Metallica is one of my favorate bands, their newest album is a good come back from their previous album. I haven't heard the entire thing but what I have heard sounds kinda like the black album

I like Metallica also, but I also like Megadeth. I've listened to alot of Megadeth lately, but I'm not going to go through the whole saga of: Metallica vs. Megadeth because both bands are awesome.
The Black Album is probably Metallica's best album, along with: And Justice for All, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightening and Kill 'em All.
Death Magnectic is alright, so is St Anger. Load and Reload although there's the odd good song they're not brilliant albums as the first five.

One of the best, if not the best ever. With the exception of the St Anger album, I pretty much enjoy all of their material. Even the Load/Reload era (they even have a song called Ronnie ). But nothing tops the original albums up to and including the Black Album. Just an amazing sound that others can be influenced by, but never top. And, as an aspiring bassist myself, I can safely say that Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) is the sickest thing ever done on a bass.

To me Metallica is not the best metal band ever (that trophy belongs to Iron Maiden) but it is the second & since the 80s has come up with some of the best metal songs I know. These include
I made myself my own "Best Of" cd for long car rides & features some of my personal favourites & includes;
Frantic Master Of Puppets One Fuel My Apocalypse Trapped Under Ice Motorbreath Enter Sandman Sanitarium Wherever I May Roam Helpless I Disappear
I don't play bass guitar but personally I prefer Jason over Cliff & Robert. I am actually a drum & often when ask who my influences & idols are Lars is often one of the first 3 I think of.

I don't know if anyone has been reading recent news, but apparently there's talks of Metallica planning a tour of the Big Four of Thrash consisting of: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax but nothing as of yet has been comfirmed.
I think this would be awesome, but I reckon there'll be some disagreements between all four bands as too who would be the main headliner. I also read about two weeks ago or so, that James Hetifield thought it would a good idea for something like this.
Also railsimrocks, any chance you could change the thread name to 'Metallica & Megadeth'. Saves me making a thread for discussions about Megadeth (if they're are any Megadeth fans on SiF), and plus also Megadeth's frontman Dave Mustaine was in Metallica for a brief time before he was kicked out and replaced with Kirk Hammett and had co-written four songs with Metallica on Kill 'em All and Ride the Lightening (as credits on both albums).

Metallica's my favourite heavy metal band. "Master Of Puppets" is the greatest heavy metal album ever made.

The best thing Metallica ever did was kick Dave Mustaine out. If they hadn't there wouldn't have been Megadeth.
I love Metallica, but Megadeth is definitely better.

I'd have to agree with you there. Although I do love Metallica and appreciate how they changed and exposed the genre of thrash, The riffing and technicality of Megadeth just seems to be miles ahead in my book. The solos and intricacies of Albums such as "Peace Sells....But Who's Buying?" and "Rust in Peace" are unmatched in my opinion.
Let's also not forget Mustaine had a big hand in writing a few Metallica classics himself such as "Jump in the Fire", "Phantom Lord", "Ride the Lightning", "The Four Horseman" and "Metal Militia".
Despite the revolving door of player's they've had, the band has remained fairy consistent sounding due to Mustaine's contributions, and they've had some pretty A list guys playing with them over the years. The current line up look pretty promising too and I'm looking forward to seeing them live once they come around to NY. I've seen the them twice already, but not since the latest line up change.

Yes. Metallica is one of my favorite metal bands, but Megadeth is the best. I love Metallica's songs like Master Of Puppets, For Whom The Bell Tolls, and countless others, but Hangar 18, Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, and many more from Megadeth are the best metal songs ever.
