Not if you do your settings right... only people who I approve as friends can see my information, not that I have anything to hide, though!

I don't use MySpace. All my friends think I'm weird because I don't have one. If I *did* have one, I'd set it on private, and add my mates from school, forumers here who have it, etc. There's something I like about not having one...

I'm not much of a MySpace person, either. I've heard about how some younger teens can get themselves caught by people pretending they're someone they actually aren't.

I keep wanting to delete my MySpace, but peer pressure keeps me from doing that ^^' My friend Sandy will go nuts and my college buddies will think I'm weird - I can take that, but then I become more of an outcast then I already am ^^'

Liz, if you want to delete your myspace, then you should delete it. Don't let the fear of what others will say about you if you delete it. And you won't become an outcast if you delete it. Believe me, I know many people who don't have myspace pages.
Anyway, getting back to the subject of myspace, if you set your profile on "private", no one can read what is on your page except for your friends. So really, you have the choice to post your information for all to read or to keep it just between your friends.

I made my MySpace account about 2/3 years ago, with the sheer intention of making an online collection of friends, and possibly tracking down some older ones, and tyhat is all that has happened.
Remember, any and all information you put on the internet can be accessed by anyone, whether it's on MySpace or not. I'm not intending to start any kind of flame war here, but can you say that MySpace is the only place on the interenet that "evil" people can find out your details? At the end of the day, it is your decision about who you talk to and what you put up on the internet, and we can't continously shift the blame onto a single website for the actions of people who make the accounts.

Its for college and high school students. To CPK: You usually hear myspace being on the news, xD. The news makes it seem like the cause of why young girls meet ppl who they think are kids like them and then getting raped. I think facebook is a bit more safe though since not much people know about it like myspace and its suppose to be for students. I think they opened it a bit more now, but many kids are protesting that, it should stay student and alumni only.

Yeah, I can agree with that, the fact that people can manipulate their identities on the internet to be absolutely anyone- I'm just saying that MySpace isn't the sole cause of it, it can happen anywhere on the internet.

MySpace isn't necessarily full of paedophiles and rapists you know, and nor is it any worse of a hunting ground for them than anywhere else on the internet. I don't think anyone's daft enough to give out their home address or mobile numbers to just anyone person they meet, there has to be a mutual trust.
Each to their own really, I like having a MySpace; mainly because I use my blog to b*tch about things and it's almost become a timeline of the past year or so. It gives me a chance to look back on things I've been through, things I've done and enjoyed, as well as things I've endured. I should update my blog a bit more often, but I can't be bothered. I like having something decent to say first to make it interesting.

It may not the the only site where identity fraud is possible, but it's definitely the most high-profile one. I don't have a MySpace myself - I just don't see the popularity of it myself. I don't feel compelled to have a place where I can have all sorts of things on my own site, my thoughts, my favourite things...OK, I can see some of the attraction, but I've got plenty of other sites to expound upon them. Like here for one.

Yeah, ANYWHERE on the internet people can manipulate their idenities - but MySpace seems to be a hotspot for it...

Before Myspace, the big bad wolf was supposed to be online chatrooms and forums. Have they suddenly, miraculously become safer? No, the press has just found something new to scare people with. No doubt whatever the next online craze is, there will be the same kind of hysteria. You don't need Myspace to create a fake identity, you could just go to any email provider and sign up under a false name, and the entire Internet is your oyster. As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be forevermore. Amen.
What I do find annoying about Myspace is the number of spammers on there. For instance, has anyone else received those friend requests which come from some gorgeous-looking girl, but clicking on the name reveals a profile that's almost empty, apart from about 10,000 comments by guys who think this woman actually exists and is not a front for spam.

I have! I didn't click on it, though, cos the particular girl wasn't my type....
Anyways, I've now got 21 [mainly fictional] friends on my MySpace area; basically, I use Wikipedia, find my favourite characters on it, type their names into the Search box and see if they've got their own page. I'm now friends with Sandy Cheeks (from SpongeBob SquarePants), Shadow the Hedgehog and Pit (from Kid Icarus) to name but a few. Also--get this--Norm the Genie (from the Fairly OddParents) has commented twice on thanking me for adding him to my area! ;D

I have a few fictional friends, but since they were created by me I don't feel guilty. I have...
Number Six (from The Prisoner, maintained by me and my flatmate God (I'm not saying God's fictional, but my profile for him is) Various characters from my comic strip, before I realised that nobody actually reads anyone else's blog.

Just in case I ever change my website in my profile (I doubt I will, as I'm too lazy), or you can't find me on anyone else's profile, as they don't love me enough to put me in their top friends, here is the URL to my MySpace account.
