Anyone here have any tattoos? What do you have, does it have any special meaning? Do you want one someday? How is the public perception of tattoos in your locale?
I myself have wanted one for the longest time, and the process of choosing exactly what I want and committing is stressful to say the least. I tend to think things out for a long time, and as such, have it "analysis paralysis". I have a consultation booked with an artist next Wednesday to help finalize a design and something "smart" for a lack of a better word.
In my area in Western Canada, tattoos are fairly commonplace. There is still the fear of how employable someone is with some businesses, but you just have to be smart about where you get them. My current GM has two full sleeves, and most of my managers have fairly visible ones. I am definitely in the minority at my work without any, but I do work in the hospitality industry which is different.
I'm curious about you guys!

I personally don't like the practice of applying a chemical concoction like permanent ink to porous skin and flesh. It seems like a waste of money and doesn't provide long-term enjoyment. Surely, after so many years of having it on your body, you'd get bored of that particular design and wish you could get rid of it. Even if you could afford laser treatment, I've heard it leaves scars that are hard to mask (probably why tattoo bearers who outgrow their designs find it more affordable and practical to leave their tats unerased).
I can't understand why individuals would want permanent ink defacing what is natural beauty. In my opinion, I think it's very unhealthy if chemicals that you can't easily remove are infiltrating your bloodstream. Wear a new fashion of clothes if you want to express yourself or invest in something that is a) not harmful to your body and b) is of optional choice so you have the decision to wear it or not.
That being said, I understand that tribes in other countries have practiced markings for centuries. One example being that India with Mehndi decorations (Henna tattoos) as part of their culture - as I understand the Henna ink is made out of the Henna plant (Lawsonia Inermis, a shrub-like plant), so bearing this in mind the process is less toxic as those at a typical tattoo parlour.
I would never judge anyone if that had a tat or not. It's their body and all I care about is if they have a nice personality or not. I just don't agree with the whole trend of it.

I have thought about it several times, even designed a couple but have never committed myself to get one. My wife has two, one on her right arm near the top which is my name in Chinese. The other one is on her shoulder blade and is a little flamingo standing in water on one leg.
They're usually covered unless she wears a thin summer top with straps.
It isn't a surprise to see anyone around here with tattoos. Whether I got one I am not sure. A old friend of mine worked at a local tattoo parlour and even helped design several, getting commission if someone got one of his designs.
