My friend Em once got thrown off a bus for wearing, what I think was a cradle of filth shirt that says some-thing about Jesus, I'm not saying what it said cos I'd probably get banned. But like its stupid cos she's allowed to wear whatever she likes really, and it was late at night so you wouldnt find any old people or kids running about to offend?

I'd say these incidents do have something to do with the PC debate, because it stems from the same "let's not offend anyone" idea. But the gang colours thing is going a bit far. Anything can be offensive to someone, we can't just spend our lives walking on eggshells.
Mind you, several of my friends have taken the PC thing in the opposite direction because they feel patronised. For instance, there's one who's wheelchair-bound whose catchphrase is, "Watch out! Crip coming!" And another who's gay and uses all the most homophobic terms he can think of. In fact, another friend of mine who researches languages reckons that English as a whole is going in the opposite direction, with minority groups claiming once-offensive terms for their own. Which I think is a far more healthy way of going about things than by just pretending bigotry doesn't exist.

I don't want this thread to be flooded with brain-dead n00b attacks against PC from morons who have no idea what it's all about... ... So I won't say my thoughts!

In one of my old schools, someone was suspended for wearing a Rolling Stones t shirt. Also, I just thought of something Thomas related. Don't you think its odd that no spanish people were offended by the title Spic and Span? Especially in S8.

Probably because "Span" is an English word, used in context with "Spic" to make the meaning of "clean".

That is just plain stupidity.
Anyone hear about the case a couple years ago in one of the Carolinas where a girl sued the school district for suspending her because she wore clothes with Confederate (think Civil War) emblems; apparently she was honoring her heritage.

Re the whole blackboard thing, I've always thought of them as more greenish then black. But I don't care if they kick up a stink about it, they can rename it a greenboard, darkboard, board, etc. But extreme cases do made me angry.

(please don't attack for me being political correct on this one) I don't blame them. The side that used this flag during the Civil War, believed in slavery, and slavery=evil.

And that's a thorny issue, too. People's heritage often involves some very unsavoury aspects. There are a lot of people in Britain who are ashamed of their heritage because of the whole Empire thing.

After one day of being used with chalk they turn grey and get that weird smudge on them, same with whiteboards.

Political Correctness, in my eyes, is both good, bad and sometimes goes too far. Political Correctness is defined as something that stops people using words that might offend others. Brilliant, fantastic idea, man who thought of it was a legend etc. Away go words such as retards, spaz, I should totally be banned, because I am an asshole. etc. Everyone happy. Seeing that people have found this a simple solution of making people happy, so they continue doing it. Fine not a proble,. but not the baisics are now gone, we have to get nitpicky. Now, political correctness has gone from 'brilliant idea' to 'whoever thought of that political correctness maralky must have been a right dipstick'. Now we get things such as 'Baa-Baa Black Sheep' getting the finger pointed at. Now, what I want to know is. Who is offended at that? Why is it even offensive? Is it because it calls a sheep happening wool to kids 'black' (which is probably cos' the sheep is black, and there are such things as black sheep, see?> www.sheep101.info/Images/blkKewe.jpg). The younger generation aren't affected by it, know why? Because millions of kids have been told the nursery rhyme before and we haven't! I haven't seen a little kid go up to a black person and ask if he has any wool, and I'm pretty sure dang no-one else has either. It also appears that if one or three people offended by a particular something, it appears the whole dang world is too. Ask the people! We won't bit! (Bar the cannabils...they might). Anyhoo, before I stop typing this little rant. I just want to note something which backs up my point about the whole who's technically offended. For years and years (since the beggining of the twentieth century for a start) the New Zealand rugby team, the best (hands up) rugby team in the world, have had the nick-name 'The All Blacks' for their all black coloured kit. For years they've been called it. Wether it by the locals ('Aye, heard Wales are playin' the All Blacks this Saturday'), the national news or even by the players themselves. Point of the matter is, New Zealand Rugby Team is known all over the world as the 'All Blacks'. Now, the players of the team are from both racial skin colours, but so far no-one has complained about it. Think about it. Now, for a flash flim on the topic: www.flowgo.com/index.cfm?action=view&id=12810Isn't Flash wonderful?

I was going to say this earlier in response to someone saying that Daphne is a "damsel in distress" in Scooby-Doo: Hence scapegoats. You know what's funny about the black sheep thing, the PC people don't seem to have realised the word rainbow might offend gays ;D

Actually just thought, its about if people start using them as insults. The rainbow flag is a gay pride flag, and some homophobic yobs probably started saying 'urr rainbow boy' or some-thing (lol im terrible at insults) to try and offend some-one.

uber camp fake boy? What's that? I was always under the impression that "camp" was just a slang term for "gay" - which I suppose would make it a slang term for another slang term.

I remember back in high-school, there was this black girl who was a junior, and she wanted to be on the football team. She was as buff as a male player, and was as rowdy as they came, some even said she was better the the team's star player, interestingly the quarterback XD She wanted to be on the team, but the school denied her a spot because football is a guy's game to play, and a girl really doesn't belong out there on the field, no matter how good she is. Guys might think 'ooooh, I get to hit a girl!', but really, by nature, the majority wouldn't want to. That creates an unfair setup...a girl can't physically compete, guys are stronger, she'd get clobbered perhaps worse then the guys ^^' Well, the girl's family sued the school for racism, and sexism (a lot of the team's players were white, incidentally). Well, the sad thing was, the family won the suit...weird, huh? ~Elizabeth
