Here Without You by Three Doors Down A close online friend recently went into surgery (his third) to have a brain tumour removed, and this song reminds me just how tough the next few months are going to be while he recovers.
You Won't Be Mine by Matchbox 20 This one has some memories to it, when a past "lover" moved away and forgot about me. Before then, the album was one of our favourites to listen to on road trips, and even now it causes a little twinge of pain.
The Show Must Go On by Queen No specific memories tied to this particular song, but I can understand the message, as I've had to keep a smile on through the pain many times.

And I'll end with one from Thomas - That's What Friends are For. Whoever has that song, can they send it to me please? Anyway, a lot of songs make me go all emotionally fragile. Ain't No Planes..., New World and The sad little ditty played at the end of both Trap Door series to name a few.

A few of mine are Beatles songs.
WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS- A fantastic expression of pure misery, expressing not only sadness but the feeling of being alone in one's sadness.
SEXY SADIE- This is a different kind of sadness, the kind that comes after shock and fury, that feeling of hollowness and helplessness.
YOU'VE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY- Another superb song about sadness and futility.
Others include:
AIN'T NO SUNSHINE by Bill Withers. He puts this really soulful, emotional edge into the song that takes you straight to the emotional heart of the subject.
DEATH OF A CLOWN by the Kinks. A nostalgic sadness with a slightly frustrated edge.
CREEP by Radiohead. Again, another piece of frustration, this time at a hopeless love that is not only unrequited but unrequitable.

Candle in the Wind ('97 version) - Elton John (Saddest song ever! I agree, that version is a pretty sad version. You can kind of tell that he gets emotional during that version. Also, that song from 'Pikachu's Goodbye' pretty much made me cry when I first heard it, so you guys weren't alone. ATK

I have three big ones...
NoFX - Total Bummer Quote= Let me tell you it aint no sensation, watching all trains leave the station, left standing alone without a ticket.
This song is really sad, the lyrics in the bridge are happy sounding, but it's really depressing, the lyrics to the first verse are both perverted and sad, which until now I didn't know was possible, the mournful guitar solo is awesome, and generally a good sad song.
In Flames - Come Clarity
Quote= Sure... it would change my perspective... I am certain I would change today...
Who knew metal could be sad? This song has a really sad guitar solo, and the drums make the verses sound kind of boggy, which adds an awesome effect. Also, the vocals are all distorted which makes it sounds awesome. The chorus is heart-wrenching, the acoustic guitars are full of talent, and the solo is beyond incredible. Great song...
All American Rejects - Time Stands Still
Quote= And once they turn, they turn away... she says do go, please don't you cry...
I once cried while singing along to this song. The acoustic guitars are very funky, but in a sad way, and match perfectly with the automatic beat, and the chorus, with it's long mournful yooooooooooous. The third verse wrenches at your heart, with it's minor chords and lyrics about the akwardness in a final parting... and the ending piano riff isn't half bad either! Great song!

I think that the saddest song ever made is "Iris". I'm not a big music person, but that song is one fo my favorites.
Call me a geek, but I whenever I hear "To Dream the Impossible Dream" from the play Man of La Mancha I burst into tears. If you've seen the play or movie, you'd probably have cried too.

'Those Were the Days of Our Lives' by Queen was a relly sad song for me as it signaled the final months of Freddie Mercury's life, even the music vidoe was shot in black and white to hide the fact that he did have AIDS

Some of the songs that I think are particularly sad are (and don't laugh at me): Thank You For Loving Me-Bon Jovi One Headlight-The Wallflowers "One Headlight" made me cry a lot when I was little. Bon Jovi's song makes me tear too.

I thought I had a few good songs for this thread, other than the 5 or so FlyingScotsman and Troublesome Truck have already mentioned, but it seems I can only think of a few right now.
"Last Kiss"- Pearl Jam's cover is the only version I've heard
"Seasons in the Sun"- Terry Jacks- I don't know why I even know of this song to be honest! But it's one of the most depressing songs I've ever heard...a dying man reaching out to all the people he was ever close with.
"Fake Plastic Trees"- Radiohead
I'm sure I know of others I'll add later. There are songs that certainly don't sound sad but are quite dark lyrically, such as 'Paint it Black'....

Although I posted earlier, I think that I'm going to choose the following as the really sad songs...
R.E.M. - At My Most Beautiful. Very nice piano part... I think the song's title really expresses the song the best! R.E.M. - Leaving New York. The band's most recent single, I wasn't a fan of it at first, but I've now warmed to it, and think that, if another Greatest Hits is made, definitely must be reserved a place!

Here's some more songs that can added to the list. These are really sad songs, in my opinion. I used to bawl every time I heard them. I can control myself these days but my eyes get very teary-eyed whenever I hear them these days.
Untitled by Simple Plan Wake Me Up When September Ends by Green Day Not in Nottingham from Disney's Robin Hood What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts

I've just heard the song played in the Japanese version of the Pokemon episode "Pikachu's Goodbye". It's not quite as effective as The Time Has Come (from the English dub), but it's still pretty sad.

One sad song I can remember is "No Distance Left to Run" by Blur, as (a) it was done around the time that vocalist Damon Alburn had slipt up with his girlfriend and (b) the same has always kinda been happening to me.

Hmmmm...
Sounds of Silence ~ Simon & Garfunkel Born to Make You Happy ~ Britney Spears Laughing ~ The Guess Who She's Leaving Home ~ The Beatles
Actually, a lot of songs will make me cry, even if they are not meant to be sad. Sore Ga, Ai Deshou is a great example...most songs that I'll cry to usually have some memory attached to them. So that means my list of 'sad' songs is quite vast ^^'
