Aye, that was a pretty neat little animation, to say it was CGI. Just goes to show you can bring out the life and personality in vehicles without giving them faces!

Here's something else I found: Budgie the Little Helicopter show has it's own train! His name is Old Jake, and looks quite interesting. Does anyone have any idea whether he's based on a real locomotive?

Here's something that predates the RWS, taken from an issue of the Railway Magazine. It's not about kids trains as such but talking trains definitely..... Interestingly, they suggest that the RWS was based on the article, and it seems possible as i remember reading somewhere that Awdry used to read the Railway Magazine. Anyway, here it is; it's a nice satirical article, something we can still relate to today img206.imageshack.us/img206/29/revoltofthelocomotivesni9.jpg

Quite a few sources say that Wilbert looked at pictures in his father's bound copies of the Railway Magazine long before he could read, if that helps...

Not sure if this counts, but does anyone remember the Trolley from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood? I happened to see a video in a store the other day that contained a small model of it. Sorry, but I forgot what the video was. Here's what it looks like anyway.

Apparently, that piece of artwork was meant to be a statement against people throwing food onto railway lines. Also, don't you think that engine's face resembles Homer Simpson?

Anyone remember the animated version of "The Little Engine That Could"? It was from Universal in 1991, and now it's almost impossible to find. It has a great music score, IMO.

The Museum of London has it on display, labelled as an example of satire on the then-recent collapse of railway shares. I think anthropomorphic trains go back as far as steam engines themselves. I'm thinking Puffing Billy, Catch-Me-Who-Can, the Best Friend, the John Bull...

This looks like some kind of bizarre cross between Thomas, Tugs and The Little Engine That Could:
Theme tune isn't bad though. It reminds me of Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics from around the same time.

I have a book about that train. It involves him picking up a tug a lion and a rabit IIRC (don't worry, the tug put in a truck with water, though it doesn't explain how he got in it in the first place...)

That's Tootle the steam engine and Katie the blue Caboose!!
The other characters are. Pokey little Puppy, Shy little Kitten, Baby Brown Bear, Scuffy the Tug boat, Tawny Scrawy Lion, Saggy Baggy Elephant, and Beamer the lighthouse.
I know quite a few stories about Tootle.
Some about his adventures with the animals of little golden book land. And his 'intro' book about him going to 'train school' where he learns why red flags are important.
As well as that video, shown on youtube, nice story, even if the video I got has cut a few scenes. (As I remember seeing more footage on a TV show)
Rusty5, I think I have the animated verion of 'Little engine that could' you are refering to. The blue engine was called Tilly and had a little bird friend named Chip? If so, then I still have the video.
Then there was Puff 'n Toot read along story. Chugs from an old Easter Bunny movie.
mmmm so many memories. Lucky I got most on tape.

Yes, the video did give the little engine the name Tillie. It had a bigger plot than the simple one of the book, but that's what it needed to fill 30 minutes. It's pretty strange that such a classic book's adaptation hasn't been put on disc yet...

The title is "Little Golden Book Land- The Great Harbor Rescue". I have the video, and I'm happy that it's still in good viewing order. The story is about how the Little Golden Book characters try to save their land from being flooded by an approaching storm.

I sure remember it as I use to watch it all the time. The best thing about the movie (Besides the music) Was that it had two legends of voice acting in it. Kath Soucie better know as Phil and lill from Rugrats and Frank Welker better known for Abu (I think I spelled that right) from Disney's Aladdin.

Remember there was talk of another train series to "rival" Thomas? sodor.proboards77.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=1133581646&page=9It's nothing spectacular yet, as it won't actually premire until later this year, and we really shouldn't judge instantly on first glance...but for the benefit of the doubt of curious minds, here's a preview website of " Chuggington": chuggington.com/
BTW, remember on the old forum I found another series called " The Diddleys, steam-powered super heroes"? Looked like a cross between Jay Jay the Jet Place and The Save-Ums. The website seems long since gone...

I just tried ot search the internet for "The Diddley's", but couldn't find diddly about them. I should imagine the idea has been scrapped.
Chuffington itself seems to me to be more of arival to Underground Ernie really, considering the diesels and the CGI..... though I'll need to watch it and see first. Nice bright colours though, I can assume the engine on the far right is a female.

Regarding Chuggington chuggington.com/Pretty significant update, what with the trailer and the interviews. A little early to judge, though, if you ask me.
