how many of you here read Asterix books? I think they are hilarious, from the fights to the reinforced Stereotypes (German WWI helmets, Spanish holidays, Britons watching rugby & drinking hot water with milk).

I liked Asterix. I have the books and videos. Asterix Vs Caesar was my fave. Obelix was great. There have been live action films. One had John Baddeley's voice for Getafix. There's another Asterix aniamted film coming out. I've read that Sean Astin will be in it. First time an American has been involved with Asterix.

The Asterix books are just priceless. The latest one (Falling sky) felt rather dry and stretched out with alot of full page panels, but most of the books are brilliant!

They were at their best when Rene Goscinny was the writer, I think. Some truly genius humour can be seen. As well as the obvious slapstick and puns, there are a lot of allusions to art and literature. For instance, there's one panel featuring the unfortunate pirates on a raft which is based on Theodore Gericault's painting The Raft of the Medusa. The captain comments, "We've been framed, by Jericho!"

I love this comic, the humor, the drawings, everything, The only films that I've seen are the twelve tasks and Asterix and Obelix. I've read most of the books, from the Goscinny-Udzero era and some of the new ones, by the way, is he still doing them now?

I recently re read Asterix & The Magic Carpet, great story & I still have William Rushton's audiobook reading on tape, well worth listening to,if you can get a copy, the animated films are great,Asterix In Britain & Asterix & Caesar are the best,I got the animated 6 disc film collection DVD set back in 2008 for about £15,nowadays they are quite rare & hard to come by,but Amazon may have some second hand copies available.
Rene Goscinny sadly passed away in 1977,he was only 51 years old, however Albert Uderzo is still with us,he is now 87 years old & still working on the Asterix books & since 2013 a man called Jean Yves-Ferri worked on the 35th volume: Asterix & The Picts which I have not read,I believe the last one I read was Asterix & The Actress but that was back when I was in college in 2001,do'nt really know where that book is now,I may have to get another copy.
I have the Asterix 2015 calendar on my wall & a rubber keyring of Asterix & Obelix that I got for christmas & all this info came from wikipedia, hope it all helps.
