I pretended that I had an aid in G-Chat once, called Snevlin. Donna was disappointed to know that he wasn't real.
Seriously, I would NOT like to have an aid of any kind. I'm trying to beat my autism, not promote it!

Well, at least this doesn't make me the only one here who has it On a serious note, mind, I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome the day I was born. Sometimes, espicially in my younger years, it was very difficult for me as I was shy, quiet and generally liked to keep myself to myself. But now, I don't see it as big a problem anymore. Heck, since I started studying it more and understanding my quirks, I feel a lot better and know how to deal with it. And despite the fact I have Autism, I still try and get involved with others around me, espicially now that I'm mingling with crowds in Uni. And a little helpful advice to everyone here who feels that AS maybe a curse to them. Don't worry about it. I've known people who have, or have shown signs of, Ausitm and most of them have quite happy lives because they're surrounded by people they enjoy being with and who care for them. Some of them, I found out, even have a soft spot for Thomas, too, which surprised me a bit! BTW, following what oj said about Speilburg, I came across this intresting web page: FAMOUS PEOPLE WITH AUTISTIC TRAITS - a rather good site which diagnoses Fictional, real, historical and contemporary celebrities that show signs of AS. Quite a good find actually, as it'll make you think next time you see them on TV!

I don't think I have it, I've got intrests in Trains, Computers, Science and whatnot. And I show musical talent and don't often know what people are on about, but I think I'm just crazy

My younger sister is autistic and she has an aid. I had no idea that any other people had them too.
I never realized how many autistic people were on this forum.

Like Ci Fi said most might be hypocondriacs, its like on Myspace. Every-one says they drink but not smoke. Because smoking isn't good for you, but people will think more of you if you can hold your drink.

I've got it too, I'm fully diagnosed and everything, it's ultimately been the cause of a great deal of bullying in my school years, but i've put all that behind me now and get on with life, which for me is pretty difficult as i'm very shy and withdrawn but needless to say I try my best with i suppose is all anyone can do.

I was diagnosed with Aspergers 8 years ago. when we found out, the headmaster and special needs teacher said; "Oh, what's that???." At the same time I was diagnosed with Dyspraxia (meaning I have lax ligements) and 2 years ago i was diagnosed with scotopic sensitivity, meaning I have to wear tinted glasses to read properly.
When I took my GCSE's, I was allowed extra time within the exam because i am unable to write as quickly as the other kids.

I've got Asperger Syndrome. I was diagnosed at the age of 4 with Autisum and 1 year later I was then diagnosed with AS. My parents told me that I had it when I got my GCSE results after I had left school which I'm glad they told me then as I was going through a lot of bullying during my time in comprehensive school.

I show some symptoms, but I do not think I am an "Asperger's Syndrome Sufferer". I sure have an obsessive nature when it comes to some things, particularly my model railways. I spend a number of hours researching the railways then building the models. It may also explain why I have always had problems with writing. I always seemed to get rather severe writer's cramp. However, I can type at a keyboard for hours on end. Not sure why that is.
Then again, it could always be a case of hypochondria, as many of these symptoms are also "normal" behaviour for children, and in some cases are signs of "gifted" or "talented" children. Perhaps one give-away in my case was that I was somewhat socially retarded. I wasn't sure when people were making jokes or being sarcastic. I took alot of things literally, and I often got in trouble for it, because people thought I was being a smart-alec.

Yup, I have it too After knowing what it was, it explained my behaviour during my younger years totally, but hey, I like to see it as a part of me, so its not a bad thing. And remember guys and gals, if Bill Gates can have it and can still grow to be the richest man in the universe then that goes to show we are not dimwits xD Seriously, if people realise you have Aspergers and calls you stupid, that counts as racism, and can be dealt with, use that info to your advantage

Another famous person who had it xD "xD" is a smiley I use often, the "x" are the eyes closed, and the "D" is a open smile, this combo is used to indicate that I am laughing or giggling, its basically not one of the smileys on the post maker like these... ;D anyway, back on topic xD

We're all seriously off topic now! Anywho, my Dad doesn't even care about my Asperger's one bit. My Grandmother used to care and worry about me having it, but thanks to my Dad, she doesn't take it as a threat! In fact, my Dad just simply thinks it's how I act and I can get cured over it over time. Because of it, I do not like how he tries to control me, take away my possesions, make me do certian things that I simply cannot do and all that! He doesn't care one bit about my having it, and it's making me miserable

As far as I'm aware, Einstein had dyslexia, which could also be classed as affecting social endeavours, but not Aspergers or Autism.

Most Savants have autism. This leads to their spontaneous abilities.
