Does anybody remember this classic children's tv puppet created and starred with Harry Corbett then on to his son Matthew?
I haven't seen much of it in recent years, but hopefully it would be something I would like to watch again

I remember it well. The Matthew Corbett times were the best in my opinion. The later series with Richard weren't as good mainly becasue he was no Matthew Corbett and things went further downhill when they introduced a cat called Miki.
I remember when Scampi was introduced my borther didn't like him but I thought he was good but then again I was only 6 when he was introduced.

Wasn't Sooty another product of Britt Allcroft?
I've got old episodes of The Sooty Show from either the late 1980s or early 1990s recorded on various tapes upstairs...... accompanied by S1 and S2 of Thomas the Tank Engine amongst other shows......
Can't think of much else right now.....

Wasn't Sooty another product of Britt Allcroft? If I'm right, Gullane bought Sooty around the time that Matthew left the series (perhaps a bit after). Seeing as Gullane was bought by HIT, I'd think they own the rights to Sooty now. Then again, is he even still on the telly? Excluding Peter Kay's Amarillo video, of course

Ah, Sooty. I agree that I'll always cherish the Matthew Corbett episodes, but some of the newer ones were alright, to be fair. The SOOTY HEIGHTS Series brought back two "forgotten" characters from the old Sooty Series - Ramsbottom the Snake and Butch the Bulldog. Then the next Sooty Series (The one with Miki's debut) was so-so, except that Butch was redesigned to be more friendly-looking but still remain his troublesome behaviour. But what put me off the "New" Sooty was that, for no explination whatsoever, the puppets were changed dramatically (Poor Butch looks extreamly watered down and Sooty and Sweep look a bit raggy!) and they got someone else to do Soo's voice. Sad, really, but that's what we have the classic eps for - to watch and remember ^_^

Anyhow, Sooty became a bit brighter over the years (it was in a programme once to celebrate his 50th b/day, he got more yellow as the years went by). Oh yeah, anyone remember the CiTV week when they were celerating the 50th birthday? I started watching Sooty when he was in that shop, during the show "Sooty and Co." I might as well post the lyrics. Hey, ho It's Sooty and co. Everybody say hello (hello) With Sooty, and Sweep A panda called Soo And little cousin Scampy too There'll be fun galore With the terrible four Just you wait and see It's Sooty and company! Sooty and company!

I used to have a video of 'The Sooty Show',but I can't remember what exactly it was called, I can't remember the first story, the second story had ghosts and Matthew being scared and the third episode had Matthew using a camera
Could someone shed light to what it was called?

It's 'Sooty Wants a Pet'. It has three episodes; Sooty Wants a Pet: Where Sweep trains to be a police dog The Unreal Ghostbusters: Where the gang lock Matthew in a haunted hotel in a fish and chip deal On Camera: Where Sooty and Matthew make a story with Matt's new camera. Quite funny too.

Would it be possible of you to put clips of them somewhere as I haven't seen for years?
Also, was there a song Matthew sings about how ghosts don't exist and Sweep appearing as a ghost?

I vaguely remember an episode where Sweep (but I could well be wrong) got stuck up a tree and Sooty saved him, later being congratulated by the fire brigade. I'm not sure if that's from the "new" or classic series, but at the moment it's the only ep I can remember.

I don't remember much about the original Sooty show as it was a bit out of my time. I do have a few pre-recorded tapes though.
I mainly grew up watching"Sooty and Co" and I still enjoy that now. I haven't really seen "Sooty Heights" or the current version.

I grew up with Sooty & Co too - I have most episodes on tape. Sooty Heights wasn't the most awful thing I ever saw - Richard Cadell wasn't awful, he appeared on the show in the 80's (anyone remember the hair?? It seemed to me though that he was just trying to be too much like Matthew - and nobody could carry that off (in my opinion). During the span of Sooty & Co my favourite episodes were probably "Exploding Buns" and "White Elephant". Ah, what a great show.

Seeing as it's been a year since anyone's posted about our fave magical bear, might as well update y'all on what's been happening with Sooty and Co. From October 2007, Hit Entertainment had put the rights for Sooty up for sale for reasons being, according to Toonhound, that the American Audience wouldn't "get" our sense of humour. Tch... Fortunately, though, Sooty's landed back on his paws as Richard Cadell, who took over from Matthew Corbett, has been kind enough to buy the bear that bought his fame, promising a new stage show and TV Series to come. Times Article on these happy news found here. So, Sooty's had a fair number of ups and downs himself. Now if only we knew someone who could buy the rights to Thomas...one can dream, eh?

That sounds like great news to me, being a casual fan of Sooty myself, my favourite Sooty era was in the mid 90s with Matthew Corbett made by Granada Television; my least favourite was the animated version of Sooty c1999 but at least they gave Sweep a voice.
There were a few unique episodes of the show that impacted on me because sometimes the puppets' feet are revealed including one episode where Matthew competes in an election with Jeremy Beadle and Sweep can be seen standing bipedal in the shopping centre.
