Here's a thread for discussion of the "Magic: The Gathering" card game (aka "Magic").
In this thread shall be discussion of tournaments (PTQ's, Pro Tour, etc.), environment changes (Extended, Standard, etc.), deck construction tips and tricks, and various other topics pertaining to Magic.

I know I'm not the only one around here who likes this card game, and I figured why not see who else on SiF plays! ;D Casual players and competitive players are welcome here! Tell us how you got into the game, what kind of player are you (Timmy, Johnny, Spike, etc.), and what decks you like playing with (either TypeII, casual, or whatever).
I got into MAGIC during college about 2 years ago, just when the Shards of Alara set was coming out. Bought in part of a box with a few friends and my collection was started. I opened a lot of Naya shard cards (WRG) including Titanic Ultimatum, so from the get-go I've been a "big dumb creatures" player (WOO! Timmy!).
My first deck was a 5-Power Naya deck which was pretty much "budget". Used Ravnica bounce lands for color fixing, "Druid of the Anima" and "Krosan Drover" as ramp (also Rampant Growth!), and the big stomps of my deck were Bull Cerodons with Spearbreaker Behemoths (oh and Titanic Ultimatum). I gradually got better at deck conceptualizing and after a few net-decks (which I did not do to make the following deck) I made combo deck revolving around "Turntimber Ranger" and "Artificial Evolution".... turn 4 wins are sweet. I also like my newest Elf-tribal deck which plays a full x4 Gelatinous Genesis which can turn out consistent Turn 5 wins in duels. It's appropriately named "Instrumentality".
My friends at college are pretty much the only people I play with, so having graduated it's tough finding a good casual community so far away. People at my local card shop like drafting (sorta expensive) or TypeII/Standard (REALLY FRAKKING expensive). Love the multiplayer, and we don't use a lot of "expensive" cards (you won't see Baneslayers, Jace2.0, Goyfs, or Force of Will) except maybe the Ravnica shock-lands.
I should also point out that I'm a "Elder Dragon Highlander" (aka "EDH") convert. I like the 100 card EDH format and have two decks for it. One "Mayael the Anima" big-creatures-rule deck, and a semi-combo deck featuring "Intet, the Dreamer" which I call the "Lupin, the Third" deck. Featuring all your favorite combo classics: infinite turns; Twincasting a kicked Rite of Replication on Bogarden Hellkite; "Pickles" (Brine Elemental/Vesuvan Shapeshifter); or the simple Kiki-Jiki/Pestermite.
So who all likes MAGIC? (And who's excited for "Scars of Mirrodin"?)
