Yeah the important thing currently is to look after yourselves first. Don't be donating money or feel bad for not donating if your struggling to buy food or anything like that. Many people are lucky that they can work from home and save the fuel costs for driving to work, myself included there. However, I'm fully aware that there are just as many people who aren't so lucky and don't get me started on those working in the NHS, Royal Mail and every other key service who are still going out every day to work.
So, yes, preserved railways and other charitable organisations which rely on public visitors need our help. I do encourage enthusiasts to donate money in order to keep them afloat and ensure they will be there when this is all over. However, do not feel bad if your unable to donate for any reason, look after yourselves first.

I do believe that this was literally the first rule of this thread. One condition that the staff feel we must make absolutely clear, however, is that the thread is not to be used to criticise or scrutinise the politics surrounding any government or their response to the pandemic. The thread is for supporting each other and to help people feel connected to others in a time of global crisis. Just a random reminder not to judge people who go outside frequently if you're the type that doesn't go out unless its for necessities. Do what you want, just don't force it on others as long as they are following social distancing rules. Some people just need some fresh air to stay sane. The thread's stated goal isn't to criticize rules in place, but to check in with each other and provide a positive atmosphere for those who are staying at home to protect others.

Just to follow up on Ajani's post I'll say that the health and safety of our members is a priority. The staff strongly encourage you to follow the recommendations of experts in your area. I do not wish to read comments shaming people who voice dissatisfaction with those flouting the imposed restrictions on unnecessary travel. Action will very likely be taken against any members who openly excuse or endorse disregarding COVID-19 advice. I will not see people on the forums encouraging people to put their own lives and the lives of other at risk unnecessarily simply because some people feel they 'just need some fresh air'.

Hey, guys! As some of you may know if you’ve seen my post on the ‘Your YouTube Videos Wanted’ thread, I’ve started doing a YouTube series of audio recordings for children. I just thought I’d share this book I recorded recently with you, if you have, or know someone who has young children (in the case of the latter, you could share it with them, and see if they would like to show it to their children) - though I understand completely if you don’t want to. This book does not deal with COVID-19 itself, but, since thousands of families are mourning the loss of loved ones as a result of the pandemic, I thought it would be appropriate to upload this, to help children understand that those members of their family may be gone, but they are never forgotten. If you enjoyed this video, why not like it and subscribe to my YouTube Channel?:

To mark the 75th Anniversary of the day the first Railway Series volume was published, this seems as appropriate a time and place as any to drop a teaser for a little piece of writing (that will have a few other bits of artwork to go along with it) that's still very much in the works... Hopefully the finished piece should be ready to be put up here on SiF within the next couple of months.

As we all continue to endure this pandemic, I just wanted to inquire about a particular that I saw a clip of from This Morning (which for those outside the UK is a British daytime television programme). Has anyone been having something referred to as quarandreams or pandemic dreams? Because I feel like I've had a couple of those already.
The first one which was a while back, but I was stuck in Florida and needed to fly out to Japan (bearing in mind that I've never been to Japan) in order to get a plane ticket to fly from Florida back to the UK. I've since decided that aspects of that dream came from me missing Florida, and the fact that the British Government have been sending some tests for Covid out to America.
The second which was the night before last, I dreamt that I was Del Boy from Only Fools & Horses wandering round in my local area trying to evade Rodney and Uncle Albert - to whom I spotted by the three-wheel van parked near where I live. In the end I didn't evade them as Uncle Albert ended up spotting me saying: "'ere, Del Boy's here, Rodney" and whatever I'd done I got a right mouthful from Rodney. I don't know what if it had any connections to anything, but I ended up watching an episode of Only Fools last night regardless.
All the same, I hope that all members are bearing up well amidst all that's going on - even as many countries ease out of lockdown and hope and pray that there isn't a second wave.

A promotional video I took for my virtual rowing challenge, to raise money for the Bluebell Railway to help it during COVID-19, having filmed all shots of the Bluebell Railway myself. Also, yes, the person rowing is me. Why not like this video, share it, and support me? The link is here: uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-portal/fundraiserPage?pageId=1164230

I know there are far greater, more life-critical things, but I do hope all the little heritage railways make it through. They bring so much joy.

Hey, guys. Just a little news to bring some light in a day of darkness - I've just raised £416.25 for the Bluebell Railway as part of my rowing challenge to raise funds for it during COVID-19!

Actually, change that - recent donations have upped my total considerably. I have now earned £466.25 for the Bluebell Railway!

One thing I'm happy to report regarding COVID-19 is that an event that I'm going to DIDN'T get cancelled! It's the Southeast Old Thresher's Reunion in Denton, NC, which I attend almost every year.

Once again as we all continue to endure this pandemic, is it just me amidst other things going on following the death of George Floyd in America and all the recent Black Matter Lives protests which some have escalated into riots and clashes with police. But is anyone else beginning to get that feeling as to whether there is still a pandemic going on or is it simply the media and governments more diverting their attention to these other issues?
I know that we're always told that COVID-19 is still afoot in places around the globe, but I just feel like the light switch has been flicked off and then back on just like that as if you've asked someone what's happening with the pandemic and they've gave the simple answer: "What Pandemic?" It could be just me, but who knows with the way things are going at present.

Does anyone have a map of Sodor after the ERS has had it's say? I know Salty01 has one of the RWS, but I see no map since the ERS has had an impact. For background, I am a rather keen geographer... And I seem to like poring over maps to pass the time nowadays.

Just have to get off my chest...
I'm anxiously awaiting the results of my COVID-19 test. Where I live (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada), asymptomatic testing has been approved for quite a few weeks now. Our curve was so flat and hospital capacity was increasingly underwhelmed that they've opened up testing to anyone, symptomatic or asymptomatic, which is fantastic. My province has ramped up the testing 2 to 3 fold, which does see an increase of positive cases around the same amount. So many are asymptomatic though (which is great; isolate at home, and don't overwhelm the healthcare system). But I'm at a point where I thought I would hear by now (it's been over 3 days now, and everyone I know has taken 2 days or less), and people I've been around (close cohort) have had negative, or negative but exposure to a known case where they legally have to self isolate.
I'm thankful to live in a fairly low-density area, and that the gradual reopening has brought about an increase yet not an exponential increase of cases. But still. I've (wisely, I think) postponed a visit with my 86 year old grandma and tightened my social circle, among other things, as we're not out of the woods yet... far from it.
Off my chest. Thanks for reading.

As it is now an undeniably unavoidable and unifying topic, the staff team have decided to open a thread dedicated to discussion of self-isolation as a result of COVID-19 for those of us who wish to talk about it and how it is affecting us. This thread can be used for members to check in, say how they're doing and to discuss worries or concerns. I personally feel that SiF has always been more than just an online forum, but a community. With many self-isolating willingly or in an imposed lockdown and others working hard to provide key services, we are more than happy to encourage members, whatever their situation, to engage with each other, support each other and help each other throughout this stressful time, in true community spirit. One condition that the staff feel we must make absolutely clear, however, is that the thread is not to be used to criticise or scrutinise the politics surrounding any government or their response to the pandemic. The thread is for supporting each other, spreading positivity and kindness and to help people feel connected to others in a time of global crisis. Hi! My name is Michael and I am a young man with autism. I was so excited to discover this forum and especially loved reading the interview with Michael Brandon! I just wanted to say one way I am managing time at home during COVID-19 is working on screenplays and drawings that I share on my blog: www.screenplaysandartbymichael.com. My older sister, Kelly, helps show my artwork and stories on my blog and helped me write this post. If you are looking for something to do, check out my "Day out with Thomas" screenplay that I wrote. Thanks for reading! Sincerely, Michael

Also, as well as raising funds for the Bluebell, I too have been busy. For one thing, I am applying for several Early Years Education (with Early Years Teacher status) courses, to be qualified to teach children under 5. For another, I have been particularly busy on my YouTube Channel...:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCThSSlZEliTZj9-7YayM6Kg?view_as=subscriber

I was in lockdown at my special needs program because of the coronavirus and couldn't leave until someone tried to sexually assault me and I was taken out. It was hell. But I made it out fine and have been waiting out the storm of COVID despite America going "off the rails" so to speak, but its not bad in the state that I live in.
Also I know this is going to be stupid but "Coughs and Sneezles spread Diseasels". Sorry.

I've realized I haven't posted how my situation is since this Spring. Long story short, I am back at work now, and am married; with a successful and social distanced ceremony. Sorry. I'm sorry for what you've been through. If I could react with Facebook's "Care" I would.
