A lot of mixed emotions here. It's good that the show's returning to its less-crowded spring slot, but the lack of new episodes this year bar the traditional Christmas special still sucks regardless. Six seasons is a long run for anyone working in TV drama, but I love Moffat's vision of Doctor Who and I'm sad it's finally wrapping up. Chris Chibnall is certainly an experienced showrunner, but aside from his Series 7 work, I've found his episodes kinda average and his Torchwood stories are among the few things in the entire franchise I genuinely cannot stand. Cyberwoman, anyone? I shouldn't worry, though. Shake-ups like these are the secret to Doctor Who's eternal youth. It's one of the main reasons I adore the franchise in the first place. Besides, we're still nearly two years away from the actual passing of the torch, so I'm going to appreciate Moff's stuff while it lasts and keep an open mind with the new boy.

I'm sure once we give Chris Chibnall a chance, things may be smooth sailing, and things may not be. We won't truly find out until he actually starts. The only jarring thing is that we're being made to wait a full year before we get to see another new episode of Doctor Who. But it certainly will add to our excitement and anticipation, at least I'm sure it will do so for me. It's always good to wait and test the water before making any rash judgements. I'm quite excited to see how things will play out, though.

Similarly disappointed by the lack of Doctor Who this year. I've loved Moffat's time, but I agree it's probably time for him to go. I enjoyed his Series 7 efforts, but yeah, Chibnall's kind of a lackluster choice. Still, he has experience in running a show, so hopefully, we'll get something kinda wonderful.
More worried about Peter Capaldi's future beyond Series 10. I'm hoping he sticks it out with Chibnall for a year or two. David and Matt both did three series spread across four years, and I'm frightened Peter's going to follow the pattern and leave with Moffat. I'd love to see him continue, sort of bridging the gap between Moffat and Chibnall.

I'm actually quite glad that Moffat is stepping down. Yes, he's a great show runner but his stories get ever more convoluted and difficult to follow. I was hoping that we might get some more fun and less headache-inducing stories, but bearing in mind Chibnall's Broadchurch pedigree then maybe not..

I don't mind the "difficult to follow" part of it, because it adds to the fun in my opinion. But the way Steven was going about it was perhaps adding too much to the stories that weren't necessary. Like, it made quite a few "Mary Sue/Gary Sue" points. But The way i am, I still enjoy it anyways, despite those few bits. Let us hope Chris Chibnall doesn't make it as confusing as Broadchurch.
And I agree with the thought that Capaldi should stick around to try out Chibnall's stories. It would be sad to see him go along with Moffat.

Am I the only one who thinks Karl Pilkington would make a good Doctor?

The first I saw Doctor Who was when I was 10 Years old when I saw a trailer for one of the shows episodes. I became a fan of Doctor Who when I was 12, when it was the day of the 50th anniversary of the show, which I saw the Day of the Doctor that night. From that day on I was a big fan of Doctor Who.

Sad news for the Whoniverse today, Peter Capaldi has announced he's leaving the show. He wasn't my favourite Doctor, but he will definitely be missed by me at least. He's done a phenomenal job the last few years, particularly with his solo episode from last series. Now, let the speculation wheel begin again! www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-38805151

I think I must be unusual here because I started out with the classic series before I saw the new rebooted series, just the other day I was watching 'the krotons' with Pat Troughton followed by 'the war machines' with William Hartnell

It's going ok so far but I was really hoping Capaldi was going to be sticking around for a while longer as he's made for a great Doctor. Initially I was a little disappointed when Clara left but in looking back she did have a good run and I'm still enjoying Bill as the new assistant. Not sure if I would say the episode plots themselves have been stellar but i'm enjoying how things are unfolding, especially the build up for ________ return.

Definitely not the worst series we've had, but I do think the start could have been stronger. Without going into spoiler territory, The Pilot and Smile were both more good than great. The last three episodes, however, have been excellent, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the rest of the series has to offer.
Despite the fact I'm not a fan of the episodes, I do think overall Bill has had a great introduction - she has tonnes more character than Clara had by this point in her first episodes certainly. Likewise, Capaldi has been on great form - a pity it's his last series really. May loop back round to this thread by the end of the series and give some more detailed thoughts then.

From my perspective this series is going pretty well so far, and I much prefer Bill as companion over Donna, Amy or Clara!

Oh I don't know Amy and especially Donna were pretty good assistants, though when Catherine Tate's knowledge about Doctor Who comes up during banter you'd question if she had ever been on the set Much as I enjoyed Christopher Eccleston's Doctor I can't say I miss Billie Piper's Rose though A wee bit late but i've caught up on the last ep now, best one of the series so far I reckon

I'm liking the new series at the moment. Peter Capaldi has really managed to fit into the role of the Doctor. He's playing the emotions of the Doctor just right, but he still manages to give us a chuckle in a few scenes. I'm surprised at Matt Lucas's character and how he's being towards the Doctor. But I still need to watch the Christmas 2016 Special to understand how and why he's being like that. Bill is a good companion, I agree. But I think it would be a good idea if we could learn a bit more about her and how much the Doctor does mean to her. SpoilerTogo Igawa (Hiro) will be making an appearance in this Saturday's episode. He will be playing the Secretary General in 'The Pyramid at the End of the World' .

I'll admit, I'm actually enjoying series 10 thus far. I think my favourite episode so far has been Thin Ice. Obviously I can't anything about Capaldi's portrayal of the Doctor that hasn't been said already. Bill is a good companion as its already been pointed out, but she doesn't really do much for me the that Amy and Clara have (mind you I've often felt that who'd be replacing Clara would have some big shoes to fill, because obviously we had so much involving Clara with the Impossible Girl theme and etc. - not to mention the absolute obvious when it comes to Jenna Coleman).

I made an interesting discovery last week: Timothy Bateson (the voice of O.J. and Big Mickey in TUGS) made an appearance in Doctor Who! He played Binro in the 1978 story 'The Ribos Operation' (I would include a link but unfortunately I can't find any of his scenes on YouTube).

I am not at all interested in any of the modern Doctor Who series, I watched some Tennant/Smith stories & found them really awful in every way imaginable.
I don't like these modern day Doctors, not my cup of tea at all, I'm a great fan of the Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee & Tom Baker incarnations of the Doctor, for me the qualities that made a lot of stories from those years of 1966-1977 memorable & watchable in my opinion was how great the stories were written, how good the actors (that is to say Doctor, Companion, supporting characters, etc) were & how well these stories have lasted and still look amazing on DVD years later is totally unbeatable, no offense but Classic Who is so much better, if you haven't experienced any of these, then you haven't lived, Classic Who rocks!

I just started watching series 10 last night, a bit anti-climactic I think, I suppose it will get more interesting in due course, what I fear is that they won't really do anything with the mondasian cybemen like with the classic daleks last series

I can honestly say that I wasn't expecting the news today for a minute. We have a Thirteenth Doctor! Spoiler Jodie Whittaker is the Thirteenth Doctor! The more I think about it the more excited I am for the future of my other favourite show. Are we going to have a male companion to accompany her or an all-female cast? What's her costume going to be? What will her first words be? My mind is just racing with excitement for what her first episodes will be like. I've always been of the opinion that as long as we had the right person for the job it didn't matter whether a man or a woman played the Doctor, and the more I think about it the more I know she's going to be brilliant. Best of luck to her!
