Any old Animorph fans out there in the audience? I just recently began rereading the series after hearing updated versions of 'The Invasion' and 'The Visitor' are going to be released in 2011. Hopefully that means some sort of reboot or other new project is on the horizon although most of the fansites seem doubtful.
For those unfamiliar. Animorphs is a youth series of novels written by K.A. Applegate. The series started in the mid 90s and had a cheesy life action spin off on Nick. Animorphs was about five kids and one alien kid who have the power to turn any any animal they can touch but only for two hours at a time or they are trapped forever as that animal. They secretly fight a war against a secret alien invasion of earth wear the enemy could literally be anyone.
My favorite books are the David Trilogy, Megamorphs 1: The Andalite's Gift, and the Andalite Chornicles. My favorite characters were Tobias and Ax.

Hah! I've just began rereading the series! I love these books.
I've read each book, but never had the chance to read all of them in order since adding the final book to my collection. It's been a few years so I'm pretty rusty on alot of the details.
What's going on with the "reboot", anyway? So far, all I've heard about the rerelease of the books is that they're going to have those 3-D covers that can have moving pictures? This sounds cool and all, but I am not about to buy another 63 books just for nice new covers. Apparently it's going to be a test for a new series... which... seems... okay, I guess? I kinda like my Animorphs canon the way it is, though. So... sequel series where book 54 left off, or complete reboot?

I'm not going to rush out to get the released books either although I'm curious to see what 'updating' will do. I agree that there are several things and references which have not aged well but it seems like completely modernizing the series would hurt it. Cellphones would be so complicated in Animorphs. According to www.hiracdelest.com/ this rerelease is simply a test to see if a new generation can get interested. It may also be a test for a 55th book or a 2nd Animorphs series. If it happened the releases would be much slower and fewer. Applegate and Grant say its Scholastic's decision and nothing has been decided.
