhood classic that I grew up with and still watch to this day. My life would never have been complete without Fireman Sam. The theme song is a real gem and well suited for an action-oriented children's program. A round of applause for Ben Henegan and Ian Lawson for the composition, Robin Lyons for the lyrics and Mal Pope for the vocals.
There are also so many likable characters (even naughty Norman Price), that I can't think of one I dislike, not to mention episodes (from the classic era, anyway). And we have to give the narrator John Alderton a pat on the back for managing to provide the right voice for a certain character.
I also approve of Series 5, for its inclusion of female voice actors, uprated Rescue Theme, and improved stop motion animation techniques (that's far from saying that the animation in the Classic Series is bad, which it isn't). And although the writing isn't quite as solid as it is in the Classic Series, it's still quite good. Series 5 is also proof of how a reboot of a classic TV show should be and should've stayed that way instead of going CGI. Wasted potential, if you ask me.
Anyway, my favourite episodes to boot are:
Thief in Pontypandy Deep Trouble for Sam Snow Business (Christmas special) Treasure Hunt Lost Cat Sam the Great Inventor Brass Band A Spot of Bother Trevor's Training Bentley the Robot Barn Fire Chemistry Set Camping All in a Good Cause What Goes Up Norman's Pitfall Danger Falling Sheep Joker Soaker Twist of Fate Fit for Nothing Trouble and Squeak Rich and Famous Sam's Day Off Flat Tyre Norman's Tricky Day Barn Fire Telly Trouble Bug Eyed Boy from Venus Wishing Well

It has been mentioned a few times in interviews with the creators of Fireman Sam that Dilys was based on legendary Coronation Street character Hilda Ogden. Another obvious nod to her I recently noticed is that Dilys also has the infamous flying duck wall decorations up in the living room in Series 4. Not sure if they were seen prior to that.

And let's not forget Station Officer Steele being based on Captain Mainwaring from Dad's Army.

And how could we ever forget the exhilarating Rescue Theme?

Probably old news since they've been up on YouTube for a few years, but I definitely recommend checking out the small handful of Fireman Sam audiobooks that were read by John Alderton. Thanks to the solid writing, they basically feel like "lost episodes". A shame he didn't record many. This one is a particular favourite:

And I did say that I dare not make the same mistake again.
By the way, I have listened to the audiobooks and they are brilliant. "Sam's Night Watch" is without doubt my favourite of them all. However, some are not narrated by John Alderton. Some of them are narrated by two other narrators called Nigel Pegram and Victor Spinetti.

Here's a little song dedicated to Sam's beloved niece and nephew.

One that's got the tongues wagging on Twitter, and it's certainly caught my eye...
A couple of years ago, Fireman Sam came under fire for still using the term ‘fireman’ well into the 2000’s. I speculated either the show would end or it would get a revamp, complete with new title. Well it seems they went for the latter…sort of…
I haven’t seen any of the episodes - just the new theme tune. But, as well as speeding it up to the point of not sounding natural, they’ve changed the lyrics so nearly every utterance of Sam is replaced with “The Rescue Team”, with the intro really pushing the team dynamic (i.e. the new police characters they introduced last year).
But the show is still called Fireman Sam. It's so bizarre – not even a new subtitle, they still just call it Fireman Sam, despite the new theme tune suggesting he’s almost become a side character in his own show. He’s even pushed behind Penny in the ‘hero shot’ in the new opening.
It is strange, and a real shame to alter something so iconic (I'm also hearing whispers they've retired that infamous 'rescue' theme too - the one used in nearly every emergency for the past 35 years). But as I say, I haven't watched any full episodes to pass too much judgement, and I haven’t been a regular viewer in years, it’s not that big a deal. Plus, I suppose it could’ve been worse – they could’ve revamped the entire look in 2D and called it All (Fire) Engines Go...

I agree with Old Square Wheels. Looks like Fireman Sam has been "demoted" from protagonist but I can partly understand. I remember on the SIF blogs and Ryan once said a writer likes characters who provides alot of conflict which can provide good stories. I beleive this is why Norman is featued alot as he does provide conflict and alot of PontyPandy emergencies. I remember one series the flashback episode was about him and not Sam. Also the last special was called Norman Price's name in the title. I would say in that special he was the main character
I can also underatand the show wanting to push for more strong female characters (saying that I've always found Dilys entertaining the model series era due to John Alderton's voice acting) as that's the way things are now which can be a good thing. Notice Penny was also in front of Fireman Sam on the cover of Mystery in the Sky speical.
