I'm surprised nobody opened up a thread on this yet!
This thread is opened to the "Railroad Tycoon" game series.

Well I've played two on a demo on the sega dreamcast, but three's my favorite. Track building is half of the fun, the music is great, I'd recommend it.

I have both versions of " Railroad Tycoon II". I got the third one as a present in Christmas '03, but it wouldn't work on my computer, so I had to get a refund. But I enjoy playing the two games that I've got, as it provides me with some idea on how the Fat Controller actually runs his railway when he isn't attending an accident ceremony. My favourite mission in particular is the " When Walls Fall Down" scenario on the first game, which focuses on building a railway in Eastern Europe after the Cold War has ended. I also like the music, which helps you feel as though you're actually working on a railway thanks to its railway-like beat, and the locomotives, which are all real locomotives.

I remember playing some of the Railroad Tycoon games when I was younger. I never could get the hang of it, and the games were often hard for me to play. I agree, the music is very railway-esque and catchy at times.

I rarely know better about this game, however, I do have Railroad Tycoon 2: The Three Continents. I used to play that version about 9 years ago. I used to use the sandbox version to create my own landscapes and run my own trains. Then two years later, I got Railroad Tycoon 2: Platinum. It has more scenarios. I also like to make my own landcapes and designs, especially when I make it that the locomotives are like the Thomas characters. Also, I liked the guy who was narrating the game and scenarios openings. I liked his style.

I have Railroad Tycoon 2: Platinum. I used to spend hours playing that game, it was addicting like Sim City (I am a Sim City Fanatic!). I used to get a really good railway going that dominated the U.S. then it would all just go down the toilet and I could never manage to get out of the red. Lots of fun. I always wanted a larger selection of locomotives. =P
There are way to many Tycoon games now...

I grew up playing Railroad Tycoon 3, one of my favorite childhood games.

BTW, I made a custom RT3 map not too long ago. Here's the link: link. I based it off the Touhou games and the goals are as follows: BRONZE: Connect 7 cities within 30 years. SILVER: Haul 1500 loads of passengers within 30 years. GOLD: On top of the Silver requirements, connect all 29 cities AND haul 900 loads of goods WITHIN 25 years. This map has an assortment of American, European, and Worldly locomotive and is compatible with the fanmade 1.06 update.

I agree, the music is very railway-esque and catchy at times. I would just mess around in the sandbox when I was a kid, I even played with the editor; it was all very fun.
