This is a real pain. I mean, WHY? Even Capcom didn't do something this off the wall stupid with MM9! (And I have nothing against Capcom, I'm just a major Megaman fan, and I REALLY HATE IT when the company that makes a port/crossover of my two favorite game series of ALL TIME doesn't release it in the U.S.A.) SEGA, you fail. AGAIN.
The only way I'm getting this game is if the reviews are superb, otherwise, the chance this game has of getting bought by me are equal to a snowball's chance in hell...
Ok, rant over.

How about the awful looking running animation? The fact the level looks like Sonic Advance 1's first level? GREEN EYES, LONG SPIKE Sonic? Small potatoes. Who cares about the color of his pupils or his design? Those complaints are driving away a lot of people from the fandom..."I love sonic but hate his fans" is something a lot of people have been complaining about on DeviantART. (not me personally...There's some level-headed fans, I feel,) @ others I'm sure that, eventually, you'll be able to buy the whole package for the price of one normal game. They did this with SBCG4AP. This'll allow them to get a little feedback as they go, I think. I'd hope each episode doesn't cost as much as, say Megaman 9/10, rather, if you buy each as it comes out, you pay a little more than if you wait for all four, then buy the pack...Either way, It should come out to be roughly the same price, altogether, as it would be if it came out all at once. Unless Sega really DOES price each "episode" as much as a comparative full game. Which WOULD be an epic fail...unless the "4" in Sonic 4 amounts to 4 Genesis-sized games. You've gotta remember that Sonic games only had eight levels, two to three acts within each. If you did it well, you could go from starting to beating Robotnik in a day. That shouldn't be too hard to replicate in each of the four games.

Rumor has it that Sonic 4 will feature Super Sonic playable in the normal stages. If it's true then it means that collecting all seven chaos emeralds will finally unlock something cool.
Meanwhile, I'm excited about Sonic Classic collection coming out for DS this upcoming Friday. Being able to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles on the portable = absolute bliss.

So they're re-releasing the Classic Sonic collection on DS, eh? That's good to hear.
Mind you, give me the old Mega Drive any day. I still have my old one, and still play it if the laptop and/or the internet are both down for whatever reason. Favourite games are Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. The last two games are at their best in their combined form 'Sonic 3 and Knuckles'. Great stuff.

Is Chaotix on the DC version (you know Knuckles own game Vector and Charmy are in it) that was the only one left out of the PS version.

I'm tempted to get Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. The gameplay looks really crisp and solid, and the reviews it has been getting so far are great.

Picked up my copy of Classic Collection this morning. The cheat codes from Sonic 2 are gone, but I guess I can't complain, since there's a save feature anyway. Sonic 3's own save feature was left in, which is great. My only real nit pick is that you have to use the touch screen to pause the game instead of just pressing start. Though one thing I do like, is how the main menu features the ''Mission'' theme music from Sonic Jam. Ahhh Memories of the Saturn...

Seems pretty awesome. I like the ripple effect on the waterfall, the shield looks good too. Sonic seems to be producing sparks on the second screen shot (which seems odd as he also producing dust clouds). My only gripe here is the homing attack target on the third screen shot. The music on the site is quite good too but it seems to be lacking on a memorable chorus.

It certainly looks impressive. Do I see his feet spinning as a wheel? Looks like his maximum running speed animation. I can't wait to see it in action!

This does look quite promising and may be the best Sonic game out in over a decade, but I'm not holding my breath.
Despite the fact that everything (except the Homing Attack) looks to be quite good, and seeing how the episodes are 4 levels for only 200 points my biggest fear hasn't been revealed yet, and won't until the game is out.
Gameplay. Gameplay, gameplay, gameplay. The Sonic series' gameplay has been declining for years, and while Unleashed has some nice graphics and such, it didn't change the fact that the gameplay was very unpolished.
Gameplay is the most important aspect of any game. Hell, most of my favorite games are older than or around 20 years old, and while they only have 8-bit graphics and sound, they're still a blast to play because the gameplay is good. Just don't mes this one up SEGA...

Okay, a friend of mine bet me that the Thomas Youtube Community (which I frequently moan about for their copyright infringements and general ARRGH posts) was not as bad as the Sonic community. I bet him he was wrong...and we made a wager. I'd spend two weeks on a sonic forum and find out more about Sonic 4. After one week I have given up the bet and paid upfront. Chaps, I will NEVER moan so vehemently about the Thomas Youtube community anymore. The sonic fandom is absolutely insane. For example, right now the general arguments, insults and huge amount of disrespect to Sega with regards Sonic the Hedgehog 4, found here: Sega ForumsIs unbelievable. Petitions to get it canceled comparisons to other games and saying it's "crap" without playing it threats on developers and their families...! I've seen it all over there. The whole community was begging for a 2D sonic game for 16 years - hell, I was waiting for one for 16 years too. Now they finally get one and the level of criticism aimed at this game - which no one aside from a few scrotums on Partnernet 360 has played, is foul, abusive and absolutely horrendous. So I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the Thomas Fandom in general for not being anywhere near this - how can I put this nicely? Deranged, dipped in lunacy with a massive dose of obsession to the extremes and dependence on a brand whose poor owners and developers can't keep up. That being the case, I'd like to apologise to HiT - I'll never be happy with modern thomas as it is, but there's absolutely no way that HiT would deserve the same level of abuse that Sega & Sonic Team seem to get, period. At what point did my favourite blue hedgehog suddenly become a beacon for the crazies???

He became a beacon for the crazies five years ago at least. How do I know this? I was in close-quarters contact with a rabid fangirl of this series from then on. -shudder- She brought fanart to school that scarred and disturbed me to the point- Um. Let me just say that I hope I never see Knuckles ever again, and I don't mean the model god one.

I took a brief look on that forum and already I think I should put in a request for a new pair of eyes!
Sonic is one of those things, very much like Twilight, that has been ruined for me in advance. Now I know I shouldn't judge before I play it (very much like these...people, seem to be doing), and who knows I might even enjoy it, but after seeing the amount of twisted fan-art and head-explodey conversations from Sonic fans I don't think any force on earth could make me get really into it. I'd be scared to do so anyway.
And Sega as a company are nowhere near as bad as HIT. I'm currently playing as PS2 game entitled Valkyria Chronicles, which is essentially fantasy-remake of World War Two. Now, this game had some faults which I won't go into too much detail to explain now, but otherwise it's a brilliant game. Now, Sega are releasing a sequel...for the PSP. As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the biggest mistakes a gaming company could make.
So in other words, I'd say that the Thomas Youtube community, despite its many, many faults, is some way from becoming as detestable as that of Sonic the Hedgehog, although from what I and many others have seen, it seemed to be leaning that way. Which I suppose in some form makes me proud to be part of the more civilised fan-forums around. So here's a big thank-you to SIF, for helping me to retain my sanity in the face of so much madness.
All the Best, Tayhan.

Don't let that stop you from trying the games Tayhan. Sonic fans are the worst fans of any game series I've ever seen, but the games are not at all related to what the fans say and do. My advice though is to try to play Sonic's earlier games. That is to say, the ones from 91-95.
If you like Platforming games, they're a blast to play. They have a decent challenge level, excellent music, fun but simple gameplay, and some very memorable boss battles.
As for what you went through Simon, it's been like that for a while. People are fed up with not having a truly enjoyable Sonic game, and that's somehow mutated some "fans" into unpleasable idiots. They moan and groan about everything, right down to the last microscopic detail, such as Sonic's eye color, his design, Robotnik/Eggman's name and so on.
What you have to remember is that many Sonic fans have distanced themselves from that crowd and don't bother mingling with other fans online. The majority of Sonic fans are senseable people who know not complain about such mundane things.
As for Coal Engine's anecdote....Yeah, that happens a lot in almost any fandom. Don't just pin this on the Sonic fandom, as I can remember what happened when a female Robot Master was announced for Megaman 9.

...Remind me to never go on a forum related to Sonic ever again... Well Coal Engine given how popular Sonic is, you should have a feeling that "Rabid Sonic fan" and "Artwork" should be avoided 50% of the time. You have my sympathies. I for one think Sega might surprise us this time, why else release the original games on the DS?
