I'm surprised that nobody opened this thread either! Anywho, I've opened this thread for those who wish to talk about this wonderful game series.

I've still got a fully functional Sega Megadrive with the Sonic 2 and S&K cartridges in them, it's a shame my STH cartridge gave up on me years ago...

I stopped following Sonic after Sonic Heroes, when I learned Robotnik/Eggman was going to be thin in Sonic 06. From what I hear from really dedicated fans, it's been crap since they replaced the original voice actors.

Naw, Eggman is still fat, but I agree with you about the voices, Sonic used to sound better, now it sound's like he's sick. Sonic Riders got me excited about Jet the hawk, I was dissapointed that he sounds like a stucked-up version of Sonic! So much potential wasted...

From what I hear from really dedicated fans, it's been crap since they replaced the original voice actors. Actually, what you might find is that that's the reason they DO think it's crap...which is an extremely stupid reason if you ask me, because... 1: Most of them ARE pretty good. 2: Voice Acting simply does not make a game. It's the gameplay that does. Certainly not the graphics either, which is where Sonic 2006 fell. I don't own a lot in the way of Sonic games, but the ones I do have are very good. Sonic Heroes - Very fun game, shame my PS2 and TV are on the brink. Sonic Rush - Another fun game, with a great ending. Sonic Rush Adventure - Pretty good, but not as good as Rush. Sonic Chronicles - VERY fun to play, although it is very short. And I suppose if you want to get technical... Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games - The DS version, and good fun.

I never saw this topic. Why're there two Sonic the Hedgehog topics? Guess one must be for the 'anything TV related' and this would be for the any of the games. A new trailer for Unleashed has risen from the internet: xboxmovies.teamxbox.com/xbox-360-hires/8102/Adabat-Level-Reveal-HD/If you don't like watching it in High Def, there's a youtube version somewhere. Can't be bothered to look. I don't like the fact that Sonic's mouth is always at the left side of his face no matter which way you look at him.

I never liked video games that much, bad for your eyes. But I do play the Sonic The Hedgehog game for iPod's. Fun and cheap too only 5 bucks.

Sonic Adventure for me. Motivated me to find as many Sonic games as possible. I read the comics as well, awesome stuff. Sonic Adventure really did it for me thought. Awesome story, great character collection, and Chaos was my new hero.
Sonic Adventure 2 blew me out of the water as well. However, to me the Sonic series is now just being milked for profit. I mean don't get me wrong, I love the Blue Hedgehog as much as the next guy but titles like "Black Knight" and "Secret Rings" just threw me off. Sonic Unleashed I am looking forward too however...

Right, having recently gotten back into Sonic, I must say that he is pretty much dead at this point. It's considered good if a new Sonic game gets a 6/10 which was around what Unleashed got. I'm going to play nitpicker and point out five things that could improve the series.
#5: Stop trying to make an epic story. A lot of times the story can make or break the game, and in this case, it breaks it. Sonic 06 was so full of plot holes, I'm surprised the cast didn't fall into them. Plus, trying to remake Arthurian legends and the like with Sonic characters just seems like a bad idea. Keeping it simple makes it much less confusing. What's wrong with the old storyline of Robotnik trying to take over the world? That brings me nicely to my next point...
#4: Make Robotnik a threatening villain again. Dr. Robotnik is Sonic's arch-nemesis, but has been reduced to be a pantomime villain, just like Diesel. What was once a threat to the world is now a bumbling scientist who always gets wrapped up in something he can't handle. It worked okay in Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, but then just got repetitive. What they need to do is make a game where the final boss is Robotnik posing a genuine threat to Sonic.
#3: Less gimmicks. Trivia question. What do Shadow the Hedgehog, Unleashed and Black Knight have in common? They both are saddled with strange gimmicks, like the werewolf thing (Which is totally ripped off of Zelda) and the swordfighting system (Which also seems suspiciously Zelda-esque) and the guns which was the stupidest move I've ever seen. The one thing Sonic 06 got right was there was no gimmicks to detract from the gameplay. Sonic who use to be all about rushing through levels as fast as possible, is now stuck beating up anything that gets in his way, slowing down the speed aspect that's made the Sonic series so popular.
#2: Change the voice cast. me and so many others have expressed this frustration before. Some of the new voices are flat-out horrible. Tails sounds like a girl, Knuckles sounds like he should be dueling with cards, Jet sounds like Micky Mouse after a kick in the family jewels, Rouge sounds like a bored 50 year old, and Vector sounds like a mix between Pee-Wee Herman and Kermit the Frog. I suppose they adopted all the anime voice actors to keep up continuity, but was that really necessary? The only decent new voice is Robotnik's.
#1: Better use of existing characters. So many useless new characters have been introduced. Silver? Never seeing him again. Marine? Never seeing her again. Shadow? With his origin revealed, what's the point of keeping him around besides the emo factor? Omega? Most likely not returning. Babylon Riders? Only good for the Riders series. The Sonic series had some great one-shot characters who never got a chance to shine, like Mighty, Bean, Bark and Fang. All of them have potential, but it was never used. Instead, just like Thomas, we get a dozen new characters who appear for a game, serve their purpose, and are never seen again. Exceptions being Rouge and Blaze, who are at least good characters. It's just like the way HIT handles new characters, and I don't think it's that good.
Well, there's my two cents/pence on the matter. I really needed that out of my system.

OK, I can combat most of your claims simply by saying "Stop playing Sonic 06 and play Unleashed". To go into depth...
5. In Unleashed, that is EXACTLY what Eggman was doing. In Chronicles, he actually succeeded. Thereby, it's a null factor.
4. See point 5, especially the part about Chronicles.
3. Once again, PLAY Unleashed. Or even better, try playing one of the Rush or Rivals games. The Werehog thing is not only completely different from Zelda, but it's also just one part of it. OK, a very over-used part, but that's only because the speed-stages go by so quickly.
2. Once more, I say "Play Unleashed"...and don't frank this so high, it's just stupid. I really, REALLY hate trying to get it through people's heads that "Voice Actors do NOT make a game, so stop making such a big deal about it". Tails does not sound like a girl. Knuckles does not sound like he should be dueling with cards, he sounds like he should be dueling full stop. Stop playing Sonic Riders and Sonic 2006, and play some OTHER game with them in it before you make a judgement on Rouge and Jet. And as for Vector, have you even tried to play Sonic Rivals 2, or Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games? He sounds nothing like that. And do you know why? Because they changed his voice actor. Seriously, stop living in the past.
1. Oh, god....that is SUCH a hypocritic answer, and is just so WRONG! First of all, what are you on about with Silver? We HAVE seen him again, NUMEROUS times, including The Black Knight, so research your facts. Shadow is popular, which is why he comes back. Have you played Chronicles? Omega appears there. Bark and Bean? What personality to they have? None. Why you're insistant on dumping characters with fleshed out personalities and a backstory for characters that don't is beyond me completely. Mighty, Bark, Bean and Fang serve their purpose and are never seen again. Yet Silver, Shadow, Omega etc, who you claim are not seen again, are, several times.
I'm sorry, but NONE of your arguments work. The fact that you keep refering to Eggman as "Robotnik" suggests you're "one of those people". You need to stop playing Sonic 2006 and start playing some of the OTHER games before you come up with an argument. At least just TRY to play Unleashed, THEN rethink it.

First of all, I call Eggman "Robotnik" because that's what I remember growing up with him as. Secondly, in Unleashed, Robotnik isn't the final boss. It's Dark Gaia, which is one of the examples I would have cited. What I'm looking for is something like the Sonic Advance games, where he is the main villain, but there's still a Super Sonic level to complete. Thirdly, I'm not saying the new voice actors are BAD, I'm just saying they're not as good as the old ones. Would you rather here Alec Baldwin or Ringo Starr narrate Thomas? It's just a personal preference, and I did say I was nitpicking. Having listened to Vector, I say he's improved though. Knuckles just sounds too similar to Yami Yugi for my tastes though, seeing as he's my favorite character. On the character subject, Bean and Mighty have plenty of potential. Mighty's character was fleshed out in Knuckles' Chaotix, and Bean's personality is pretty easy to determine. He likes blowing stuff up. You'll notice I didn't use Ray, Metal Knuckles or Tails Doll as an example, because they truly don't have a personality to use. I'll admit, I wasn't sure if Silver was in Black Knight, but now that he is, it's good their using him more. I never said they aren't using Shadow. I said that with his past revealed as everyone was dying to know, they could have written him out or something. I just don't see his point besides appealing to the fangirls/boys. Lastly, keep in mind I did say I was nitpicking! This is just my opinion, it doesn't have to be yours. I could nitpick the Mario series too, much as I love that series too. Don't get the impression I don't like Sonic. I personally think Unleashed was a step in the right direction, and I was ignorant on the newer stuff, seeing as how I haven't really played it. I just wanted to rant a bit. Oh, and the last thing I want to say... Bring back Super Knuckles and Super Tails!

OK, it's just that I hear this all the time from so-called fans who bash the games, so I didn't wish to have to go through that again.
I understand the whole thing about Eggman, but Unleashed, unlike other games, didn't give some "way out". It made it seem like he would be the final boss, and there was certainly no teaming up with Sonic. Also, may I advise "Sonic Rush". Both their games have him as the final boss, in Super form.
The voice acting thing is really just personal voice. For the most part, I'm indifferent (Sonic, for example). Some characters, I like the old ones more (Rouge still doesn't take my taste). Some, I like the new ones more (frankly, I can't stand the old voices of both Tails and Knuckles). Matter of opinion, I guess.
Also, you may be interested to know that there is a poll on Sonic's official facebook (it is official, trust me) on the "retro" characters, and which one people would like to see again. As I understand, Mighty is winning.

Oh really? I have to take a look at that. We can agree to disagree on some things I guess, but it's nice to have a fellow fan. Trust me, I'm a fan, I just don't like the direction it's been going in. Hopefully Black Knight will change that. I'm just a hopeless Mario & Sonic nostalgic.

I've recently got back into the franchise about a month ago when i first played Sonic Unleashed and boy, was it amazing. After that, i've bought Sonic Mega Collection Plus for my PS2 and it was great fun playing the older games, my fav one is Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Hyper Sonic just kicks ass when activated! Another 2 games were bought afterwards... they were Sonic and the Secret Rings and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) I might get Sonic and the Black Knight for my 18th birthday so i'm looking forward to it

I used to like the series, but because those stupid internet fanboys who made those Sonic look nasty with adult language,I don't like the series that much anymore.I had the "Sonic Mega Collection" on the Gamecube a couple weeks after I got the system. It good because the games were good.

Personally, I don't think you should let other fans discourage what you like. If that were so, I would've stopped liking both Sonic and Star Fox a LONG time ago.
I am honestly surprised the guy has had so much staying power, despite lackluster title after lackluster title. I can rightfully say that Sonic has perhaps one of the largest, most passionate videogame fanbases in the world. It's not always a good thing, but, well, there's stupid people in every fandom.
Half the time, the adult language is making fun of the series, rather than supporting it, anyway.

I disagree, AoStH owns all other Sonic cartoons. That might be because I don't like the SatAM characters, but AoStH has a happier mood like the earlier Sonic games.

Fair nuff, some prefer the episodic "wackiness" of AoSTH. To me, it grated after a while. I prefered the moody drama of SatAM...partially why I liked it. That and to reflect a games-based complaint, Robotnik's villainy. In Ao, he's a blumbling clown. :/ In SatAM, he's downright malevolent. A traitor, a murderer, a despot...and Snivelly's even worse somedays.
That was another point. Sidekicks. Scratch and Grounder were, well....retarded. Snivelly actually had PURPOSE. And even made a play for the throne after Robotnik was put out of action...
and SatAM didn't keep things linear. You might recall that the Freedom Fighters had someone else to contend with -S2's cliffhanger ending. "Lord Ruby Eye", as I called him. He was going to be the nemesis of the mythical S3...
