I'd say my hobbies are a bit varied, but here they are of the top of my head:
Television: I am a great fan of TV, particularly UK television from the 50s to the present. Whether it's programmes, names of channels, transmission dates, I find it to be a great interest to me and I often keep lists regarding those.
Comedy: Like TV, comedy is another great interest - UK or US. I will admit that I like some more than others, but I think that humour is one of the most vital parts of my life. My favourites include: Last of the Summer Wine, Steptoe and Son, Tony Hancock, Please Sir, On the Buses, Friends, Fraiser, Everybody Loves Raymond and many others
DVDs: Before these, it was videos, but collecting DVDs is another of my hobbies. Sometimes it can be costly, but at least it's more longlasting than clothes, cigarettes, alcohol, etc. I also collect magazines of 'DVD Review', of which I nearly have 25 so far
Other people's interests:
Believe it or not, I find myself becoming interested in other people's interests. Such as CTX's interest in The Travelling Wilburys' and Chris Burrell's interest in The Smiths. I don't know if it is a good thing or bad thing, but I find it just happens accidently

Any other interests? Oh plenty.
Obviously, I the Railway Series is a big interest of mine, and I enjoy discussing it, all aspects of it.
Preserved railways of course is quite a big part of my life. I used to volunteer regularly, and though I'm still a member, haven't done so for a few years sadly, but that's going to change soon as I'm about to get back into it. I Love railways, my main interest lies with standard gauge steam. Narrow gauge is interesting, though for me has a completely different appeal to standard gauge. I used to station work mostly, but want to branch out from that and try other departments.
Music - I was a musician in my younger years, and though I didn't play anything for a few years, I am now a trombonist and play in a brass band.
History - Enjoy learning about world history, particularly British history. Was more interested in more recent history (last 100 years) but now interested in just about any era.
Countryside - Generally love walking in the countryside, and having a dog is a good excuse to go out. I love Britain in all seasons, though especially autumn. Thinking about taking horse-riding lessons next year.
Traveling - Getting a real thirst for travel and want to see the world, and already have big trip ahead of me. I love finding about places as well.
Politics/current affairs - Have always been interested in what's going on - I can't see why people couldn't be really. I remember back at school people would ask if I saw such and such last night, but my reply was that I was watching (what used to be) the Nine O'Clock News.
I guess that's mostly it. Better go, it's almost time for the Ten O'Clock News. ;0

Well, let's see now... Interests Besides The Railway Series... Re: Railways! It's always been a pleasure to be associated with the invention that spurned the industrial revolution and in fact it was Thomas The Tank Engine who introduced me to them in the first place! Anyway, ever since June 1997 (which ironically enough is also when I learnt of the Reverend Wilbert's death, reading and issue of STEAM RAILWAY at Manchester Airport just prior to a holiday in Portugal), I've been simply glued to the railways in every respect. I could go into detail about their history really...but I'd need more time and some support from Christian Wolmar to really get the story across for you all! Re: Video 125I think some of you may have noticed this in the Railway Realism section of this forum but, ever since purchasing HST Great West in 2004, I've been hooked onto this unique and even quite pioneering Driver's Eye View Company. The way they bring the various parts of our railway network to life is simply incredible and they choose some of the most fantastic music scores to go with it (HST Great West, The Flying Scotsman, Midland Mainline, TransPenninexpress, Connex Express and Emnterprise in particular!). Re: LiteratureReally another result of my interest in Thomas and the North Western Railway fleet, I suppose I've been a lover of literature from the beginning. It's been a great inspiration for me over the years and there's a great many people who have taken my fancy - Roald Dahl, J.K.Rowling, Jacqueline Wilson, Terry Pratchett, to name a few. It's also identified me as a creative person generally and I've always had intentions to do some thorough publication at some point... But more on that another time! Warm Regards As Always, MRHloco

well apart from thomas and railways, my other main interest is anything about the r/m/s titanic. i dont know what it is about the legendary liner, theres a sort of spell about her, i dont think even someone with a heart of stone can't be touch by her tragic story. i am one of millions of titanic buffs who could tell you absortuntly anything about her and something i should ask, are there any other titanic buffs on the forum. im currently serching for titanic adventure out of time, looks a great game, very dedicated to the design, every deck every room is accurate. it's not just the titanic, only a titanic buff would know about her not as famous sister ship the H/M/H/S britannic that was the key, the last hope for white star, supposingly larger, longer and more safer then the titanic, but ironically was converted into a hospital ship, lets say the biggest hostpital in history and it sailed in the mediterainian. however the white star liners were actacted to bad luck and ill omen, the H/M/H/S britannic struck a mine, it would suvive this easily, like being bothered with a fly, but the time, 9.00 am meant that the doors werent controlled by the bridge but by men power, so the ship sank much faster and unfairly. it's all so interesting for me.

HELP!
Is there any radio control fans here? Am looking for a four channel transmitter and receiver for a RC plane that i have bought. It needs a little TLC before it'll be truely ready to fly but it has a little hole in the underside of one wing and that is it. It is a training plane of a high wing design similar to the British Taylorcraft Austers, Piper Cubs and the modern Cessna training planes you see flying today. I bought it as i haven't flown model planes for many years and have always wanted to have my own. But i do lack the experience and want to get as much info as poss from others and any tips you may all have. Am selling my petrol rc car on ebay to pay for transmitter and plane. Have enjoyed the car and had some really good times with it. Now i want to move onto flying. Any help and advice is much appreciated.
I also enjoy tv programs though most of the old classics like Only Fools and Horses, Dad's Army, Goodnight Sweetheart and My Family. There are several films that i like: The Titfield Thunderbolt, Lake Placid Transformers The Lake House (i've always fancied Sandra Bullock. Have told my wife i'd swap her if the chance ever arose. She just laughed!) Battle of Britain A Bridge Too Far Where Eagles Dare Plus lots of other films. I went through a stage of watching and taping old war movies. On tape i have the likes of Divebomber, Above us the Waves, Sink the Bismarck, Dambusters, Reach for the Skies, Halls of Montezuma, Dunkirk and others. What annoys me are the people who say they are going to make a film of a book then change it. What is the point? I enjoyed the film Jurassic Park. Good film but enjoyed the book just slightly more. Bought the second book as soon as it came out. Loved it. It was fabulous. Saw the film at the cinema and detested it. It only had a passing nod to the book and was aweful. It should of been Jurassic Park: The Messed Up World! But hey, that's my opinion.
I do enjoy collecting things that are railway orientated, usually books but i have one or two other pieces in my collection. I also have a fairly large collection of Biggles books. Am just over halfway to getting the entire collection. So far i have 50. In my opinion the WW1 stories and the stories set between WW1 and WW2 are the better ones to read. The WW2 stories are also enjoyable but i have an interest in the 1920s and 1930s period in terms of aircraft and railways. Despite the depression Britain and America (not to mention other countries) were going through i still see it as a glorious age when you see what achievements and discoveries were made during those decades. After the WW2 stories some of the stories lack a little bit of spark and some are quite boring. There are exceptions like Biggles Breaks the Silence, Biggles: Foreign Legionnaire and Biggles Buries A Hatchet. The books with the short stories in are quite hit and miss. Some really good followed by a story that feels the same as another short story.
I do enjoy a little bit of sport. Was never 'sporty' at school but always tried my best. I enjoy football though i don't really follow any teams as such. I like to watch cricket and golf too. I do play Crown Green Bowls. No, it isn't for old people. That's more flat green and yes there is a difference! Lol. I played for my County junior team though for a number of years i haven't played as i have been too busy pursuing a dream job (never found...YET!), pursuing women (that has cost me a lot in money, fuel and tyres for my several cars!) and, when free, chasing the odd steam loco around the country (very rare indeed!). Have started to play for two teams this year and look forward to the start of the season proper in a couple of weeks time.
