I've been playing rather a lot of this series as of late, playing through the third game for the first time as of now (so for any spoilerific posts, it would be greatly appreciated if you used the appropiate tag on them ) and I've been talking about it a lot day to day as of late.
I actually first got a Sly Cooper game as far back as January 2011, which was the then recently released Sly Trilogy on PS3. I played and beat the first game in a matter of weeks (if that) moved onto Sly 2: Band of Thieves and got up to Episode 3's "Water Bug Run" mission...only to come to a complete standstill for months before that PS3 got the YLOD and died in August of that year.
Due to distractions caused by other games and other things I would not get back to the series for quite some time, the only reason I even did was because of Thieves in Time's impending release, that and a new friend of mine starting a really awesome Sly Cooper based role play with me, it all got me in the mood to get back into the series.
I have since rebeaten Sly 1, soured through Sly 2 after getting past Episode 3 and I'm now on Sly 3 as I said earlier.
Sly Raccoon was a fun game but for the really cool world it establishes it doesn't really do a great deal with it, it just felt like a classic Crash Bandicoot game in a new IP's clothing. Not inheriently a bad thing but Sly 2 does far more to distunguish Sly Cooper (as a series) as its own unique thing with its great balance of stealth and platforming and allowing Bentley and Murray to be more than just on hand fodder for mini games.
The story was also far superior to the first and the game as a whole just feels as though it had a lot more thought put into it. The only downsides for me (and one of these is purley a nitpick) are Carmelita's under whelming voice actress and Episode 3 as a whole.
Any other fans of the series present here on Sodor Island? ^^
