Good work! Now, who's going to be the first to produce a Thomas/Ernie crossover?

Well, after seeing a weeks' worth of Underground Ernie, I'll admit that it's definatly a Bob the Builder-type series, but does have a tiny charm of Thomas in one or two parts, particually in the engines themselves. (My faves are now Hammersmith, City and Bakerloo. I wonder why they haven't done a Central yet? ) The episodes are written charmingly that can keeps kids and their parents intrested and the animation is rather good, also. I caught today's episode written by Jan Page: PULLING TOGETHER, and it was wonderful seeing sibling rivalry between twins...I wonder which other Train Series had a storyline like that? BTW, salty. The sprites are great, but Hammersmith and City don't have an extra carriage between then. Just each other. But good work, all the same

Today's episode was 'Enrie's Big Trip''.
I liked the plot of the episode but the rumours of ernie leaving by the trains was similar to 'Thomas And The New Engine' but I did like the arrival of Paris, he seemed funny, just like Bakerloo.

I didn't really like Paris. He's a bit too...fussy. But I liked it when Paris got stopped by Mr. Rails! LOL!!
"Mr Rails! Stopw waving that silly red flag! I am due at International underground in 33 seconds!"
"Sorry, Paris! This is for Ernie's own good!"

Having now seen a few eps....it's rather quite good for a domestic kids shows. See FlyingScotsman's big article. I rather liked the fact they used Gary Lineker (C'MON YOU TRAAAAAINS!) And like so many others have said, it's not a Thomas clone. Thomas is 90% trains, 10% people. UE is more like a 60-40 /50-50 share. Rather bally good as Bakerloo would say.

What was today's episode? I missed it because I didn't realize the time.
My favourites are Hammersmith & City and also Bakerloo.

Has anyone else noticed the blooper in the opening titles? Look at the bit where the trains are all lined up. Hammersmith and City appear twice!
Oh, and a slightly freaky coincidence. The seaside station at the end of the line is called Seashell Bay. In the film Dark City, there was a place called Seashell Bay, only the thing about it was that nobody could get there. There's a whole sequence where the hero tries to get an underground train there, but can't find one. Indeed, this is a significant point in the plot, because it shows the character that something weird is going on.
Given that the whole plot of today's episode involved the trains trying to make sure that a guy doesn't get to Seashell Bay, is anyone else thinking, "Hmm"?

Right now after reading that, I'm thinking LOL! But FS does make a good point - perhaps there's more to Underground Ernie than we thought. Yesterday's episode, MILLIE'S DREAM DAY, is so far my fave episode. Mainly because it's written by Ross Hastings, who characterised the characters in a hilarious situation. From Mr Rails' "I'm in Control!!" Manic Moment to Bakerloo getting his wits scared out of the "Haunted" Signal light! ;D And for those who are getting fond of this series already, it appears that Bachmann are going to be merchandising it soon! I think Bachmann trains do work on Hornby (it was mentioned elsewhere). Yay! Bachman's making Underground Ernie trains! I did come across a model of a real life Metropolitan line train a few years ago BTW. I think it was meant to be run on Hornby/Bachmann rail tracks. I'd just like to know who the maker was (it didn't come in packaging). I would've bought it, but it ocst £300 and now the shops' gone

Holy heck! If they're up to the standard of Bachmann's Thomas characters, we're in for a treat. I'm guessing these will be to HO/OO scale, which means that they will run on Hornby track. Bachmann also makes O gauge and N gauge, but the former is probably too expensive while the latter is a little small.
Harrow Model Shop used to make a range of Underground models, but the range has since been taken over bt Radley Models. Corgi make 1938 stock, and I'm pretty sure there have been other manufacturers. Unfortunately, there is nothing ready-to-run.

Today's UE was very Thomas-esque. The story was that Jubilee was teasing Victoria for being old. Victoria overhears Ernie and Mr Rails talking about Ernie's mum's vaccuum cleaner being "unfixable" and "ready for the scrap heap", and thinks they're talking about her. But when Jubilee breaks down after going too fast- no, you can guess the rest of the story. It even featured the phrase "out of puff" - cough Thomascough. There was a rather lamentable lack of research. Victoria was said to have "stuffed up valves". Electric trains don't have valves, and the phrase "stuffed up" does suggest that the writer's only research was a few episodes of Thomas. Although it did feature Victoria running with only one carriage in one scene, which was interesting. Well, I thought it was. By the way, this could be of interest to fans: www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/proginfo/tv/wk23/feature_undergroundernie.shtml

It was a good episode though. I've been thinking of a parody where The Fat Controller gets his Walkers Crisps stolen. You can all guess who stole them. Maybe.

Today's episode was pretty good. "It's not lying, dear. It's advertising."
Although I found Miss Relic slightly disturbing. She looked and sounded almost exactly like someone I used to go out with for a brief period. Creepy.

I really hope it wasn't the same person.
Anyway, Ernie appears to be suffering from what I have called the "Nice Thomas" virus - today's episode was about Circle taking children to the seaside. Luckily, the children were little brats and Circle got a headache, so there's hope yet.
