However, it is still annoying if you are watching a playlist and are laid back and you are into the episode only for an advertisement to come up. That is what really grinds my gears. Another is American politics, I hate that with a passion.

There's been something really grinding my gears as of late, and that is this: When I upload a new video on YouTube, and then I see that I have a comment, or sometimes several comments in my inbox. Intrigued, I go and check my inbox, but they're all for videos like "Pingu and the stolen bagel". It really get on my nerves. Those adverts really grind my gears. They rival Go Compare at being the most annoying and cringe-inducing adverts of all time.

When I still had a YouTube account, I uploaded an episode of Kamen Rider Den-O. About a day later, I found in my inbox that I'd received a number of comments. I was happy. I thought people were commenting on the episode. And then I discovered...they were Spam. I was not happy.

Something I don't like is if a Thomas or TUGS picture goes on the wiki, suddenly it's a deleted scene or a rare picture. I realize there are a few, but the TV story books have pictures everyone's seen a million times! And that's what grinds my gears.

Something that grinds my gears?
Seeing adverts on tv, that do not even match the voices seen on screen. Take for example the Cilit Bang adverts, the lip syncs are so painfully out of time and they don't even match the original actor on the screen! Why get someone to act on screen and then change their voices??? Beats me.
Same goes for the stupid Trust Pink adverts oh don't get me started on the woman and the children in the classroom....oh eck...
Thats what grinds my gears.

That or they're adverts being dubbed from another country.

I agree, I've seen this advert, I can't rememeber what for but its 2 children at a role play scene and that is like that. At one point, you can clearly see the boy saying 'What's that' and the person who voices him says 'what's this'.
don't suppose anyone know what it is? It advertises this yogurt in a strawberry shaped container. I can't remember what it is.
Do you know what really grinds my gears? New Sims 3 Expansion and Stuff Packs.
Me and my sister went to TESCOS for something and My sister found a stuff pack for £25 instead of the normal £10 or even £9. It claims to have more items, which it does, just not £15 more stuff. A stuff pack like that should contain a new town.
Second of all it was Katy Perry's Sweet Treats. I like the singer, I just don't want her in my Sims games. So then my sister buys it (I normally buy them all.) and I said I wasn't going to install it untill Sims 3 Diesel comes out so I don't have a pink loading screen. Then I saw my sister being rough with the disc so I install it before it was too late.
The next one isn't better either. The Sims 3 Diesel Stuff. Another 'fashion based', 'branded' game. My favourite was Design and Hi-Tech Stuff' (High End Loft stuff) because it it techy not fashiony.
Luckily, The next Expansion is 'Supernatural' so that will be good.
and that's what grinds my gears.

While I've never eaten that yoghurt, I preferred the characters used to advertise the brand back when I was a kid (talking fruit, rather than a cow). I can't stand to eat fruit yoghurt, actually.

I can't stand to eat fruit yoghurt, actually. Nowadays I would prefer to see Bertie Blackcurrant again rather than their current mascot, a tomboyish calf. Much Bunch was the only yoghurt I remembered eating where the pots were sold in two different sizes. For some reason I used to compare the larger of the two pots to Gordon's buffers due to the shape.

One thing that really grinds my gears is the use of the word 'prototype' to describe the locomotive class that a fictional locomotive is based on. The correct word is 'basis'. The word 'prototype' would imply a one-off locomotive that has no designated class or "classmates" that was created for reasons such as proof-of-concept, such as the 'Deltic' of the 1950s, which is the prototype for the BR class 55 of the sixties. Calling an engine class such as the Warships a "Prototype" for a fictional locomotive is like calling any old concept car a "basis", even if no mass-produced car has adopted any unique features belonging to it.

A really time specific GMG for right now, but you know what really grinds my gears? PC World.
I got a new laptop from there and they said they would set it up in their tech suite or whatever to make sure it was working properly and had all the programmes on. I got it back on my birthday as it was a gift and set to work using it. But I noticed every time I went on Google there would be an alert saying 'This security certificate has expired'. And I'm thinking 'I've used Google for years and this has never happened.'
I checked the certificate expiry dates and I was inside the dates so it couldn't have possibly expired already. So, I sent it back to PC World and they said that it was normal. And I'm there thinking 'Well, if you'd set it up right, I wouldn't have this problem.'
So I get on with using the computer as it is quicker than my stand alone. I notice that the history date reads Thursday instead of Saturday for the previous day. I look at the date. It reads '07/10/2011'. I facepalmed so hard I think I sustained a bruise.
I change it to the correct date and urksomely check my documents from the last week. They are all saved to dates last October. I faceplamed again.
Since I wanted my new computer to be a fresh start and yet I was starting in the past REALLY grinds my gears. If the people at PC World are so clever, they should have gone 'Wait a minute, the date reads to last year. Maybe we should fix it before something stupid that will later be put on a grinds my gears thread happens.' before even handing it back. I know some of the blame lies with myself for not being that thorough in checking it was set up, but THEY were the ones who set it up before me, ensuring that it would be ready.
I mean, what? What happened? Did they insert the incorrect date just to screw with my head? Did a Time Lord have a dirty hand in this? Why, PC WORLD? WHY?

Here's what grinds my gears.
Have you noticed there's a trend for TV series seasons to be split up these days? Instead of buying a complete season, you'll have to buy 'season x part 1' and 'season x part 2' in order to get a complete season of episodes. Of course, this will cost more than just buying a single boxed set of the whole season.
Let me give you an example. Mythbusters is one of my favourite shows, and I've got seasons 1-6 - $30 for 30 episodes (at least, that's how much it is here in Australia). Season 7 - part 1 (episodes 1-15) $40, and part 2 (episodes 16-29) for another $40. That more than doubles the cost of a complete season. I mean, what's next - charging us each time we view an episode?

Here's one (Thomas related) thing that grinds my gears:
The idea that all current generation kids will grow up without having watched the first seven series of Thomas & Friends.
Now, I was born in 1994, the year Series 4 came out. Series 1 was about ten years old by this point, but I still grew up on that series along with series 2, 3, 4 and 5. There are probably people on here who grew up in the series 5/6 era, who still have fond memories of the earliest seasons of Thomas.
Since DVDs with Series 1-7 episodes, along with "complete series" DVDs for those seasons, are still readily available nowadays, (Plus, Nick Jr. and several On-demand services have the episodes), there's no reason why Kids these days can't watch the older episodes and can only be exposed to episodes made in the past couple of years.
I can imagine a hypothetical SiF in the early 1990's, where everyone would probably be moaning and complaining about Series 3, and people would be saying "Kids these days don't know what they're missing" or something to that effect.
On a similar note, I think we need a "Thomas-related pet peeves" thread.

Do you know what really grinds my gears?
Conspiracy theories, related to fiction. I stumbled upon a site today which claimed that the events of the Lord of the Rings actually happened, and that Middle Earth being fictional is just a cover up by the government.
I don't know if these people are trolls searching for attention, or if they genuinely believe this to be case, but I despair for our society, if this is the direction we are headed in.

Ugh, conspiracies/theories/WMGs... I don't mind some that have some logic to them (i.e. ones that are about tying loose ends in timelines, or about the development of a story/show/game, etc.) but some are just bonkers. Anyone remember the Rugrats theory? The one that says that all the babies are figments of Angelica's imagination who were all dead? That one's just stupid, and to think that it's still being passed around today often being passed off as the creators intentions. Really gets on my nerves.

Yes, theories that try to solve continuity problems with the story and stuff like that, I don't mind, but I pretty much can't stand anyone who tries to pass of fiction as real life, so this particularly peeves me off.
Sorry, but I'm not that good with acronyms... what's a WMG?

WMG = Wild Mass Guess. It's a fan coined term for guessing/theorising what the future of a fictional series (or anything) might hold. Usually ending in a character being a Time Lord, or the entire series being a dream. See more here: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WildMassGuessing

Do you know what else grinds my gears?
Writer's block. I have a whole mess of unfinished Thomas fanfics laying around on my computer and I can't come up with a decent way to finish them for the world. A reccuring theme in the fanfics is Diesel returning to Sodor, permanently, following the events of "Thomas and the Evil Diesel", and another, basically retconning away everything Magic Railroad told us about the characters and trying to develop Splatter and Dodge into likable, meaningful characters, but I never seem to get it quite right. Pretty generic openings to every episode as well - I can't recall how many times I've used the "Sodor is too busy during the summer so a new engine is brought in to help out" concept.
Does anyone have any tips for dealing with writer's block?

1) Leave it aside for a little while, then come back to it. 2) Watch some of the TV episodes, or read the books. 3) Keep a notepad and pen on the bedside table - I find I have ideas for lines and scenes whenever I'm trying to get to sleep. 4) Revisit old ideas - see if there's anything that can be reworked.
