Well... apart from the most obvious regarding the Rangers themselves (which Ryan has quite clearly pointed out, and which I agree on completely. As the first episode felt more like the third, fourth or fifth episode).
But I think this has got some potential hopefully, the theme is really good (I felt it had a real dose of Heavy Metal with the Heavy Guitar sounds heard). And I'll admit, I've already taking some likings to the Yellow Ranger (man she looks really sweet and lovely, my kind of Girl).
I just also noticed something when watching the episode in full... was it me, or is Bulk and Spike's facilities Bulk and Skull's old garage from Zeo? The background where Bulk stood for most of his scene was very much to the scenery in Zeo.

Saw episode 1 myself last night. Was quite pleased with it. Nice to see a green ranger episode as episode 1 for a change instead of being devoted entirely around the red ranger.
Also, I noticed this feels more like "episode 4 or 5" as well, but I can expect we'll get a few explination episodes coming further along. That line "You'll be suprised how well I work out, after a pizza" was never used, was it?
They did it in RPM with the episodes Ranger Yellow/Red/Blue explaining where their ranger skills came from, and they were automatically rangers in their first episode as well.

I've seen this first episode and I am relieved more than anything. In the past, both Saban and Disney have tried to reinvent the whole Super Sentai storyline to make Power Rangers. and nine times out of ten it hasn't worked. The main one that springs to mind with me is with Operation Overdrive. With RPM and Dino Thunder it really seemed to work, although for me RPM did go too far and really needed a series to chart the decline of humanity although it was covered in the later episodes it still didn't feel right to back track like they did. With Power Rangers Samurai, they have done the simple thing, which was to basically translate Shinkenger. I haven't found all of the Super Sentai series watchable, but I watched all of Shinkenger and really enjoyed it. Maybe not as much as Boukenger, but when I got back from my 4 months in Iceland I just wanted to get back into it. I also found it far more watchable as it appears that they used the same locations for filming the piolet at least as they did for Shinkenger. For me Power Rangers has been crying out for this kind of treatment for a long time, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." With typical cutting of episode length from Sentai to PR they have lost some of the storyline, such as calling 5 young people who knew their destiny was to be rangers, but there is plenty of scope to cover that in future episodes. They also got their bit in for selling extra merchandise by giving the Rangers extra armour when they jump into their Zords, but all round its been what Power Rangers has been crying out for since the beginning.

I saw an episode the other day. Can't say the characters stood out much, but I can say my heart stopped both when I heard "Go, go Power Rangers" and when I saw Bulk onscreen.

I found it interesting how the theme is go go power rangers, and the Rita Repulsa music plays upon the boat, bu yet Bulk has new music that is no where near as good as Bulk and Skull's theme.
Also, the reason it feels like we've not seen any set up is because we haven't, the episode around the green ranger is actually episode 3, it's supposed that Nickelodeon have kept back the first two episodes and intend to air them as a movie, why they didn't air them before the main series though is beyond me.
(Episode 4 is a Blue Ranger episode by the looks of things and from what I've seen of it, he really can't act. We're talking saying the lines rather than acting them bad.)

Just found this a few days ago but this is Saban's plans for Power Rangers after buying it back and notice that at the end they talk about how he might be considering a bid for a certain Blue Tank Engine that brought us all here in the first place.

Just watched a few episode of Samurai today. Doesn't seem too bad. Girls are sexy, theme music kicks ass. Anyway, I just got finished watching the latest episode (the one with the phoney wedding) and I swore that Decker's voice sounded familar. I could have sworn that I heard his voiced used for a previous PR villian, so I did a quick google search.
Turns out I had heard the voice actor before, but it definatly wasn't who I was expecing...

Been airing for two weeks now, Keith...
Must admit, I love the 'feel' of Samurai. It feels like the Saban era again, and yet, it feels so fresh and new, as if it's its own entity as well. It's so refreshing and works so damn well.
Really looking forward to seeing how the new series progresses under Saban's hands - it's head and shoulders above Disney's utter rubbish under Bruce Kalish.

I'm watching Power Rangers Samurai, but a part of me really wants to go out and find Shinkenger to see if I prefer that (Shinkenger being the Sentai Samurai is based off.)
The current Sentai series Gokaiger is so much better than Samurai it hurts, I think possibly the worse part of Samurai is the actor playing the sensei, I just don't believe in the character as a person.

With the 20th aniversary of Power Rangers next year (or possibly this year if we're going by the dates of Forever Red/Once a Ranger), how awesome would it be if we get a US equivalent of this epic team up:

Saban actually asked TOEI to have the Legend War refilmed for them (the reason being was to omit the teams that have not been made into Power Rangers series). Unfortunately we won't see the footage for about 3 years because Saban will be adapting Goseiger first. Like Samurai, the adaptation will last for 2 years.
As for why they requested a refilmed Legend War if they were going with Goseiger? Because they wanted to do Gokaiger and skip Goseiger. But TOEI wouldn't allow it.
Which means we're getting a Goseiger adaptation for the 20th anniversary. I don't like the sound of that. Yes, I know people have been saying it would be a good season to adapt because the colours match those of the MMPR, the mentor is a head and the assistant is a robot, but I would still rather have got Gokaiger, which was made as a celebration of the series that had come before it.

Well, that's not technically true, is it? If the Go-onger, Shinkenger & Goseiger adaptions are 1 'season' long, technically the UK's 20th season.

Dunno if anyone else has been watching Power Rangers Super Samurai, but I am honestly impressed by the way that Saban has turned the brand around from a pathetic shadow of itself under Bruce Kalish's Executive Production and Disney's poor management, and got it back as a powerhouse of outstanding entertainment which has been a must-watch for me every weekend for the last ten or so.
They've taken the best elements from both Saban and Disney eras and made it work so well.
RPM was probably one of the best seasons in recent years also, but Samurai and Super Samurai were outstanding returns to form for the show - and I honestly hope they can keep up the momentum with Mega Force next year. Particularly looking forward to the 20th Anniversary team-up!

Wow... it truly doesn't feel possible that my all-time favourite superheroes are 20 years old now. I've got my own little tribute to Power Rangers coming hopefully in the coming months, but I'm still in the writing process of it (plus got a little PR Fan-Fiction in the works too). But what can I say, loved the show as a Kid - still love the show today as a young Adult. I don't care what haters say (they'll all come and go), but Power Rangers for us back in the 90s was our Star Wars. What the Kids of 1977 felt about Star Wars, was pretty much what Power Rangers was that I felt when I look back on it. Happy 20th Anniversary Power Rangers, may the Power protect us for the next 20 years to come (and I can't wait for the Legendary Team-Up coming soon in Super Megaforce - or Megaforce Season 2 rather as the whole 'Super' thing sounds too much like 'Special Special').
