Escape, definitely. Even though they added that bit with Edward and Trevor at the start (not part of the original story), it helped to set the scene for the episode. The music when Douglas meets Oliver is eerie as hell. Finally, it was one of the few Season 3 Awdry episodes not to stray too greatly from the original plot. Rusty to the Rescue completely butchered the story behind the salvation of Stepney.
Right, next pair:
Gordon and the Gremlin vs. Thomas and the Birthday Picnic.

Gordon and the Gremlin, it was more entertaining. The HiT version of Thomas and the Birthday Picnic was quite boring, Chris' S9 Adaptation (although I think it was written by Christopher) of Thomas and the Birthday Picnic was better and more like a Thomas episode compared to HiT's. HiT's version was useless, why would the Fat Controller's Mother be grumpy on her visit and Birthday for that matter. (I know, some people can be quite grumpy on there birthday's)
Anyway, moving on:

That's tough
Thomas has become my least favorite character after seeing him hog the camera from characters who are yet to devlop any actual personality at all. Then I have Edward,my favorite Steam Team engine next to James is introduced,I'd say Edward and Gordon, since this was actually the first story created(well it's a mixture of the first two technically)

Edward, Gordon and Henry... I love a happy ending! How about... Dirty Objects vs Time For Trouble DaisyFan x

Dirty Objects all the way - although Time for Trouble was good (once you look past the slightly sugarcoated ending), there was plenty more action with the Season 1 episode, along with a beautiful rendition of the Runaway Theme, and finally a smashing crash.

Hmm... I like "Put Upon Percy" over "A Surprise for Percy" because it has that dramatic feel to it. The music played when Percy is buried in the avalanche really adds to the excitement.

Thomas and the Trucks, definately. Plenty of great music, right from Thomas shunting in the yard, through his journey, and especially the theme when Thomas is pushed down the hill by the trucks. Even though the runaway scene could have been done a touch better, Thomas was very brave to fight those trucks. The ending is also coupled with my favourite rendition of the Sad Thomas theme, and you can actually feel sorry for poor Thomas.
Right, back in the game.

A Close Shave, because in the end you can't help but smile when Diesel is sent away and Duck returns to the sheds with the other engines.
A Scarf for Percy VS. Respect for Gordon

|

I'll go for 'A Scarf For Percy'. The one thing about its book version 'Percy and the Trousers' was that it was very short, and seemed a little rushed. Even though the conversation with Thomas and Percy at the start, and then with James after the accident weren't featured in the original story, they were still very Awdry-esque all the same, especially this one:
"So you found a scarf, eh? But legs go in trousers, not funnels!"
Once you ignore the slightly sugarcoated ending, it makes just as good a story as the original, if not better.
That said, Respect for Gordon was a nice ep too.

Thomas and the Breakdown train Vs James and the coaches

Post by stuart7 on Mar 4, 2008 23:36:05 GMT
I'll go for Thomas and the Breakdown Train. Plenty of nicely written action, James's sparking brakeblocks providing much drama, with the Runaway Theme. Then, there's an engaging rescue sequence, with the Breakdown Train Theme, and finally, Thomas proving his worth and earning his branchline. One of the best episodes Thomas ever featured in.
Next one from me:
Gordon Takes A Tumble vs. A Better View For Gordon

A Better View For Gordon any day of the week. Funny ("Ideas above your station" etc), dramatic, eventful... even the scene where Gordon is boasting on the turntable after being repaired the first time serves to emphasise his grandness. Plus, obviously, people were hurt. Not that I mean it like that... but more the whole "Luckily no-one was hurt" thing...
Bowled Out vs Train Stops Play

|
|
Post by stuart7 on Mar 5, 2008 0:33:25 GMT
I'm choosing Train Stops Play, even though Bowled Out was good too. I liked the version of the Adventure theme played here as Caroline chases Stepney, and there's plenty of humour, too. First, as Stepney sets off with the cricket ball, and finally with:
"You'll be lucky, Caroline looks worn out!"
Next two from me:
Trust Thomas vs. Trucks!

Trucks! It was written by the good Rev, and I love all the season 4 stories about the Narrow Gauge Engines. This is not to say I don't like Trust Thomas or stories not by the Rev, I just prefer them.
Now, for a tough one: Granpuff vs. Sleeping Beauty
|
|
|
Post by 01Salty on Mar 5, 2008 7:36:10 GMT
I'd say Granpuff. I enjoy it slightly more, because it's got comedy and the appearance of Smudger (cool underrated character ). Even though the standard-gauge engines were brought into it, I enjoyed it. Sleeping Beauty was also a good 'un, but Granpuff wins this time. A Smooth Ride vs. Sir Handel in Charge
