OK, something that grinds my gears...
When people just parrot other statements instead of having their own things to say on something. (For those who didn't see it, it came up in the KOTR thread that people have picked on things like brakevans or Rule 55...except if it wasn't for someone else starting it, they wouldn't be aware of it at all. This was inspired by that and I agree with it, but I don't want to derail that thread.)
A lot of times I hear things like "the book was better [than the film version]" or "modern (cartoons/movies/games) suck." I'm fine with that if you've given it a chance and that's legitimately what you think, but sometimes it just feels like there's no actual reason for it but to criticize whatever is new. When I hear about something, I want to see it for myself and make my own judgement on it.
Sometimes as well, it comes off as people trying to sound smarter than they actually are - they want to show off the fact that they know a particular detail (such as Rule 55) like it validates them or something. My main frustration in that area is Wikipedia - sometimes you read an article or trivia about something and the writer has clearly just cribbed the facts from the Wiki page, without adding opinions or anything that shows they actually know what they're talking about.
For an example of that last one: way back when I edited the Salty's Lighthouse wiki page, someone on the TV.com forums was replying to someone else about the changes made from TUGS. Their entire post was "Here's what I know as facts" followed by the entire section copy-pasted from Wikipedia. That's not what 'you' know, that's what you've copied from somewhere else - that's OK, but if you're going to do that, at least acknowledge that that's where it comes from.

1: Employers not sending you an e-mail reply when you've applied for a job so that you know that the position has been filled and if you have been turned down. 2: School Students on public transport being noisy & swearing like there's no tomorrow. 3: General Time Wasters since there are times where I could be doing something more constructive.

Do you know what really grinds my gears? People who have no idea about a topic you love to death & talk like they know everything about it. And that's what really grinds my gears.

Here's something that grinds my gears...
Whenever I'm about to start a new Thomas project that requires my voice (i.e. a new season of episodes, etc.) I will, without fail, get a cold. It's happened just now. I've completed episode 54, started on episode 49 and hey presto, cold, cough and voice like a badly-tuned radio.
Good thing I'm aiming to start STEY season 5 in September...

Do you know what grinds my gears?
The fact that, whenever my sister does something my mom doesn't like, she will follow her around the rest of the evening saying "sorry, sorry, please don't hate me, sorry, sorry" - I wish I was kidding when I said. It's one thing to feel guilt for something you have done, but given the circumstances, which I will explain below, it is inappropriate and annoying in all cases.
My sister has gotten this idea into her head that she wants a hamster. For two years now, she has been consistently bugging us that she wants it, and even though my mom adamantly opposes it, she eventually told her she could get it, as long as she did not have to see it at all. I don't know if she was using reverse psychology to try to talk my sister out of the idea, or if she eventually caved in order to teach her a lesson, but she got it. We also have a cat, and she was already camping outside my sister's door while she and my dad were setting everything up.
And my sister being the goody goody she is, after my mom said that she will regret her decision in due course, is now bombarding her with apologies and it is driving me up the wall!
And that is what grinds my gears, being the grumpy git that I am!

Do you know what really grinds my gears?
High Speed 2, the projected new High Speed Railway Line from London to Birmingham, and then beyond. I'm sorry, but with a cost of £50,000,000,000, too much disruption in possibly building it, and the fact that we already have a railway line from London to Birmingham and beyond to where HS2 would go (with trains that can do 100-125mph, and potentially more...), I see it now as pointless. I mean, High Speed One was built to serve a more efficient service for Eurostar trains out of, and into London, so that's not pointless. But why not, instead of building a new High Speed Rail Line, just don't build it, and that way, people who want to get to the rest of Europe from any HS2 destination, just use an already existing line, and then, oh I don't know, walk, or get a taxi, bus or tube train to the Eurostar terminal? And then, use all that money HS2 would cost on all the engineering work on the railways? I don't care how many people say we need it. I do not support High Speed 2.
And that's what really grinds my gears.

what really grinds my gears is when my tanks are empty and i go to the water tower and there are loads of bigger engines there and when i finally get a chance to fill my tanks then another bigger engine pushes in front of me, then i get to the platform and the station master tells me off for being late that's what REALLY grinds my gears

Do you know what really grinds my gears? Kid shows nowadays. They used to be good and entertaining when we was growing up but nowadays it seem that the people took something or smoked something before making up these ideas in their heads.
And that's what really grinds my gears.

When my old residential address I supposedly deleted from PayPal decides to freakin' appear again, and gloriously display itself on the confirm payment page, replacing my current address I already had listed. How hard can it be for such info to remain deleted? Honestly.

Johnny morris's railway series narrations. No offence to his many fans, but his sound effects just grate on me. Especially his interpretation of "trickety trock, trickety trock".
And that is what really grinds my gears.

What i'm about to put here is very similar to the first part of better late than never, by Christopher.
Basically workmen are repairing a part of the school, unfortunately this part of the school is like the big station it's just where everyone goes to and from to get to their classes but thanks to some dopey 12 year olds who thought they were being funny that part of the school has to be closed. Since that's like the root of the school where everyone can get to their classes now we have to go all the way around the outside and back in again and this normally means we're late for lesson. The teachers say it's our fault. WHAT?!? But i'm not the only one to be unhappy about this, practically everyone in our school is but do any member of staff actually listen to us, Oh no they'd just be doing their job if they did that.

Here's a pet peeve of mine, and some people may scoff at the thought, point and laugh at me or think that I'm just whining about nothing, but here goes.
-When people abbreviate "Skarloey Railway" to "SKR".
What does the K stand for? I was always under the impression that it was just "Skarloey Railway", which would be shortened to "SR". I suppose you could argue that the K stands for the K in Skarloey, but why is it always capital?
The reason why it annoys me is the fact that I tend to hear it quite a lot, to the point where it's often used as the "offical" abbreviation of the name despite being incorrect. For example, on Si3D's screenshot thread, I often see pictures of, say, Duncan with a caption reading "SKR No. 6", and even worse, I've seen fan made sprites of Skarloey coaching stock with "SKR" written on the carriage sides! Why? What does the K stand for?! AAARRRGGGHHHHHDFHJHFDSL{{}:@@~$£&*($&*(¬£!$£">??:@~€¥

I suppose there has been reference in the Television Series era where the North Western Railway has been called the "Sodor Railway", which would have the initials SR so using SKR to refer to the SKarloey Railway does make sense in that regard.
Just how I think the situation came to light, makes sense if you look at it from a Television Series point of view.

Actually, there was a reference to the NWR as "Sodor Railway" in the Magic Railroad, and alternatively, some of the old bios on the official website referred to the standard gauge railway as "Sodor Railways". The Skarloey Railway was never referred to by name, and the engines themselves were only referred to as "the little engines" in seasons 4-5. Since I didn't know what standard and narrow gauge were when I was a little kid, I just referred to it as "the railway where the little engines work". I thought it was kind of confusing since Thomas, Percy, Toby, and about a handful of other characters were technically "little engines".

I debated posting this in the "Advice Thread" instead of here, but I thought the better of it after I realized that there really isn't anything that can be done about the issue besides riding it out.
Lately, I've been annoyed by a lot of stupid thoughts running around my head. Now, though I value intelligent discourse, the amount of stupid thoughts that run around my head is off the charts. All well and good, until the thoughts start becoming depressing. One of my favorite things to do in my free time is work on my fictional country project - I love it, it's a lot of fun, it is a highly enjoyable activity for me to take part in. But recently, after I complete an aspect of the project of which I'm particularly proud, and therefore satisfied, such as planning out a sector in one of the cities, a variant of the following thought enters my head: "You're just going to end up dying one day, so what's the use?" Following this realization of sorts, I sort of just mope around for a couple of hours before I manage to shake it off and move on with my life. And it's probably not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but it does get irritating. My mom says that the issue should pass in time - here's hoping it ends sooner rather than later.
Thanks for letting me vent. On a much less depressing note, I'm also getting tired of the following phrases and words: YOLO, swag, selfie, "your mom", "your face", and "that's what she said". Good night (or... early morning, depending on where you are).

You know really grinds my gears? How newegg.com which was once one of the best online retailers just sucks these days. They took my money, voided my order for some random error, and I've been waiting for my refund for a week. Its not just that. They used to have the quickest shipping and a great return policy now they suck at both. I should stick to Amazon.

What grinds my gear is in the norwegian translation of TTTE&F they say (translated to english again) small engines for tank engines, and big engines for tender engines and GWR engines. Like in one episode Duck is small, and in another he is big? The same with Edward. Why? And the "Little Western" is translated to "The little railway". And "Escape" was translated to the big escape. It was a pretty bad transition… In addition in "tenders and turntables" it sounds like Gordon is somehow getting smaller?

You know what really grinds my gears? Car commercials on TV. Do they really expect the average person to even have enough money to buy one?
For once, I would like to see a parody ad in which the car is drifting dramatically as the narrator praises its new safety features when suddenly the new car is utterly destroyed by an old fashioned steam locomotive at a railroad crossing. That would really make my day.
And that is what really grinds my gears.

Do you know what really grinds my gears?
People (especially on Forums) who are stuck in caps lock. Imagine walking up to someone and the conversation going...
"Oh hi there" "HELLO THERE!" "Uhm... You ok?" "SURE. WHY WOULDN'T I BE!" "It's just that you are kind of yelling" "I'M NOT IT'S YOU THAT'S MUTTERING!" "... oh... any way i was wondering if you knew where the Library is" "THE LIBRARY?!" "Yes please. A friend of mine popped by today" "THAT WAS REAL NEIGHBORLY OF HER!" "... Yes only she wanted me to return this book" "REALLY? WHAT BOOK IS IT?" "... A book" "OKAY. THE LIBRARY IS RIGHT OVER THERE. BEHIND THAT FAT LADY WITH THE PUSHCHAIR!" "O...ok"
Please, please Please! post on forums like you would talk to someone. (Bearing in mind i said talk not shout)
Another thing that grinds my gears is poor writing.
Ok which of the following sounds better.
"It had been a long hot summer on sodor thomas was just about to steam away from the station when percy arrived "Hi" said percy to his best friend thomas "Hello" said thomas to his bestest friend percy."
"It had been a long hot summer on Sodor. Thomas had been on a shuttle service all day and was enjoying a drink at the junction before the run back to the big station. Percy then shuntered up on the opposite platform. He was waiting for Thomas to clear the section so he could continue to the Ffarquhar platform. "Hurry up Thomas" Percy said cheekily. "This milk doesn't have all day you know." "Maybe" chuckled Thomas "If you didn't go so fast, the milk wouldn't be churned to butter everytime." The signal dropped and Thomas set off, leaving Percy speechless."
When it comes to creative writing (Thomas in particular) it's important to remember to stick to railway realism at all times, and sentences like "Steam away from the station" always just make me switch over to something completely different.

Do you know what grinds my gears? People who call it "Thomas the train". Thomas is a locomotive, people! When he's pulling Annie and Clarabel, that's a train, but Thomas himself is not one! I could spend pages ranting about it, but I won't. Also, why do I need to go to school if everything I can learn there I can learn online? And I hate the fact that in the US, children are only considered half a person! And that's a tiny sampling of what really grinds my gears.
