Well anybody who hasn't been completely oblivious to Cartoon Network during the past 11 years might have noticed one particular block of cartoons called "Toonami". It was an action block of Anime that has been on the airwaves of Cartoon Network for the past 11 years (since 1997). This block of shows got many of my generation (the 1986-1991 born people) hooked on Anime and generally good shows. It's ultra-cool host TOM and his computer AI assistant Sarah (and recently TOM[4.0?], T, and Flash) have brought us this multi-hour block of awesome for the majority of the last decade. There's been sad moments (the death of TOM1), joyous moments (the reign of TOM2.0), and controversy (TOM4.0 looking like Thomas the Tank Engine) but viewers love them all the same... except for TOM4.0 >_> Ladies and Gentlemen, an era of history has ended tonight. Announced and effective as of September 20th 2008, the block of air time known as Toonami has been canceled. Youtube: Toonami's Final Broadcast... Tom's Goodbye[/i][/url] HyperLink: Otaku Times article on Toonami Cancelation, with sidelink to ANNI'm very saddened by this action of Cartoon Network. Just proving that their channel has gone down the sh***er with poor shows (Flapjack, SkunkFu, etc.) and just a missed mark on their Toonami upgrade (see: TOM4.0, T, and Flash). This block introduced me to wonderful animes like DragonBall Z, Outlaw Star, and The Big O. "Until we meet again, stay gold...... ..... Bang." ~ TOM4.0

They cancelled Toonami? I remember watching several episodes of DragonBall Z back in 2000. They were really awesome. Thanks for the memories, Toonami!

I watched Sailor Moon on Toonami and was involved with the infamous SOS fight to get Sailor Moon S and Super S on the air. It is truly sad the way the Cartoon Network has gone down hill over the past seven years or so, once nearly unseating Nick as the Number 1 cable network now run into the ground. I have a lot of fond memories of Toonami but in a way I'm glad to see the block has finally been put out of its misery after being so fouled over the last few years. I doubt Cartoon Network will ever manage to turn itself around, then again the Adult Swim is the dawn that came from the tragedy. FYI, I also miss the real Cartoon Cartoons from Cartoon Network prime time.

I'm sorry, but I must ask, which Toonami is this? Toonami USA? Toonami UK? Worldwide?

The TV industry is taking a rapid fall in quality now. Cartoon Network is no exception, Toonami's probably been cancelled so CN can either show more "new" cartoons or create more time for Adult Swim. Though the thing about the new cartoons are that, most of the aren't even CN produced anymore, they're mostly canadian-made shows that aired on teletoon and the like. Anyway, back to Toonami. I remember I used to watch various animes like Gundam and someother show. Introduced me to animated violence and what my home country has (or had) to offer.

Hmm... I didn't know Toonami was still around until now, anyway I stopped watching the channel when Dragonball GT debuted but my earliest memory of it was when CNX was around on Sky 244 and shortly after Toonami popped up in a mini slot before CNX closed down and the slot was moved to Cartoon Network instead, not to sure though as my memory is a bit rusty here.

I don't really mind as long as Adult Swim stays put.

At least we still have Adult Swim, They had to air Goosebumps and then just make it a 2 hour block, and now here's the final nail in the coffin. Why did they cancel it anyway? I watched a ton of DBZ,Tenchi Muyo,Justice League etc back in the day. Once Chowder and the Eds are gone,I'm through following CN, apart from Robot Chicken on Adult Swim , since they yanked off all the good anime for this crappy 12 oz Mouse or Assy McGee(which is probably only on there because of the title) What has Ted Turner been thinking

I suspect Toonami worldwide. As even "Toonami Jetstream" (a streaming website) is going to change its brand to "Jetstream". I don't really mind as long as Adult Swim stays put. I'd like to adress this. According to the articles I've read (and wikipedia, which for this instance I can trust) Adult Swim will absorb the Animes from Toonami. The staff who worked on the Toonami block will be relocated to other sections of Cartoon Network. This is rather umm... bad news for Anime fans. Adult Swim in recent years (IE some time after 2006) has a director who absolutley hates Animes, and prefers the comedies (if you can call some of them that). Granted there's some good stuff, but shows like Tom Goes to the Mayor, Squidbillies, Tim&Eric SuperAwesomeShow, 12 oz Mouse, Assy McGee etc. which sprung up around 2006 were actually made from the money which could have gone to a third season of an anime show. Not only that but the animes which are on there now are not advertised, in horrible time slots, and generally made fun of by the staff at Williams Street. Yeah, don't think Naruto is safe either. So Anime fans are worrying at this point because Toonami was pretty much the only source of Anime (which was not touched by 4Kids) on TV for the past 11 years.

It's not too much of a problem for me. After Justice League and DBZ Toonami didn't really have anything I liked. Either way, another reason why TV is getting worse.

OMG! I didn't realize they're cancelled Toonami, why would they do that? First, Whatever Happened to Robot Jones is cancelled, then the other old Cartoon Network shows is gone, and now Toonami? WHAT THE HECK!!!

ya know toonami was the beginning for anime in america. without toonami, anime would NEVER has as much success as it does now. seeing TOMS last message was devastating... I died a little inside when toonami ended.
