Spyro, a little, purple dragon who first appeared on the scene in '98, making his debut on the good ol' PSX.
So popular is Spyro, that each and every one of his titles has quickly risen to Platinum status (even "Enter The Dragonfly").
So yeah, if anyone has any memories of the classic Spyro games from the good old days and stuff, then here is a thread to cater to your sheep flaming needs! (And if you really, REALLY want to, you can talk about the more recent "Legend" series. Apologies if you actually like those games though.)

Spyro the Dragon IMHO was popular in it's own time in the early days of Playstation and can be considered like a mascot to the PS consoles back then. But after playing Enter the Dragonfly and other recent debuts a few years back it felt like he had his day. I'm a bit surprised as to why they made ETD platinum because the game was very glitchy and in some cases rushed and hard to match the spirit of the first two Spyro games; laden with gnorks, theives, butterflies and enemies that used to fight each other! Overall Spyro the Dragon was big cheese back in the early days of Playstation's infacy unless the recent releashes have the right chemistry again.

Insomniac's original trilogy is gold, no question, the first game in particular.
Despite the original game pretty much being purely about collecting the gems scattered around, as opposed to the variety of things to do in all games following, I actually feel that it was in no way a weak point. I mean, it was all about the exploration across big worlds, and the challenge of finding your way through them and every last gem, and that's why I liked it. For such a simple concept, it was so well executed. And I also still think to this day that the game had the best looking and designed levels. Wheras in all games after, as great as they are (and I do think they really are great), they kind of lost the magic of the first.
Spyro 2 is a real accomplishment. What it managed to pull off so well was the interlinking of everything you had to do in each level, as opposed to Spyro 3's rather cheap portals to mini-games and such scattered around. The game IS fun, even if rather different to the first.
Spyro 3 is a great game in itself, albeit an almost completely different experience to the previous titles, what with all the new playable characters, skateboarding challenges and everything. The roaming areas are VERY closed in and were quite short this time round. Although the amount to do in the game kind of makes up for that in a way. A VERY different game. It's definitely Spyro, although a long way away from where things began. Definitely one of my favourite games ever though. The amount and variety of things to do Insomniac packed in makes it a very enjoyable game.
Insomniac's original Spyro trilogy I don't think could ever be beaten, hands down.

I haven't played that many Spyro games...certainly NONE of the trilogy, and I've only played one of the "Legend" games.
I really do like "A Hero's Tale", though. Its one of my all time favourite games.

My second favorite after Crash Bandicoot. I really enjoyed playing Spyro when I was at my cousin's house. I remember trying to rescue all the dragons, though I never gotten that far. And I never made it to the bonus level. It was very fun to play, though Gnasty Gnorc was hard to defeat. When my cousins lost the disk, I bough them Spyro 2 and 3. I enjoyed them as well and I defeated the final bosses a few times. I know they don't have the games anymore, but I still like Spyro.

My favourite games from this series are Gateway to Glimmer, and Year of the Dragon. Best times of my lifewere spent playing those two . I thought, after that, they just seemed to lose the plot, especially in the new games. In all honesty, I think the plot, the graphics, and the dialogue could be greatly improved, however, they're still great games for young gamers, and fully recommended

Spyro, Spyro, Spyro. Seeking for those little creeps called gems, defeating gnorcs, rinocs and all kind of creatures.
Now I think they have mess up a bit the saga adding a fantasy-like tale. I prefer that little purple dragon who catches gems, tackles, splits fire, rescues frozen dragons and dragon eggs, chases thieves, tries to fly, etc.
And the best ones for me were the first and the third.

Old fan of Spyro here too, recently got the "Legend of" series and I can say I'm quite pleased with them. Sure, it's a stones throw from the classic games on the PS1, but I can live with that. Cynder makes for quite an interesting character too, no doubt she should have been in the original games. Regarding the classics, 1 was excellent. I certainly loved, as Jim522 has said, collecting the Gems and such. Made the game far more playable than say Tomb Raider or Gran Turismo. 2 was ok, I just can't stand Hunter. And 3, I'd say some of it was a flop. 1 was a much darker, grizzly game to me. Perhaps it's because I played that one first? I'm a bit surprised as to why they made ETD platinum because the game was very glitchy and in some cases rushed. Play the gamecube version, said issues were sorted out. Add to that the significantly lower loading time.

The one thing I remember about Spyro, that's unique to any other game I've played, is that, without fail, the game makes me queasy. and not in that figurative, "This Sucks," sort of way, but in a very literal, headache, stomach-churn sort of way. I think it's partially the soundtrack...lots of crystallic tingling.
I don't know if it's still the same way with the newer games, but I know the early games were like that...
A shame, because the games themselves weren't that bad.

Spyro 1 2 and Year of the dragon were probs the best on Playstation along wiv crash 2 and crash warped
I also like it when they brought Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot together in the two GBA games Spyro fusion and Crash fusion i also like it when they brought Mario and Sonic together on Wii in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games!

Suprised no one has mentioned that Spyro is going to be a new 3D film as of next year. Although, be warned, it's based upon the recent "Legend of" series, so Nostalgia people won't be pleased.
Completed 2/3 of the legend games so far, and even though it's changed alot, (SPARX CAN TALK? WHERE IS GNASTY GNORC? etc...) they are still as good as the other games in my opinion. One note of credit to them is that the loading times are non-existant, the controls are good and could be considered a seperate franchise altogether.

Loved Spyro. As with others, Spyro for me was up there with Crash. So many memories!

I remember fondly the days when our family bought the original Playstation. While I was tops at Crash Bandicoot, Spyro was the the game my younger sister was able to play and master.
We all loved the original trio of games, but after that I lost interest, and my sister got turned off soon after.
But for a little while, we had some good memories of friendly competition.

Ah yes these games were some of my all-time favourites. I still own them and have beaten 2 and 3 countless times. As for 1... I haven't. I can't find everything, okay? Dx Me and friend often restart and play it again on the few times I get to see her.

I was aware of Spyro as a kid as the earliest memory was I think it was my cousins playing it (though it might be Crash Bandicoot, I'm not sure), and I remember seeing commercials a lot as a kid, but I never grew up with them as my family only grew up with Nintendo. We would get a PS2 in the mid 2000s, but never got Spyro. It wasn't until a few months ago that I bought the remake for the Switch. It was fun, but gave up due to the flying mechanics being clunky for me.
