I wasn't sure if it's okay making a new thread on Michael Jackson after Simon closed the thread because the singer died and it's run its course. Though I don't think it's fair as we still have threads on past musicians that passed away and they're still open. Plus, there's still stuff being revealed about the singer like unreleased songs.
Anyway, I didn't get into Michael Jackson until my teens after accidentally watching "Bad" on Youtube a few years before he passed away. I started to enjoy his songs over the years. My top favorites are still "Smooth Criminal" and "Speed Demon".

Beat It and Smooth Criminal are always some of my favorites from the 5 pillars of Jackson (Bad, Beat it, Smooth Criminal, Thriller, and Billie Jean) and i do agree we should be allowed to talk more about this musician in particular. If im gonna be honest though, wasn't a fan of his last album.

How funny that I log on to SiF tonight wanting to start a thread on Michael Jackson and then find this! Up until this year, I was never a big fan of Michael Jackson. I didn't really know much about him. My earliest memories of discovering him was coming across an animation of this in 2005/06 on FunnyVideos.com : I then asked my mum who Michael Jackson was, to which she informed me he was a famous popstar who was originally "black but then changed to being white". Eight-year old me still didn't know what the point was about a court room in the video but I digress. The other memory of him was learning about the announcement of the 'This Is It' tour in the Spring of 2009 and then his subsequent shock passing in the summer that year. A friend of mine then bought The Essential Michael Jackson CD very soon after the fact and he introduced me to it. We very soon started listening and dancing to some of the tracks from his career. Along the way, I had watched someone winning 2nd Place in a Morph animation competition by Aardman Animations of Morph dancing to Smooth Criminal (which I have to say, still stand up today and is iconic in my mind as ever!) Anyway, I had heard a question on Richard Osman's House of Games about Prince (I know, different right!) and I then wondered if, being so similar, whether Prince and Michael Jackson ever met or collab'd. One thing lead to another and I suddenly found myself going down numerous rabbit holes and listening to more of his songs. I have discovered a new found appreciation for them and for him as an artist and entertainer! My favourite song at the minute has to be Bad - the choreography and the song is the closest thing to a marriage of perfection! But that being said, Man In The Mirror is just a gem of powerful lyrics, vocals, and melody. James Bourne from Busted (my all-time favourite band) has stated that it's his favourite song and he wishes he could have written it because it was that exceptional as a song. However, it is My current Top 5, based on how much I listen to them, is: 1. Bad 2. Tabloid Junkie 3. You Are Not Alone 4. Human Nature 5. Man In The Mirror I plan on listening to all the MJ albums soon so this list is bound to fluctuate. But I'm comfortable with this list atm. Changing the subject slightly, would it be appropriate to use this thread as a way to discuss the child abuse allegations about Michael Jackson? It was through my own research into them that I actually became more interested in him and his music. I've found it quite a fascinating topic but if that requires its own discussion thread, I'm happy to set one up and create a healthy discussion?

As much as I have faith in the maturity of discussion from our membership, I'm inclined to say no out of concern that this would invite both sides of the argument with regards to whether or not someone is a child abuser on, what is at the end of the day, a Thomas & Friends fan forum with memberships as young as 13.

Fair enough Nicholas . I very much agree that I had faith in the majority of members to maintain sensible and mature levels of discussion (had I not believed that, I would avoided mentioning it in the first place) and I would have been intrigued to have heard what other people thought on the matter and engage in meaningful discussion. But I had completely overseen that the membership age would have made the content of that discussion of that inappropriate for 13-17 to have seen. Thanks for your guidance
I have since bought The Essential Michael Jackson CD from my HMV store but it's the 2010 reissue and not that one I remember so the cover is a bit different. I don't enjoy looking at what they've done to it. The silver hue distracts from album cover photos; it's too thick and obscures the colour and detail I would have liked to have enjoyed absorbing. The contents is what matters though so I'm happy with how the compilation has the tracks that I want to enjoy listening to in my Apple Music library without the lossy compression of YouTube videos. Has anyone seen MJ The Musical? What does everyone think of it? I really want to go and see it in London personally! It looks brilliant
