Hello Scott! Pleased to make your acquaintance.(^v^) If you don't mind me asking... What is your relationship with Duck? Some people say you've replaced him. I... I was not made aware of such rumors for a long time. My friends and co-workers covered most of the backlash up, because they didn't want to let it get to me. It wasn't until a few years ago that I met Duck for the first time. He was the one who first disclosed the controversy to me. After listening to him explain, I immediately understood why they kept it away from me. I don't think I'd have made it for very long if they hadn't. But in the end, I'm glad he told me. I was able to come to terms with it eventually. I don't know the whys and hows of Duck's sudden departure from the series, or why I was immediately pushed to the forefront in light of his absence, but I believe it's better that way for the both of us. In fact, Duck said he considers it a well-deserved break to focus on his work! Can't argue with that, can I? (⌒_⌒ Performing is truly a taxing job! I can't imagine what Thomas must feel like... actually, I'm rather jealous of James sometimes! He never seems to tire out when it comes to acting, it's kind of unreal(・_・;)I wish I could handle the limelight as well as he can! Anyway, we're both always busy with our respective work, so we haven't had the chance to really become great friends per se, and I'm not going to pretend we actually are, but I do consider him to be a good acquaintance of mine. Duck's a pleasant enough fellow, I think. I greatly admire his dedication and work ethic — in fact, I aspire to be like him in those respects! (∩_∩) His Little Western is a lovely line, too, from what I've seen of it. He says it's hard work keeping it nice, but I'd still love to have a nice little branchline of my own. I don't know about leaving behind my mainline duties, though... (; ̄ェ ̄)I'd miss Gordon, and Henry and James! At the same time though, if you'd like me to be honest... I believe Duck's a bit too stubborn and overbearing for his own good. Terribly talkative, too — that nickname is truly fitting for him! Though, I suppose I can't really comment about the last one, can I...? (−_−;)He makes for a wonderful conversation partner though, even if I don't necessarily agree with him!
*all the unnecessary rambling is intentional, lol. i feel like this is just an excuse for my parenthesis abuse — only without the parentheses.

Hello Emily!
-Why did Seasons 8-16 of the TV Series portray you as a jerk?
-If you could meet any famous engine, who would it be?
-Hope you don't mind hearing a joke. Thought I'd give something as a thank you for coming to answer our questions. So, a drunk man staggers out of a bar and sees two priests. He staggers over to one of the priests and says, "I'm Jesus Christ." The priest says, "No, you're not." So the drunk staggers over to the other priest and says, "I'm Jesus Christ." That priest also says, "No, you're not." The drunk says, "Follow me, and I'll show you." So the two priests follow the drunk into the bar. The bartender says to the drunk, "Jesus Christ, you're back already?"
Cheerio (for now)! Chris

Hi! (^o^) -Why did Seasons 8-16 of the TV Series portray you as a jerk? Well, if you want me to be honest, I'd have to admit that my attitude during that time wasn't exactly very far removed from how I acted off-camera. (>_<。) I wasn't very considerate of others' feelings, I cared too much about making everything perfect, and I justified my controlling behavior because I set exceedingly high standards for everyone around me. Some of those stories (at least early on, anyway! I'm not nearly stupid enough to look around for hats and run around with dirty clothes! Though I do love watching football...) were in fact based, very loosely, on the misadventures I had during my stay in Sodor. I got over it once I figured out that I was only — only trying to use others to compensate for myself, and — Oops. My driver must've pushed the wrong button. Sorry! Anyway, sometimes I look back on it and try my best to laugh it off — I was very lucky to have co-workers who were able to put up with me during my worst. I thank them for it. Now I'm a different engine from who I was nine years ago — and I intend to improve myself more and more with every day. Until then, though, please bear with me!(^_-) I know I can be a handful sometimes.-If you could meet any famous engine, who would it be? Why, it'd be the Stirling Single currently in preservation, of course! I'd love to see her perform one day (●⌒∇⌒●) Oh, and probably Gordon's brother, too. I admire Gordon very much, and hearing him sing praises for Flying Scotsman must mean that he's an equally admirable engine, right? If not more! (≧∇≦) I'd probably embarrass myself in front of him, though... I should consult Gordon first if he ever visits again.-Hope you don't mind hearing a joke. Thought I'd give something as a thank you for coming to answer our questions. Sure, I do love a good laugh here and there! Still, sometimes I feel like me and Rosie are the only ones who absolutely despise Charlie's jokes... well, I'll still laugh. For politeness' sake. The bartender says to the drunk, "Jesus Christ, you're back already?" I... think I get it. Maybe. I'm not sure... It's not that bad of a joke, in fact. Good on you!(⌒▽⌒;) Buh-bye, Chris! And thank you! (◡‿◡✿)

Hello Emily,
Since you've lived through the later half of the 19th century, can you tell us what engines, people, and culture back then were like compared to today? How accurate would you say modern movie depictions of the 19th century are?
What do you think of the original books the show was based upon? It would be interesting to hear your opinion since you arrived on the island long after the show stopped adapting the Railway Series.

Hello, um, Doctor! Pleased to meet you (^ _ ^) Since you've lived through the later half of the 19th century, can you tell us what engines, people, and culture back then were like compared to today? How accurate would you say modern movie depictions of the 19th century are? First of all, I'd say a lot of things then were, obviously, drastically different from how they are now. Why, I remember people talking about moving pictures like it was some kind of witchcraft! For the longest time I also refused to believe it was anything other than magic (。・・) I don't really remember much about it anymore*, honestly, though I did love the pretty dresses and the architecture style. I believe that modern depictions of past eras (in general) tend to over-stereotype and exaggerate traits of them to the point where it goes overboard -- and on the other hand, they inadvertently overlook the less pleasant aspects which I was around to see. That said, I'd be lying if I said I don't enjoy watching them from time to time! You know what they say, a little nostalgia warms the... uh, firebox. I think. Did that come out wrong? What do you think of the original books the show was based upon? It would be interesting to hear your opinion since you arrived on the island long after the show stopped adapting the Railway Series. I think they're wonderful!(’-’*) A very charming series of books all around. In fact, I feel almost jealous** at some of the other engines before me for having the Awdrys publish their stories in print form. Sometimes I do wonder how things would be if I had been around for the Awdrys to write about me. But at the same time, I don't feel like I'd, um, how should I say this -- I don't feel like I'd lost anything, or been in a disadvantaged position, for being a TVS character. It's best to not dwell on things that I can't change, so to speak, and I'll continue doing my best regardless ^∇^ I could've worded that so much better...
*it's fairly obvious that I had to skim the TVTropes page for the era to answer this question, haha. Sorry. **actually, I decided to play as Emily in this thread because her role in fanworks are seemingly limited to 1) a relatively small amount of fanfiction, or 2) TVS parodies of the HiT era -- mostly the latter. I know I have no right to complain, not being nearly competent enough to write fanfiction just yet, but I thought that I could drum up some interest on Emily with my take on the character. In hindsight the idea is kind of silly, isn't it? ***Oh, and I'm interested in opinions about how I portrayed Emily, so feel free to let me know if you have any.

[/i] ***Oh, and I'm interested in opinions about how I portrayed Emily, so feel free to let me know if you have any.[/div][/i][/quote] I think you've portrayed Emily rather nicely. Bubbly, sweet, yet a rambler who's full of her own ideas. I love the little parenthesis faces you added. It really adds to the personality you've made. Something I've never seen in this thread before. Keep up the good work.

Whn you answered my questions, what did you mean when you said that Emily's driver had hit the wrong button? Thank you! I'm glad you and Scott (FFS) enjoyed my portrayal. Hmm... I pictured Emily replying to the questions through a video feed so to speak, kind of like Edward earlier in the thread. The answer to the question you asked lined up with my headcanon that in-universe, Emily acted like a jerk (mostly) because she cared too much about fixing things that weren't broken, and because she wanted to assert her superiority by being overly critical of everything around her (idk where I was going with this either but I decided to stick with it). I imagined that question to be a particularly difficult one for her to answer because she wanted to distance herself from that period of time. (You know, like that 4th grade version of me who was a total wapanese, or that 7th grade version of me who was a total pushover, that incites a mix of embarrassment and bad memories.) I think her driver did in fact press the wrong button (he was going to ramp up the mic volume, work with me here), coincidentally at the same time Emily realized she's said too much. The time between the video interruption and when it was turned on again was just enough for her to regain her composure and pick up where she left off without faltering. So that was a nice save for her.

A couple more questions for you, Emily: Who would you say your friends are? Also, who are your enemies? As for my friends, the obvious and admittedly rather cliche answer would be the rest of the, uh, "Steam Team". Thomas and Percy are good engines, and I get along well with Toby and Edward. They give really good advice; I sure can take a cue or two from them! (^ー^) I know that Gordon, James and Henry can be hard to get along with -- with other engines and with each other, which admittedly raises questions regarding how they can stand one another -- but I like to think I'm on reasonably good terms with them. The trick when being around them is to not worry about how your words can affect them, because they sure don't worry about how their words can affect me! (Percy, regarding James, seems to have not received the memo yet.) Oh, and a strong poker face is good to have, too, just in case. Kind of like this? ( ̄^ ̄) And maybe it's just me, but -- they're nicer than they let on. Sometimes -_-;) Admittedly, it's kind of hard to tell if they're being sincere or if they're just collectively pretending to be nice so they can laugh at you later, but still. With them, you just learn to tolerate their attitude and appreciate the moments of kindness they allow to show. It catches me off-guard sometimes. Just like with Diesel. But what do I know about him?As for the others... I won't pretend that I know everyone, but the ones I do know, I get along quite well with. Mostly. As for my enemies, hmm... I'd say the trucks, but they're more of an enemy of the people engines, so that goes without saying. Well, I'm not particularly fond of Diesel 10, especially after that stint with Percy. And, uh... Spencer! Who likes Spencer? Nobody, I'm sure.

Greeting Emily. Got a few questions for you. 1. Which color do you prefer? Your emerald or GNR green.
2. Have you ever met your sister Single No.1?
3. How did you get to Sodor seeing as your class never even had a working life on the LNER?
4. What type of music do you enjoy listening to?
Cheers Scott Lewis.

Greeting Emily. Got a few questions for you. And I'll answer them. That's what I'm here for, after all! (*^^*) I hope I'm not being annoying...1. Which color do you prefer? Your emerald or GNR green. Hmm... I loved wearing the GNR livery, but I'd have to say that I've grown very attached to emerald as well. They offered me a new coat of paint to help me settle into Sodor, you know. I'm glad I chose emerald; it's a very pretty color, if I do say so myself (︶▽︶) It's... so nice to finally stand out.2. Have you ever met your sister Single No.1? No, unfortunately, though I've heard stories from Thomas, that's for sure. I'd sure love to see her for myself, however! (ᗒᗜᗕ)՛̵̖ I'm sure she has tons of stories to tell. 3. How did you get to Sodor seeing as your class never even had a working life on the LNER? Why, it's a funny story, actually! I'd known for a long time that I was about to be scrapped -- but the men pulled some strings, shed some tears, and, well... here I am (^ᴗ^) I'm tremendously lucky for them to help me. I never knew humans -- the ones who held the cutter's torch -- could be so selfless.4. What type of music do you enjoy listening to? Pop music, of course. Cheerful tunes are a great way to boost your mood, no matter how trite Gordon claims them to be! Ah, but, I'm not even sure if Gordon truly loves anything that doesn't boost his ego in some way. Though I never seem to pay attention to the lyrics*...Cheers! (ᅌᴗᅌ* )
*I know, I know I've let you down I've been a fool to myself I thought that I could live for no-one else...

Hey Emily, I promise most of my questions won't be about Mr. Montague but his question had to be asked. In today's episode 'Duck and the Slip Coaches', Duck took your place in Tidmouth Sheds. You seemed pretty upset about it. Where did you sleep?

Hey Emily, I promise most of my questions won't be about Mr. Montague but his question had to be asked. {Spoiler}Spoiler In today's episode 'Duck and the Slip Coaches', Duck took your place in Tidmouth Sheds. You seemed pretty upset about it. Where did you sleep? {Spoiler} SpoilerOh, that. I had to sleep in my old shed at Knapford. ...I didn't mind it as much as my initial reaction suggested, actually! Everyone needs their own peace and quiet every once in a while, after all. Heaven knows how I'll accomplish that with Duck blabbering about all night... ( ¬_¬) I appreciate his stories but I certainly don't want him to spoil me a good night's rest. Two of them, in fact! And, anyway, everyone ...except James, the poor thing seemed to be enjoying themselves, so I didn't really want to intrude. That wouldn't be polite! Duck had been there first, after all. I wouldn't want to... deprive him of the spotlight ( ̄ω ̄ Oh, Murdoch happened to be at Knapford's, too. Well, needless to say, the both of us had two rather uneventful nights (*´ ˘ `*) Save for that stray cat. But that's a story for another time ε-(´・`)And ooh, Mr. Montague. I should call him that the next time we meet! (>y<)

Howdy Emily,
I'm sure we're all aware of the "I'm superior and revolutionary" attitude some diesel locomotives had towards steam locomotives during the 60s, so I've got an unusual question for you. In the days when steam power was a new technology, did any of the early steam locomotives possess a similar attitude toward horses on horse-drawn railways?

Howdy again, Doc! (◑‿◐) Whoa, that sounded really awkward.I'm sure we're all aware of the "I'm superior and revolutionary" attitude some diesel locomotives had towards steam locomotives during the 60s, so I've got an unusual question for you. In the days when steam power was a new technology, did any of the early steam locomotives possess a similar attitude toward horses on horse-drawn railways? Why, that is an unusual question. I know perfectly fine about how certain diesel engines treated us during those days... there's no real harm in their words, of course, because they really couldn't do much to dispel us themselves, but at that time, their threats were always a grim reminder of reality. And it was all psychological -- their condescension couldn't do anything to touch us in theory, but in reality it was difficult to keep yourself going when everyone around you seemed to believe that you weren't really worth having around. Great, now my disposition's all sour... Well, that's all (mostly) in the past now, so there's nothing I need to worry about now (∩▂∩) I later found out that those diesels adopted that attitude mostly because they were taught so by the humans around them. Their controllers, their crew, their doting fitters. Some grew out of it, and some don't. That's just how it goes, I suppose! (︶︿︶) Now, to answer your question since I just realized I haven't really answered it, yes. Not all of them did, but a number of early steam engines did harbor a certain superior mentality around the more old-fashioned "horse carts". It was all kept in small talk before work or late at night in the sheds, at first; and then, well, it just spiraled from there. I firmly kept myself away from those matters, but I suppose it would've been better if I'd made more of an effort to stop them. Either way, the attitude ended up losing popularity after some time probably because they're horses, so they're less fun to pick on (╯╰), and for the better, too.

Hello! (๑>ᴗ<๑) Glad to meet you. I'd like to hear the story about the stray cat at Knapford sheds. Perhaps you might elaborate? One silly thing found its way to the sheds this one time and climbed into our cabs. Made an awful lot of noise, too. I certainly don't appreciate having my cab, um, defiled ...poor choice of words and rattled by some kitty who's probably been to places I wouldn't even want to imagine! (>o<) Just, I mean... no, thanks. Ever. It's worse than sharing a shed with Mr. Montague!( ̄□ ̄;) Or Thomas, during his fits of sleep-whistling. Screw sleep-whistling.Even worse: it kept hopping back and forth between me and Murdoch. I didn't know steam engines could shake so much!(・□・;)It did eventually go away, though, somehow... I made sure to savor every last bit of sleep I had left, in any case.

James here, what do you think about my paint?
Shh James! What did you think of my trick the other night?
Stow it Henry, my paint is more important than your trick!
Stop arguing you make me tired. By the way, who is the fastest engine on Sodor?
That was my line, Gordon. Also that honor goes to Spencer not you!
