Come on, you all knew it would come to this... This mob were and still are a very underrated band. I only bought the album currently featured as my avatar (Living Years) on a whim (and because it was $10 ) and it is packed with solid gold from top to tail. They were originally formed as a Genesis side-project, but they've more than held their own over the last 20 years. Their two biggest hits would be The Living Years and All I Need Is A Miracle. I've been banging on about them for ages, and coupled with: - 2 Sig pics; - An avatar; - Being mentioned in A Very SiF Summer Holiday; - And in Baking and Baker Street; - Plus Chris' new Music Video I requested of him, It sort of makes sense to have a thread about them. So here it is.

Hm, well, I do trust your taste in music very much, Clay ( ), so I'll definately be checking them out as soon as I have the time.

Hm, well, I do trust your taste in music very much, Clay... And so you should Bought their first self titled album and their third album, named Word of Mouth, over the past month or so. Quality stuff, a nice blend of ballad, pop and rock. There's definitely that 80s 'feel' to all of their music, which makes sense, when you think about it.

OK, I've got all 5 of their albums that were recorded before the untimely death of one of their singers, Paul Young, in 2000, and I have to say they're lighter than Queen - myother music love - by a fair margin most of the time, although they are capable of quality heavy stuff. Ended up making an 18 track compilation of their best work over the five albums yesterday. It's pretty evenly spread between albums, showing the consistency of product they put out.
I do think Living Years is their best album, followed by Word Of Mouth, M6/Mike and the Mechanics (1999 release), Mike and the Mechanics (1986 release) and Beggar On A Beach Of Gold bringing up the rear. It just didn't have the freshness or diversity of the other four, although it did arrest the decline in fortune after WOM, which just didn't happen commercially sadly.
But yeah, they're a great pop group who were capable of some solid strong songs. Well worth the investment if you can find them in the cheap bin. Or the expensive bin. But cheap is more likely.

OK, for all...none of you who care, I got the Mechanics' most recent album a couple weeks ago. It's...different, to say the least. The absence of co-lead singer Paul Young is obvious, and the album is a lot more computerised and synthesised than anything else they did, which is a bit of a disappointment after the acoustic goodness of M6. That sort of music isn't really my thing, but I suspect after a few more listens I'll get more into it.

And I have. Well, some of the songs on the album, anyway. A few are just not my thing. But it's not a bad album. Just different, like I said. Because I'm such a generous, loving soul, I'm going to attempt to spread the Mechanic love amongst you all thanks to YouTube. Silent Running - From the first album The Living Years - Stands undisputed as the best song ever in my mind, for both musical depth and the strength of meaning it features Word Of Mouth - One of their heavier songs, and great fun to scream out when no one's around. Over My Shoulder - From BOABOG, it's a good quality acoustic track. With whistling One Left Standing - From Rewired, it's one of the better songs on the album, and the film clip is bloody cool. The Full Mechanics YouTube compilation - a bunch of other songs, live performances and such. It's a good fun way to waste an evening, so go nuts.

I wasn't famaliar with this band. However, thanks to a Thomas fan music video from a long time ago, I did listen to their song "Nobody's Perfect". I loved that song the moment I've listened to it. Well, I did like Miley Cyrus' song with the same name as well, but Mike And The Mechanic's version cannot be topped.
