If you don't mind the fact that it's in Japanese, Shugo Tokumaru is a very talented artist.
Also, Flight of the Conchords is a hilarious 2-piece band from New Zealand. They also have a show on HBO, but I'm not sure if it's still on.

Yuzo Koshiro's soundtracks. Freaking amazing. M.O.V.E. - Another Japanese group, lots of work for "Initial-D." 8ball - Not the rapper...yet another J-rock group. These guys are favorites of Drifting fans, as they did the intro to the D1 Drifting Grand Prix coverage in the JDM Option DVD Magazine. They also sing in English. T-Square/Masahiro Andoh: Japanese Instrumentalist group, and famous composer, guitarist. Andoh composed the Japanese-market introduction to the game "Gran Turismo," and it's stuck with the game, now in it's fifth generation. The group as a whole is famous for use of the EWI, or Electronic Wind Instrument, a synthesizer that's blown into like a clarinet

I would recommend a few bands for anyone who wishes to get into Heavy Metal:
Black Sabbath Judas Priest Iron Maiden Metallica Megadeth DragonForce Rhapsody of Fire (Formerly Known as Rhapsody).
From which of these, you can then choose you own path of Heavy Metal.

Lately, a singer that I have absolutely fallen in love with is Icelandic sensation, Björk[/u]. Her songs are beautiful. She evolves through so many phases. With most bands or singers it takes several years and albums for them to really change their sound, but with Björk, you never know what you'll get. Compare Medúlla, her 2004 release that was nearly entirely accappela, combining choirs, throat singers and even beatboxers to her most recent release, the dance heavy Volta. This singer is very good at thinking outside the box and coming up with interesting songs. Also, be sure to check out some of her music videos. They are all amazing in their own way. Be sure to especially check out "Human Behaviour", "Who Is It" and "It's Oh So Quiet".
Another singer that has been really enjoyable for me is Amanda Palmer[/u]. Fans of punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls will recognize her as the amazing singer and pianist of the band. She recently released her first major release solo album "Who Killed Amanda Palmer". If the fact that the title spoofs Twin Peaks isn't what makes this album amazing, then the songs themselves win it. It contains beautiful piano ballads ("Another Year", "Point Of It All", "Have To Drive"), angry rock ("Astronaut", "Runs In The Family", "Guitar Hero"), meaningful songs that make statements, be them in real life or in the stories the songs portray ("Ampersand", "Blake Says", "Strength Through Music"), silly tunes ("Oasis", "I Google You"), and even to songs that stray into the world of musical theatre (Leeds United, "Straight", "What's The Use Of Wond'rin?"). The album is a beautiful piece that shouldn't be overlooked. Whether she's with Brian Viglione of the Dresden Dolls or on her own, Amanda Palmer is an inovative artist that is worth noticing.
A final artist is Liam Lynch[/u]. Fans of MTV, back when it still played music, will remember the show "Sifl and Olly", which Lynch produced and starred in. Others will recognize his popular song "United States of Whatever". He now has a popular featured podcast entitled "Lynchland", following Lynch's fictional exploits, including hunting street bison, waking up in the future, and challenging an evil emporer, aided with nothing but an enchanted CASIO keyboard. The fact that the majority of the work is done by him alone makes the series that much better. The podcast has spawned two albums, which feature the musical segments from the show. Most recently however, he has released a new album "Get Up On The Raft" (on top of working on Lynchland). The album features a rare moment in which Lynch makes serious songs. The album is low-key and almost entirely acoustic, but is enjoyable nevertheless. Other interesting albums by Lynch include the midi-esque "We're All Nighters" which was written and recorded entirely at night, along with "How To Be A Satellite", an interesting compilation of songs that range from comeidic ("B-Side", "Club Sucker"), to dead serious ("Waves Low and High", "Dear Zero") along with several interesting electronic numbers ("Fresh Electric", "Step Out Of Time", "This Town Sucks"). Enjoy listening!

I guess I should suggest something:
I get around-Tupac
It was a good day-Icecube
Now I know only a small group here likes rap, but at least give these to songs a try. They're devoted to the good times in each artists lives, the beats are just too laid-back and give you a calm feeling.
O.P.P-Naughty by Nature
Another "good times" song, more up-beat than the other two, more of a party song.
Straight outta Compton-N.W.A.
I suggest getting the clean-version for this one, the group puts reality into their lyrics, rapping about the tough life in rough neighborhoods.
Let me ride-Dr. Dre
Again, the clean version is recommended, another laid-back song, but with funk (which is why it's called G-funk), I can't even describe it, it's......a great song.

Two bands I'd recommend: Public Image Limited- John Lydon's band after the Sex Pistols. Okay I'll admit I don't like Lydon much, but this band has some good songs. Examples being Seattle, Rise, This is not a love song, and public image. and band number 2: Placebo: been getting into them. pretty solid band. some good tunes. examples being: song to say goodbye, pure morning, this picture, and twenty years. k...all I'll say is what was I thinking when I posted that back in 07? dear lord....I listened to rubbish back then. anyways bands I'd recommend now: Stone Roses: Their 87-90 stuff is just drop dead amazing. IMO, the best debut album ever. Their second album isn't as good but still has some good stuff on it as well. Overall, VERY HIGHLY recommended. Ian Brown: His solo stuff....while there's some misses there's several hits in there too. Also, good always for a listen. Daft Punk: Been a fan of their for years. Simply put, IMO the best electronic band to come from the 90s and still making great stuff today. Their Alive 2007 album is truly amazing, and a must get (try and get the version with the encore though...you WILL NOT be disappointed). 1st 2 studio albums are also pretty good (minus the remix album and their 3rd studio one is well....variable at best). Overall though, again recommended highly.

A few personal favourite acts of mine which I think will be most peoples taste here: * Joy Division/New Order - Enough said!. One of most influential bands ever. * Manic Street Preachers - the first four albums and the latest Journal For Plague Lovers. * Tegan and Sara - Especially their last album 'The Con'. Great girls and brilliant stand ups as well!. * Paramore - The exception however being 'Riot' in regards as to how TOO poppy it was. However the latest of theirs 'Brand New Eyes' is a definite improvement and the first album 'All We Know Is Falling' is a must as well!. * The Police - Another obvious choice that goes without saying. Notably for having great songs which had a unique twist to them!. * The Verve - Urban Hymns being the obvious choice but also try out 'A Storm In Heaven' and 'A Northern Soul'. * The Cure - Again another obvious favourite. Robert Smith is one of the best songwriters out there. * U2 - All the records right up till 'Zooropa'. The more recent stuff isn't much good.

I back up the reccomendations for Stone Roses, Ian Brown and Manic Street Preachers there. Mega shouts there One band I would also reccomend are The Courteeners. Their kind of a indie sound band from Manchester (which seems to ooze music class acts) but they do have some pretty good lyrics placed with some catchy but good rock based tunes.
