I heard yesterday of Clive Dunn's passing.
He is one actor from Dad's Army that will be remembered the most, for his catchphrases such as (of course): "Don't Panic!", to his antiques that of the character age he was portraying would never do.
Of course others may also remember Clive for his portray as "Grandad", as well as the popular song he recorded also of the same title.
R.I.P Clive, you will always be remember. Where you've gone now, you will be in the Realms of Fantasy.

It is sad about Bill Pertwee's death, another great actor from the great era of sitcoms. But he'll be up there now, most likely saying Hodgens classic phrase: "Put that Light Out!" But at the same time, he'll also be reunited with his cousin Jon Pertwee.
RIP Bill Pertwee, you will never be forgotten like all the other greats of comedy.

45 years ago to the day the first episode of a new TV sitcom was shown on the BBC- it went on to set the stage for every ensemble comedy that ever followed and made household names of the cast.
A milestone for Dad's Army- here's a rarely seen shortie from 1969 to celebrate.

I think a comparison with the 2004 Thunderbirds film is apt. A new take on classic characters that ultimately, when all is said and done, won't displace the original in people's minds because it's so far removed from it.
That said the casting for this film is spot on. Toby Jones and Bill Nighy are both a very good fit for the characters they'll be playing, and they're also two of the very best British actors currently working.

I heard the news regarding this yesterday, and as a fan of Dad's Army I'm actually against the idea of seen the home guard back as a feature length film. Despite it possibly introduce to a whole new generation to the setting and situation, I personally don't think it'll have the same appeal as the original sitcom has. I've got no dis to Jimmy Perry I think his and David Croft's creation (along with their other creations such as It Ain't Half Hot Mum), but I kind of feel this may flop and with today's audiences probably won't go down as well as the Producers hope. The original show is still a classic and can be enjoyed by the new generation for many years to come. Not sure if its a Hollywood feature, but it seems like another reboot that may end going down the drain. I'd like to see more original content that has the qualities of the heyday of sitcoms along with more original content that reboots after reboots (I can tolerate sequels because if there's a story to continue, then that's fine). Sorry for ranting so much, but I wanted to get this off my chest when I heard the news. I just feel Dad's Army is something that should be left alone. P.S. I don't mind them doing Dad's Army on the stage a few times over, I'm sure that's a lot of fun than watching a reboot that could go pear-shaped.

I'm a massive fan of Dad's Army,I have all the DVD's,audio releases, several books,3 t shirts,3 pairs of socks,a beer glass tankard, several mugs, the range of Lledo Dad's Army diecast vehicles, both Corgi Jones Van & Hodges Van models with figures still in the packaging, the Hodges one is actually signed by Bill Pertwee, whom I met back in 2002 at Bressingham Steam Museum's Dad's Army event,I have loads of other merchandise too. I loved the series, some really classic episodes all round, shame that most of the cast are no longer with us,but their performances live on through the continual enjoyment of watching the episodes of this fantastic classic vintage comedy again & again. I'm going to visit the Dad's Army Museum at Thetford in Norfolk (where all the filming of the series took place) on Sunday 15th June & on that day too I'm also going on the Dad's Army Trail or location tour walk & hopefully going to see Jones Van too. I'm very excited indeed

It's only been mentioned very quietly on Twitter so far, but just to pass on the sad news that Pamela Cundell (Mrs. Fox) has passed away:

So Bill Pertwee, Clive Dunn, Arthur Lowe and Pamela Cundell are all dead? That's just horrible. I've seen a bit of Dad's Army on youtube and I thought it was rather humorous.

I remember talking about this show in my War and Society: UK class when we were talking about the common memory of WWII. I've been meaning to check it out since.

I am looking forward to this new cast Dad's Army film next year, normally I am 100% against remakes, do'nt even get me started on the Ghostbusters remake, it's the worst idea since the Robocop remake.
But having just seen the trailer, I will be interested to see the film when it's out, rumour has it that Ian Lavender & Frank Williams have cameos in the film too.

I've heard of this show, actually. The sad thing is, as popular a sitcom as it was, 3 episodes are missing.

Wow, this new trailer looks even better than the first trailer, plus I heard through the grapevine that some scenes were filmed at the North Yorkshire Moors Railways' Pickering station, I stayed in Pickering & visited the railway back in late May, so you can imagine how incredible that is when you hear new like that about filming locations.
