We (as a family) always had guinea-pigs. Cute little things! In fact we still have two of the things, Stoppit & Tidyup.

At the moment I have (well she is mine and my mum's dog, but lives with my mum in Leicester) a 7 year old black labrador called Ellie. She is the most crazy but lovely dog in the whole world, who likes nothing more than to curl up on the sofa with you and go to sleep! I had no idea we were getting a dog, having been told by my mum that we were going to see one of her friends who had a big train layout in their garage, and on opening the garage door saw all these little black balls of fluff and being told, one of those is ours! I was speechless, and so happy, Ellie was only 5 weeks old then, so we couldn't take her home, but I sat with her in my lap and fussed her while she decided it would be fun to lick my t-shirt. We picked her up 3 weeks later, and had a fun car journey home as Ellie decided to wanted to use me as a step stool so she could look out the windows at all the other cars! Needless to say this is still one of her favourite pastimes, and the windows in mine and my mums cars are covered in Ellie nose prints! She disgraced herself on the first day we had her at home, as she fell in the pond whilst having one of her mad half hours...needless to say she has never really been keen on going in water since then, although she did brave the canal near us aged 3 to play with the ducks, came out and promptly fell straight back in again...silly dog! She's calmed down a lot since then thankfully, though she does like to charge up and down the garden at my house with her tennis ball. Thankfully she's not had too many health problems, though we did find a large lump on her last summer which turned out to be cancerous, thankfully the vets managed to remove all of it and she has been fine since then. She is the most wonderful dog in the world, and I do miss her very much when I don't see her, but luckily she comes to stop with me and my partner Dan every so often, which is nice and Ellie enjoys it too because we spoil her rotten ;D Anyhows, a couple of piccies of the mad hound: This one was taken last summer while on holiday in Norfolk: And this one was taken back in August of this year, not long after her 7th birthday, needless to say she is looking quite old bless her, with a lot of her fur going grey, especially round her chin and on her tummy, but she still looks beautiful: Anyways, enough of my ramblings, TTFN!

I've got a bit of a strange situation going on lately......
Back on Sunday evening, as I was putting the rubbish out, I was approached by a fluffy ginger cat. He decided to let me stroke him for a minute....... then decided he would just walk straight into my house.
I let him stay for a bit, and gave him some water, but it took forever to get him to leave..... eventually I got him out for the night.
Then, on Monday, at about 9PM, he turns up again, and tries to move in once more......
........and now, today he's been here since about 3PM, and he won't go back to his original home, I've left him outside twice, but he just stays in the front garden.
I don't know if he's homeless, or where he came from, he's got no collar or any form of identification..... I'm really confused as to what to do from here with him.

Check for a microchip. Normally in the left front leg, above the knee. Capsule sized and shaped. If there's no microchip, take a pic - and put up some posters. "is this your cat?" etc etc

I had two cats - Rudy and Daxy
Rudy was in my life for a very short time in which I can remember. Unfortunately, I only remembered him in pain. He was attacked by two German Shephards (need to clarify my spelling on that), and had to be put down. My mom says he was a very loving cat. May he Rest in Peace
My other one Daxy was in my life for much longer. He's older than me! I slept with him, played with him, and I loved him very much. He was a VERY old cat. In his later years, he was really starting to show his age. He was skin and bones, and moved very slow. It was decided the best would be to put him down. It was done so. RIP Daxy, 2 months before your 20th birthday.

Well, I've been doing some leg work to find out the identity of my new furry tenant....... - No microchip
- No missing cat posters/adverts
- No vet record
- No-one anywhere knows her
I took her to the vets to scan for a microchip; and they've found a concerning lump, which may be cancer - so now I have to take her back there tomorrow morning, just to be sure. Everyone's saying that I should just keep her, but I'd rather she was back with her owners, especially if her life span is going to be so short.

You know, I had a similar thing with my cat, Iris. Came up to me one day last year - sweet as could be, totally all over me. No microchip, no tag, no records of a white cat with bi-colour eyes and a soot-like mark on the head in any vet's records. Asked around the area, nobody knew her. Mom likes to believe that she was a gift to me from my beloved Minuet, who died of cancer in 2009. Perhaps this girlie is just naturally lovable, and perhaps she is a gift to you from Thomas ~Elizabeth

........and now, the thrilling 3-part conclusion to this mystery cat.
After knocking on some doors up around the next block over, we eventually found out where the cat lives, and her name - Geri.
Turns out that the owner is currently in hospital; and that the neice should be cat/house-sitting, but obviously isn't. On Saturday, she was finally re-united with her owner, or at least her owner's family member.
She's back home now, and safe.

Great to hear, CPK. Having six cats under one roof (along with one manic pomeranian crossbreed), I know what it's like when that happens. Ironically enough, some months ago, someone along the street came across a little kitten wandering about one day and, thinking it was one of ours, she brought it to us. The little fella must have been at least 6 - 8 weeks old, but Mum promised to hold onto him until our friend found his real owners. And thankfully they did, half an hour later, about a quarter of a way up the street. Turns out the dizzy person left the front door clean open and didn't even realise he'd gone! Still, even for a half hour, Mum was very tempted to keep Dandy (for that was his name) if the worse came to worse. She's slowly becoming the "cat woman" of our street over the years... ...which isn't strange to me, really, since at our great-grandmother's house in Italy, we have new litters of stray cats and kittens cropping up every year to feed and look after. Almost home away from home, when you think about it

Keith, Christopher... I'm pretty sure the roles are reversed when it comes to cats - it's actually they who choose to keep you !

Keith, Christopher... I'm pretty sure the roles are reversed when it comes to cats - it's actually they who choose to keep you ! This is epically true So very true... Anyway, some news about one of my cats, Daisy Jane. She's dying. Kidney failure, complicated by liver issues. We fixed the liver, we give her fluids, we backflip when she eats. But the cold hard truth is that she is dying. We thought we would lose her last week, but surprisingly she's perked up. This will be the third cat in three years - and not one of them hit 10 years old Minuet in 2009, of a devastating cancer... Lily in 2010, of heart failure... and now Daisy. We won't have her by year's end, if she even lasts that long. Daisy's in the front, with Lily on the left, and Hyacinth on the right. It makes me misty-eyed to think one of my girls in the photo is already dead, with another on the way... ~Elizabeth

We had a weird situation with our labrador yesterday. There was a thunderstorm going on outside, and we had given her her favorite treat earlier in the day, a big bone. Later in the night, we saw that she was extrememly sensitive on the sides of her head, especially her left side. We thought maybe she had banged her head earlier and that hurt her, or that the tunderstorm was making her act moody. She definitely seemed in pain, it was hard for her to lie down and the like. But now, the next day, aside from seeming a little sluggish, she was back to normal! We think maybe she strained a muscle in her jaw from chewing her bone, but I don't know if that's possible. Anyone else have this happen to their dog?

I've been gone from the forums for a while, but I had to post this update. I know it's a double post, but given how many years it's been, I think it'll be forgiven.
This morning, I got a call from my parents that our dog, Layla, has passed away. She suffered from laryngeal paralysis over the last few months, and today's attack was just too much for her. She was our beautiful, wonderful black Lab for 12 years and she crossed the rainbow ridge today. I moved out of the house in 2017, so I haven't seen her very much these last 3 years, and I was aware the last time I saw her that she had gotten so much older in so short a span. I'm so unbelievably heartbroken by the news and I'm the kind of person where I can't grieve alone. I need to tell others around me for me to feel like I'm being helped. I know I haven't posted on these forums in a while, but I know I mentioned her on the forums before, and I had to say something.
RIP Layla, 3/15/08-6/6/20 Love you so much and I hope we'll be reunited.
Love your pets and cherish the time you have with them, everyone, because it's never enough.
