Well, idk about you, but I certainly enjoy seeing the new pokemon that are out, especially Talonflame fire/flying (evolved form of Fletchling) and Pangoro dark/fighting (evolved form of Pancham), two of these which I will no doubt add to my first party with Chespin!

Now, I don't know how much of us have extra cash laying around to just buy random things, but these may be of interest to a few of us collectors here. www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/search.aspx?search=PokemonI'm referring to the D Arts Pokemon figures. I'm definitely going to get the 3 starters, and I know for a fact that Mewtwo is on eBay for about $20 or so, depending on the retailer. Better get these while you can!

I just got X. Like it so far. And because this takes place in a France-esque region, I named my character "Millie", haha.

I started with Fennekin; none of the other final evolutions appealed to me much. Of course, then I picked up a Charmander anyway, despite adding more disadvantage to water and rock and the sort. But what was I to do? Mega Charizard X is the thing that finally persuaded me to get X version. ^^;

A friend of mine play's Y, but on his behalf, was double-edge for Venusaur (it finally evolved) worth learning in substitute for vine whip? (i.e, was getting rid of vine whip for double edge) and is poison powder really that bad compared to stun spore, I personally think yes. Also here is XY's 5th episode in case you haven't seen it (Though I bet you have.)
So far, WAY better that Black and White in story writing (80% of the time).

The Black and White anime was certainly almost intolerable. While this seems to be a step up, it's still the Pokemon anime and it's still rubbish with undeservingly good battle scenes.
I am digging that intro theme though.

On the subject of the anime, this is how I rate the protagonists. Not included Serena, Clemont or Bonnie yet until I see more of the X/Y anime (in English).
1. Brock (His antics just NEVER got old for me. I just liked how he could be so mature and then crumble at the sight of a pretty face) 2. Iris (Sure, she has her moments of jerkishness, but her general actions and attitude are very different from most of the females, although there are a few I see in Misty. I also just really like her design) 3. May (Generally very likable, but not without having a few moments, plus the interaction she has with Max was interesting. Possibly a little bland, though) 4. Ash (I'm gonna get some stick for this, but I do genuinely think Ash serves his purpose as main protagonist well enough. We do generally see character progression out of him, although sometimes you have to question how he can be surprised at the same thing EACH season) 5. Misty (OK, put the torches down! I don't hate Misty. Her snide remarks and outbursts were pretty funny and she made a good foil to Ash in the first few seasons. I just think that, unlike Brock, they DID get old as the series went on...and also I think she's a little over-rated) 6. Max (I'm kinda indifferent about Max, to be honest. Again, the relation between him and May is interesting. I just...can't really rate him any higher) 7. Tracey (He just generally came across as bland and not very memorable) 8. Cilan (His design really bugs me, and his voice is annoying. And I swear, if he goes into his "Evaluation" rants one more time....><) 9. Dawn (OK, I'll be blunt...Dawn is just a female version of Ash, in my mind. And without much of the likability at that.)
So, how do you guys who've seen the anime rate them?

I'm not going to rate them individually, since they're all bland to me. The problem is that every character receives just one character trait to work with and it doesn't work at all. I'm only going to talk about Ash.
Ash is not a good character. He really isn't. He's bland and uninteresting because we don't know anything about him. What we do know are small tidbits from his younger childhood, which do nothing for him. Seriously, couldn't they have at least TRIED to make him interesting?? I'm not saying every character needs a cool or tragic backstory or anything, but with a character this amazingly bland, he needs something. He's had hardly any character development. IF ANY. I really can't remember last when he actually learned from something he did because once he does, he'll soon be back to doing things the EXACT SAME WAY.
You know what I think? I think that Ash shouldn't be the main protagonist; I think that the Team Rocket trio should be. They're fun characters--or at least the used to be--and hey, wow, we actually know things about their past. Things that make them interesting characters. I find it really sad that your main villains (that I think you're trying to make us hate) have better EVERYTHING than your main hero. Maybe you can up your protagonists a bit if they got to actually know them and developed an interesting relationship with them. That would at least keep your sandpaper people in the picture and it might make for an interesting story.

Well, I'm going to have to respectfully (key word) disagree with you there, Lady TehPikachu. I would not personally say that knowing little about a character's backstory automatically makes them "bland and uninteresting".

Well Devious Diesel, on a 1-10 rating, 1 being that the character is bland and useless:
Ash Ketchum: 7 ( in all good honesty seasons 1-6 were his best, in B&W it was like he was completely reset, intolerable, like forgetting that all Nurse Joy's are relatives working in different towns/cities. As for from seasons 7-13 (I refuse to analyze 14-17), alright, definitely not the best performance, particularly how he kept saying "no need to worry", which was ok as Dawn's saying, but not his. In addition, so battling strategies during Diamond and Pearl were terrible, I mean, why use Gliscor to battle Snover, a bad match, Snover's grass type move would cream Gliscor as a ground type in addition to ice type moves being super effective on both ground and flying types, so Gliscor shouldn't be considered to battle AT ALL, why are you relying so much on Fire Fang!?)
Brock: 8 ( HILARIOUS, that was he is) Misty: 7 (talk about cheek, pulling Brock's ear all the time, sometimes insulting Ash, pummeling other girls for just looking at Ash, then denieing everything she feels about him. But in the end I got tired of it.) Tracey: Eh, no rating, can't seem to find any strong or weak points, 5 in the middle.
May: Meh, I'll skip this one, don't know how to rate her, maybe between 5-6.5. Max: also don't know how, 3rd generation characters aren't all that great for some reason to me (4 for a score).
Dawn: 7 (like when Ash started she wasn't all that well with Pokemon, nor was she good at contests, but develops skills overtime) Barry: 6 (Hilarious as well for sudden brief appearances, but an absolute fool when he wins, as well as being cocky)
Cilan: for me, the "Evaluation time" wasn't that bad, but his score is either 4 or 5 based on character effectiveness and influence in the series, which he has almost zip, zero with. Iris: JUST NO! Bland rude, a 2D character, battling style is cool, just as a character in the anime, no, gets a 2.5 as she is sometimes funny, but rude.

I was saying that he IS bland and without anything to make him interesting. You can easily have an interesting character without an interesting backstory, but Ash is not one of those characters. Edit; Actually, I did say that. Not what I meant, I apologise. He's bland because he's got nothing at all going for him is what I meant.
