I think if I were to devise a Doctor, he would be something like a parent figure. He sees humans as children, beings who are on their way but still have much to learn- they should be encouraged and chastised as appropriate. He is always a champion of the little guy, human or otherwise, and will go to any lengths to see justice done. He is not, however, a vengeful character- he is a peaceful being. He is emotional, but his emotions never rule him. He is charming and intelligent, at home in any situation and quite unreadable. He is Machiavellian in his thought processe, and his strategy can never be second-guessed.

What is slightly annoying now is how Doctor Who is becoming a pop icon and merchandised. I just read news of a reality show featuring kids wanting to be a companion, and then there's Torchwood and now rumours of another Sarah Jane Smith and K9 spinoff? It's becoming a media beast.

They're riding the mania. Doctor Who's return was such a huge event that they're making all the money they can out of it. I think they might end up having a huge shock, because like any TV event the novelty will wear off.
Re Sarah Jane Smith and K9 spinoff: Oh good God no.

FlyingScotsman, I kinda agree with you. Realistically, and I don't like saying this, it's only a matter of time before the new series goes to the dogs again, and given the Doctor doesn't have many regenerations left I'd say we only have a few years (Time Lords can only regenerate 12 times i.e. 13 lives). Unless they ignore the regeneration rule.
Anyway, I have mixed feelings about the return of "K9 and Company" (that was the spinoff Sarah Jane and K9 were in). I heard that it was a flop last time, and I don't think it'll work this time. Furthermore, if Torchwood is meant to be canon, what are younger viewers like me supposed to do given the fact that it's an adult series. Unless it has no impact on the show whatsoever (although I doubt Captain Jack is going to be found on the Gamestation by The Doctor and Rose).

I think the rumours bout the Sarah-K9 thing might have something to do with them returning in the series (just for one ep tho.).

Let's hope so. Of course, one argument against the K9 and Company rumour would be that when they tried it the first time, the characters were still very familiar. Whereas if they tried it today, people would only really know them from the new episode.

Can't say I'm much of a Who fan, but I heard a rumour today that Peter Kay plays a bad guy in the new series.

I hear that ITV are planning a rival series to Dr Who. The scenario is that there are loads of black holes which lead to other times and worlds (and presumably neither crush nor fatally irradiate the Earth). These worlds feature lots of dinosaurs, huge spiders etc. The main characters are a team who investigate these worlds, led by a scientist whose wife disappeared into one of these black holes many years ago, and whom he now seeks out.

Black holes? I don't really think this can seriously challenge the Doctor, though nothing has been made yet and this is the first Ive heard about it...

Yeah, I think they might be thinking of that Comic Relief Dr Who special that crossed over with Eastenders.

I read in this newspaper which said that the Tenth Doctor would be landing in Albert Square, home to the Old Vic. Some sources on the net said so, too!

Mnyes and no.
Apparently it's not going to be as er... lame... as Dimensions in Time was, but it's going to be very strange. And I like strange.
