You know, it's a shame this part of the forum doesn't get as much attention. Time to liven things up a bit.
Welcome to SiF FM, the thread where SiFers can share what kinds of music they're currently listening to right now. Just finished ploughing through an album? Had the same song stuck in your head all day? Let us know your thoughts here.
I'll get the ball rolling with my main listening of the day: If You're Feeling Sinister by Belle and Sebastian.
It's been several years since I listened to a Belle and Sebastian album properly and since I'd just finished reuploading a bunch of my sister's collection onto the laptop, I figured it was time for a revisit. I guess I didn't quite appreciate the gentle jangliness of the band's earlier stuff when I was younger, because I'm loving it now. A lot catchier than I remember. Me and the Major, The Stars of Track and Field and Judy and the Dream of Horses might be my personal favourites. The former has some great harmonica in there; then again harmonica is great in any song.
I'm also currently obsessed with Franz Ferdinand and Sparks' new supergroup single, P*** Off. Telling everyone to get lost and leave you alone has never sounded so jolly.
Over to you, SiF: what are you listening to today?

Rod Stewart's 'Great American Songbook', volumes 1-5. I'm a big fan of Rod Stewart, and that era of rock'n'roll in general. Bob Seger and the Eagles are also amongst my favourites.
You could say I like that old time rock'n'roll :-).

At the moment I'm indulging into some Christian Rock/ Metal. I've been listening through RED's Discography. Love the songs "Far Away" and "Not Alone" in particular. Great band whose lyrics are not, "OMG worship" and have a cool dramatic sound to them. I tend to listen to this stuff when I want something more upbeat. Also been listening to some Owl City, "Shooting Star", and the Kill La Kill OST which isn't as epic as Attack on Titan or Guilty Crown but Til I Die and the main theme are still awesome Hiroyuki Sawano tracks.

Currently I'm listening to some tracks by Medwyn Goodall, my favourite so far being 'Full Moon Magic'. I tend to play some tracks of his to help me relax while writing my stories and every now and again it helps me come up with some ideas to help the story flow. Growing up in the 90's, I often heard music like Medwyn's being played and had taken a liken to it. It's music like it that helps the creative mind focus on a task, blocking off any distractions that would interfere.
Great to see a thread like this on here. I've mainly been listening to audiobooks at the moment (mainly from Big Finish!), but the last album I bought was the remastered special edition release of McCartney II.
I've been getting more into the solo works of The Beatles and found Paul McCartney's music to be fascinating at how experimental his work has been in the past. My favourite tracks from the album are Front Parlour, Frozen Jap, Bogey Wobble and All You Horse Riders.
Some of them aren't the best music ever written, but I like them for the quirkiness and creative experimentation that went into them. It's the only album I know of which has one artist performing on every vocal and musical instrument and I can tell McCartney had fun making this one.

Most SiFers probably know that I love my Heavy Metal music, anything from Iron Maiden to Metallica and DragonForce. But aside from them, I generally listen to a lot of Power Metal from a lot of renowned European Bands such as: Rhapsody Of Fire, Epica, Nightwish, Kaledon, Stratovarius, and Gamma Ray to name a few.
Pretty much nowadays I'm really high on a lot of Power Metal bands like Stratovarius, Epica, Nightwish, Power Quest (who sadly disbanded in 2013), Neonfly, Kamelot, and of course the traditional Heavy Metal bands that I of course will never tire from. Aside from Metal, I really enjoy Film/TV Soundtracks like John Williams - but I'm really enjoying some of Murray Gold's score from Doctor Who.

I'm a big fan of Nickelback & Within Temptation, they are my favourite bands, I have all their albums on my I Pod Touch & have all their albums in my car, good driving music, my ideal soundtrack, so 2 different kinds of rock really.

People actually like this thread! Hooray!
So I think I properly love Belle & Sebastian now. Just finished my mini-marathon with their newest album, Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance. It's hard to believe the same band could go from whispery acoustic indie pop to full-blown synth dance rock and still seem like themselves, but not only do they do it, they do it well. Very well. Then again, dance rock is probably my favourite genre, so there we are.
I'm especially fond of The Power of Three, The Everlasting Muse and Perfect Couples this time around, though if I have to play favourites with all the albums, Dear Catastrophe Waitress and The Life Pursuit are one helluva one-two punch. Near-perfect pop, start to finish.
Also had on They Might Be Giants' new album, Glean, made up from songs from their relaunched Dial-A-Song service. Enjoyed this one a lot too, probably more than its predecessor Nanobots. Lots of quirky, catchy stuff, especially Erase and Music Jail, Pt 1 & 2. My absolutely favourite, though, has to be Let Me Tell You About My Operation. A delirious Dixieland delight.
Also received my 2-disc version of Think Tank in the post today, so I'm all set for Blur's new album next week too. Time for a Special Editions marathon methinks!

Really liking what I've heard of Blur's new album The Magic Whip so far - classic Blur sounds but with a fresh twist. Especially loving Lonesome Street and Ong Ong, these two were instant favourites with me.
I'm also enjoying what I've heard of FFS immensely - Johnny Delusional is a fantastic track, as is P*ss Off. Two great groups combined equals great music in this instant.
Very much into the first few Weezer albums as well right now, especially the Blue album. Some of the most personal and relatable lyrics I've ever heard, set to fantastically catchy rock tunes and awesome guitar solos. No One Else in particular exemplifies this.
Oh, and of course I'm enjoying Noel Gallagher's stuff too. Chasing Yesterday is an excellent album, my favourite tracks being Riverman and You Know We Can't Go Back. Classic as ever from Noel.
I don't listen to much music outside of soundtracks to TV shows, films & video games, but I do listen to a radio show entitled 'The Goon Show'.
Even though it was made in the 1950's, my parents & I still find it's humour is hardly out-dated - it's hilarious! My Dad says he used to listen to it when it first aired on BBC Radio.
It's quite hard to explain about the show really, so I'll leave this link here:

Recently picked up some copies of Let's Dance & Never Let Me Down by David Bowie. Regardless of what is said about his 80s work there is some really good stuff if you know where to look (ie Time Will Crawl). Never Let Me Down might just be his most underrated album and easily one of my personal favourites.
Fuwy Fu, Fuwy Fu We Love Him He Hates You Fuwy Fu!

I'll have to agree with you on that new Belle and Sebastian record. I work in a record store, and it gets lots of airplay, along with If You're Feeling Sinister!
I have a voracious musical appetite. I play a variety of instruments and am always looking for new music to absorb. Lately, I've been really delving into and dissecting the music of some of my favourite bands - the Smiths, Elvis Costello, the Replacements, the Ramones and Paul Weller, just to name a few. I'm also giving different types of country music a chance - can't say I enjoy the mainstream "Bon Jovi" country, but what is commonly referred to as "alt-country" - stuff like Ryan Adams, Drive-By Truckers, Gram Parsons and Two Cow Garage are blowing my mind with just how great of songwriters they are - always an interesting story to be told.

I think I'm officially a Sparks fan now.
Bought Kimono My House a few weeks ago after their first collab tracks with Franz Ferdinand came out and just had Propaganda on earlier today. I wish I'd gotten into these guys sooner, because I love what I hear so far. Falsetto glam rock with intricate arrangements, absurd song titles and utterly random subject matters? Very yes please.

I've started listening to The Corrs again, I know that they have'nt made any music as a band since 2005, but I've always been a big fan, all of them are very talented musicians & singers indeed, all 3 ladies still look really pretty too, they're so lovely whenever I see them interviewed, I'm sure they are lovely in real life too, hopefully they will be back again someday with some new songs
I recently got Sharon Corr's 2 albums also: The Same Sun & Dream Of You, both are very good indeed, her voice is incredible, every bit as amazing as Andrea's
Andrej: ERS question: is there a guide out there with visual depictions of all the non-Awdry characters?

BoCo NWR: Most of them have pictures, in the ERS Guide. You can find it on the home page, underneath the ERS Library and Novel Library!

Armada Starscream: Anyone else kinda bummed that Ryan is mostly a goods engine, and not a passenger engine like his basis?
Apr 28, 2024 2:01:12 GMT
Harperman: Personally, no, honestly for me it didn't make a difference for his character
Apr 28, 2024 2:06:50 GMT
BoCo NWR: I agree with Harperman - I think Ryan being a goods engine isn't really focussed on much so I don't mind. Plus it means Daisy can be there, which is a plus

ThatERTLGuy: Thanks, Harperman! Out of 'The Big Three', I only need Brian Sibley's 'The TTTE Man' and 'TIOS: Its People, History and Railways'. Luckily the first one is cheap and easy to get, but sadly the second is the hardest to get for a good cost.
