Many people like me want to have their voice on many matters, but unless you have the right emails comming into your inbox you never find out about them. This thread is one to spread the word about petitions, but not for conversation about them as many are on sensitive issues that many people may not wish to talk about in public areas for one reason or another. This means that any conversational posts in this thread will be deleted and only posts with direct links to petitions will kept. Are you inadvertently supporting the whaling industry?Dear Friend You may not know it, but you or your family could be inadvertently supporting the whaling industry. How? Well, WDCS has discovered that the whaling industry in Iceland is inextricably linked to part of the fishing industry. This means that your traditional Friday night fish from the chippy or the fillet you buy from the supermarket, could have been sourced by companies which are closely linked to organizations involved in whaling in Iceland. We need you to help us hit the whalers where it hurts most - in the wallet. Help us persuade supermarkets and fish suppliers in the UK to guarantee that they do not source from companies whose operations are directly or indirectly linked to whalers. We’ve written to the UK’s leading supermarkets and fish suppliers highlighting the links and seeking this guarantee, but we need your help to show how much people across the UK and around the world care about whales. Please sign our on-line petition today and tell all your friends and family about it. Click here to sign the petition Please help us fight the whalers with a donation. We promise that we will do everything in our power to expose the truth and stop whaling. Donate Now Thank you on behalf of whales. *Throws second hat into ring* Many of you will have read in the newspapers about the plan for an extra round of Premier League fixtures to be played abroad. I, for one, disagree with it completely. It would mess up the fixture list, and I can't see anything coming from it except the FA and TV companies getting bigger profits. It's as though they're actually selling English football. www.petitiononline.com/Rocky7/petition.htmlDon't ruin our national game.

On Wednesday 27th Feb, the Daily Mail launched a major UK wide campaign to 'Banish the Bag'. This is aimed to reduce the amount of plastic carrier bags given away in their millions by supermarkets every day, and ultimately rid the world of the huge mess created by this ugly plasctic.
Around 13 billion are given away every year It is estimated they will take 1000 years to degrade On average, we use them for about 20 minutes a day, before throwing them away Many end up at landfill sites Others litter the countryside, rivers and an incredible amount end up at sea They are a threat to wildlife, many animals, largely sae creatured have died because of them
These are just some of the statistics presented. I feel quite passionate about this, as I'm sure do many others. But things can be done. One town in Dveon has banned them completely and many shoppers use their own, lasting, woven bags. Other towns plan to follow. M&S yesterday announced a 5p charge for carrier bags. Tesco offer green clubcard points for re-using bags. These are good starts but more, I feel needs to be done. Other countries have taken a stand on this, and seems to have worked. In the UK we are one of the last to still be giving them away. The first thing we can do is stop unnecessary usage. i.e. do we really need a bag when they offer one? What will we do with it after? I certainly can often go without. It's not difficult to carry a few items out to the car without a bag.
So what are your views on this? Should we do more? Will you do more? If you want to add your voice, buy a Daily Mail, and fill out the small petition slip printed on one of the pages and send it off. It's become a real threat to the environment.

A friend of mine on WRF (EvilThomas) has created a "Shining Time Station" DVD petition, which can be found here. I don't know if it will work, but if it does, I think it would be awesome! So far there are only 3 signatures, mine being the third, so please consider adding your signature to the list because this show was an excellent kid's show, and a classic. In my opinion, it definitely deserves to be on DVD! Any help in getting this campaign to work would be deeply appreciated! [P.S. Terribly sorry I originally posted this in the wrong thread!]

Stop the Scrapping of the 10p Tax BandThis is only for residents of the United Kingdom and its terretories and outlying regions. Gordon Brown has decided to do a Robin Hood in reverse with his final budget as Chancellor and many families like our own wont be able to cope with the tax situation as it will be. In total about 10 million people in the UK will be worse off with tax being doubled for low income earners. Please sign this petition to stop the abolition of the 10p per £1 tax band for earners of less than £18,000 every year! petitions.pm.gov.uk/10penceband
I can't say this one any better than what was said on the homepage of the website, note this is for UK citizens only. The Gurkha Justice CampaignGurkhas are fighting for Justice. They want the same terms and conditions as their UK and Commonwealth counterparts. Britain has had no greater friends than the Gurkhas. They have served all across the world in the defence of our Country for nearly 200 years. Over 45,000 died in the two World Wars as part of the British Army. They are still fighting in the British Army today. You may have seen in the media that the Gurkhas have been fighting in Parliament and the Courts. Step by step, things are getting better - but there is a long way to go. On Tuesday 30th September, the High Court ruled their treatment had been unlawful in terms of the right to live in the UK if they retired before 1997. Following that fantastic High Court decision, the Government has to change the law on how it treats Gurkhas. We demand the full, fundamental change in law that will allow all retired Gurkhas the right to live here. By signing up below you will be expressing your support for all Gurkhas. You will be signing our petition, and we will be able to contact you in the future as we mount the largest ever campaign to get them the Justice that they deserve. Join me in the campaign: together, we can finally right this wrong. Joanna Lumley www.gurkhajustice.org.uk

Kingston Flyer Petition: A famous train and railway in New Zealand is in great financial trouble and is in danger of closing. Having already been saved once, it would seem such bas shame and a waste to see her go again.l It really is a most beautiful train, in some of the most epic settings in the world. As such, there is a facebook group to join in order to raise support for the cause. Here: www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=120001329196And here's a video to show the history and amazing splendour and pure nostalgic charm that is the Kingston Flyer:

Cut the Kill Rate at the Lost Dogs Home (Victoria, Australia). Every year thousands of helpless dogs and cats are killed when they could be easily be rehomed. The LDH makes it hard for people who have lost their pets to reclaim them; everything is done behind closed doors. The public are being duped into giving money to a false charity, and unknowingly supporting animal cruelty! Here is some more detailed information (warning: some of this may be upsetting): lostdogshomeexposed.webs.com/Here is the petition: www.thepetitionsite.com/1/cut-the-kill-rate-at-the-lost-dogs-homePlease sign this petition to help save companion animals who deserve so much better!

This isn't exactly a petition, but I hope people won't mind if I post this here. A few weeks ago, Frank Woodruff Buckles, America's last WWI veteran, passed on at the age of 110. I've been following his story for a while now and it's one I'm fairly passionate about. I made a quick slideshow video of him, available on YouTube here:
If you go to this video, then click on the first link in the description, you'll find the Kickstarter account for the Buckles documentary Pershing's Last Patriot. For those of you who don't know, Kickstarter is a great website where donations of no less than 1 dollar can be given to a movie project, via Amazon.com. If the goal budget of said budget is not met by its projected deadline, than no money is sent in and no transaction will have occurred. PLEASE DONATE TO THIS FILM, AS THE DEADLINE IS APRIL 1ST, 11:11AM. It's unlikely that it will reach its deadline, but hope is hope. At current, there is a bill, the Frank Buckles WWI Memorial Act, that is being debated and worked on, but the foundation to create this memorial, regardless of government help, accepts donations from anyone. Visit their website to donate and learn: wwimemorial.org/ It's a shame that the US government is pouring its money into new wars, instead of investing a fraction of that money to build a memorial. I know this isn't an actual petition and it's more for donations, but I hope no one will mind: this is an issue that is very near and dear to my heart. One of the issues he was fighting up to his death was the fight to get an official, national monument for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who lost their lives for one of the most significant wars in modern history.

I have 4 petition plans 1. Theodore Tugboat DVD Campaign(which wouldn't be so hard seeing classic media makes DVDs for everything!) 2. Led Zeppelin Reunion DVD (There are are rumors about this getting released, but this would be a good one anyway) 3. Thomas Seasons 1-5 on a DVD Collection for the US (were they only doing the early years compilation, come on, HIT!) 4. Getting the Railway Series Released in their unedited volumes in the US. All 42 books! I hope to make these petitions sometime soon!
