Recently, I landed a job as a paper boy. It'll make good use of my bike, give me plently of exercise, and it pays about $65 a week.I'm planning to save enough money for a plane ticket to London. I plan to attend a UK Members Meeting (sometime next UK spring).
Do you have a job?

I'm not even gonig to begin to tell you the problems I've been having, but having gotten out 9 applications this week alone, I'm doing well. [rant] Ah.......... try getting into Admin with qualifications, but no work experience..... or Animal care when nowhere around you is hiring..... oh, and the Job Centre doesn't do much else but send you onto course after course..... Not really, the most work I do is selling my cartoons. Forget working on a railway!

I have a volunteer job at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. I stuff brochures, re-arrange puzzles, etc.
Update: I've got more jobs around VMT. Now I operate the gift shop's cash register and help to work on the O-gauge model railroad in the museum.

Me? Get a job? Out here, it's too hard to find good work. There's plenty of places to put in an application for, but either no-one wants me or there's someone better ahead of me. Also, a lot of businesses aren't good at getting back to someone - I remember putting in at least 10 appilcations for the local grocery store, and they never called me back Then again, I like my freetime, though it would be nice to have a little cash ^^ ~Elizabeth

I've had several jobs throughout my teenage years...
I've worked in Warehouses...
I've worked in a Supermarket...
I've worked in a Wholesalers...
And currently for the past two years, been working as a Porter in a Hospital, which has to be the best job I have ever had. Everyone I've come across says to me, "Working in a Hospital must be a depressing job!"
On the contrary, believe me it's really one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Whether they're in with a broken leg, or something terminal, knowing that a friendly word and a cheery demeanour can make someone feel a bit more welcome and comfortable is a huge reward when providing a service. That and the pay is great, it means I can study, afford a flat with little need for subsidies from the Government or a funding body, and I can afford to lead a comfortable lifestyle.
Although I am asked to work 12 hour shifts on occasion, I really don't mind the hard graft for what I get out of it. I go home in the evening knowing I've made a difference, and when I do get a day off, I feel I've earned it.
One drawback is the monthly pay...that sucks!

I work for a small machine shop about 2 miles from where I live. We do machining, fabricating, welding...basically anything to keep us on our feet. There's only half a dozen of us working there, but it's a very relaxed atmosphere. And whenever I need to do someting on my car or any other private stuff, they allow me to. And the leave booking is very flexible.

I haven't one yet. If I did have a job, it would probably be in a small shop. Most of these close at 5.00 on a Saturday in my place, which would be handy for me, as I like to have my evenings free.

I haven't got a job yet as I'm still in college for another year. May consider getting one after I leave college but I'm not 100% sure yet as I may go to Uni.

[/rant] I agree with you about the jobcentre. They do absolutly nothing. If you tell an older person you're going to the job centre, they'll assume you're looking for a job there. People who work at the jobcentre don't like people being on Jobseekers allowence which is what I'm on. I did have a job (well an unpaid trial) in an office before christmas. It took ages to get there. Everyone was just giving me huge stacks of filing to do all because they didn't want to do it. Filing was the only task I did (I rarely did anything else) and I can't tell you enough how stressful and boring that was. It did get too much when I was in the middle of some filing and another collegue then came and gave me another stack of filing to do. It's not surprising that I left that job.

I just got a job last week working for 'Home Ice Cream', as a freezer hand and truck packer. It's a grand job, and I'm getting quite good money from it! ;D

Well, it's not the job I had been expecting, but it's got easy money! Yep, seeing as I'm tired of picking money from Mum's pocket and spending too much on my own, I decided to get myself some employment. Luckily, Dad suggested this good part time job at my Uni - ICT Support Assistant. It's a simple task of checking/patrolling/cleaning the Computer Rooms at different times (either 3 hours lunchtime or 4 hours evening) and getting £8 as a result. So when I'm not busy stressing over Coursework Deadlines, I'll be working my whatsits off on Wednesday Evenings and Thursday Lunchtimes. But hey - at £8 an hour, who could argue with that!?

Good one Christopher. I've tried loads of times to get work at Universities but they always employ people they know every single time.

I've had 3 jobs with the same organisation, but under different faculties/units. I work for the University of Sydney. Its an advantage to get around and meet various people in many faculties and departments, as when you know people, they're more likely to give you the job than to a complete stranger. I generally work 2 to 3 days a week, on days when I am not studying at Tafe (TAFE - Technical And Further Education - sort of like a Technical College where one studies up to a Diploma - Universities give you Batchelor Degrees).
Work for universities. The pay and working conditions are usually far better than anywhere else. I earn good money, but being 20 years old, and sharing a home with my mother, I have to pay quite a few bills too. I do managed to hold on to enought to pay for my O scale model railway interests though!
