Wow, it’s been two whole years since I posted here...?
Anyways, I’ve recently come back to the anime scene, this time a lot more firmly than I have in the past, I got over my brief strong phase for a while, but given the state of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends, coupled with Pokémon Sun and Moon being a slight disaster, I’ve returned to this medium for entertainment.
I’ve recently come across two shows that have become quick favorites of mine, stomping over any of my once previously claimed favorite anime’s. First is Gamers!, a rather enjoyable and quirky rom-com that takes what one would usually suspect an anime like it to do, and completely flips it over. It’s a lovely show, and I really recommend watching it in dub, the voicework in it is amazing. I should note however the language in the show is on a T rating, so if you’re not use to cussing, don’t watch.
Another show is A Certain Magical Index and its spin-off Series A Certain Scientific Railgun. Both shows in my opinion are downright awesome to watch. It’s a show based on the conflicts of religion and science, and the story is mainly in Index (Railgun’a story is just as legit however, and an important arc in Index is expanded upon in Railgun S) and it is extremely captivating, at least in my view. Again, another rated T show, but if you can handle it, I really must insist that you watch it, it is a solid show — especially now that Index’s third season is currently airing at the moment.

Once upon a time, I was heavily into Pokemon and Dragonball Z. Then... I grew up... Now, my favourite anime are as follows: One Piece (Very childish at times, but still good story and freakin’ hilarious! XD) Cowboy Bebop (Makes me cry every time) Black Lagoon (Possibly my ultimate favourite: Guns, Girls, Gangs, Russians, Yakuza, Pirates, The Works! ) Gurren Laggan (Hated the Ending-Loved Everything Else) Black Butler (Only the first series I really gave a damn about. Really impressed by the amount of research taken into Victorian England by someone only the bold would describe as an outsider to all of that!) Hellsing (I’ve seen both the TV Series and the Ultimate OVAs. I prefer Ultimate because they did not skip out on the gore!) Berserk (I’ve seen both 1997 & 2016 versions. 1997 is WAAAAAY BETTER!!!) Robotech (Have not watched for years, but have whole first series on DVD) Death Note (Read half of the manga-LOVE IT) Fullmetal Alchemist (Read some of the Manga-LOVE IT) Akira (Watched the Movie and read the first volume of the Manga. I actually like the manga a lot better, but I LOVE the animation in the film. It’s what made me want to become an animator!) Castle Of Cagliostro (I want to say that whoever thought this film was a good idea deserves to be crowned Emperor of Mankind and worshipped for the rest of his days. BANZAI!!) Cromartie High School (So funny. So funny. Also, Freddy Mercury is in it.) Samurai Champloo (A real interesting mix of hip hop subculture and Edo Japan!) Kiki’s Delivery Service (So freakin’ pleasant) Porco Rosso (Nuff said. It’s awesome) Spirited Away (Too beautiful for words) Vampire Hunter D: (Awesome.) Vampire Hunter D-Bloodlust: (Awesome) Blood: The Last Vampire: (Too short, but awesome) Batman-Ninja: (Come on. It’s Batman. In anime form. What’s there not to like?) I think that’s all I can think of for now. Rest assured, once I’ve seen more, more will appear on this very post!

I'm very definitely an anime guy! Funnily enough, one of the ones I'm watching at the moment, Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu (AKA Cute High School Earth Defence Club Love!), a parody of anime like Sailor Moon, PreCure, etc, included in episode 2 a character called Hashida Wario, who is obsessed with everything being equal numbers - or, as he puts it, 'being orderly'. Remind anyone of a certain wacky disciplinarian tugboat whose name begins with 'B'?

For the past year I've been having a revisit back to Dragonball Z and this year with Dragonball GT which with neither I hadn't really seen either for years, at all or via the video games. Plus recently after seeing a couple of clips on YouTube, I've just brought the first season of Digimon and have a revisit of that which again I haven't seen for years and only owned two VHS tapes of that and had a couple of episodes recorded from the telly.
At the moment I'm contemplating on revisit the original series of Pokémon but we'll just have to see because the initially two seasons of that were fun back in the day.

I've never really been into anime, but I watched Grave of the Fireflies by Studio Ghibli yesterday (English dub), and gosh did it make me feel some things. I hate that movie, in the best way possible. Incredibly depressing, but something I think everyone should watch. I cannot recommend it enough.
I've decided to try some more Ghibli later, I like the look of Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, but I want to save the best till last, so I think From Up on Poppy Hill might be next. From what I've heard it's good but not the best. If any of you have recommendations I'm all ears.

I'd highly recommend Kiki's Delivery Service, which is probably my all time favorite Ghibli film, and My Neighbors the Yamadas, which doesn't really get talked about that often (probably because it's pretty different from most Ghibli fare, it's actually a slice of life comedy based on a comic series + it bombed when it came out in Japan) but it's honestly pretty hilarious.

Today's the 35th anniversary of the Anpanman anime as it aired since 1988. I got into it thanks to Zootycutie from Deviantart.

If none of y'all have seen it, I'd highly recommend watching The Rose of Versailles (AKA Lady Oscar), utterly classic shoujo drama anime from 1979 set in 18th century France.
If you're in the US, it's streaming free on Retrocrush.

Its no coincidence that I've actually been watching Dragonball Z recently (namely the Namek and Frieza Sagas) and now to hear its creator has passed on. But like all the greats, Akira Toriyama's legacy will live on.
