...if things aren't resolved by next month, I'm kinda worried that it'll be delayed like the rest of my packages have been heading to the US I can see both sides of the argument on this question being asked, Luke22 . This is ultimately a Thomas & Friends forum and we do discuss upcoming DVDs including distribution issues, and, in this instance, the reasoning behind such a distribution issue does tie in to the thread topic. It's a legitimate consideration that links to this discussion. However, I believe that in this instance, keeping it to the Upcoming UK/US DVD Releases thread would have been the wiser action. If it's affected, it's affected, and the reasons why should be perfectly understandable. Internally, Royal Mail still seems to be operating without too much hindrance and the bigger hiccup would be in the actual distribution of the DVD. They're all probably in a box somewhere ready to roll, but the idea of people being gathered in that warehouse that manufactures the DVDs to make sure they do doesn't ring true to 'key worker' so there's a likelihood, in spite of mail still moving around the UK, that those particular boxes stay on that particular shelf. I'll say no more about it, as others have highlighted their feelings of inappropriateness, but I would ask for members to think carefully about how suitable it is to be raising logistical minutia amid people discussing friends' and their own livelihoods and lives being or at risk of being completely unspooled by this pandemic. To all members, please exercise your best judgement.

To all members, please exercise your best judgement. I'm curious on something: how's the shipping situation out there in the UK? I ask this because I preordered The Royal Engine from the Amazon UK site, and if things aren't resolved by next month, I'm kinda worried that it'll be delayed like the rest of my packages have been heading to the US... Considering the context of this thread and the global situation right now, I hardly think this is worth worrying about, do you? Thomas DVD. Pandemic. Thomas DVD. Pandemic that can kill and seemingly randomly now. Think priorities need to be set in order here... I clearly need to explain why I posted that (and quite frankly I should've been more specific since what I posted was vague and I didn't think I'd get this response, but justifiable point from you guys....)...:The reason why I said that was because my job is also in the shipping department of a Goodwill warehouse (this part of what I meant to add to my post), where at first I did still have a job, but I ended up getting furloughed as of mid-March with them mentioning that we'll be back to work in the first week of April. However, I unfortunately got an update from my CEO that because the shutdown is still in place, they now had to place me and the rest of my co-workers on furlough (not fired, but not working at the same time...).... Now keeping in mind that's just what I meant to add since this shutdown kind of left me having to hunt down for a temporary job to be able to make ends meet, unless if we get that $1,200 government check mailed to us either this month or next month...., but regardless it's going to be a struggle period this month if I don't find a job until then... Anyways, it's because I sympathize for those that work in the shipping section of other places like Amazon, FedEx, USPS, etc. that have to make sure that they don't get get contracted with this virus by even touching a mere package (and I had to wear gloves to ensure that nothing gets contaminated w/ how much items I process and scan each time)... However, after hearing that one of the Amazon workers tested positive for the COVID-19 (not my job area, but similar), my boss ended up temporarily closing to ensure that nobody else risks getting tested positive for this virus... Heck, my packages from Japan (one of the places that got hit hard by this virus) are still sitting over there for almost a month now, probably with how much items has been restricted to the US and maybe they're making doubly sure that it hasn't been contaminated... Now maybe the virus can't survive because of how long it'll take to get there, but my boss said it's better safe than sorry to make sure these packages do get through as sterile as possible. So yeah, that post I made was just from my occupational hazard(?) (wasn't sure if that's the term that's appropriate) in regards to my job shipping (and again, something I should've emphasized better, bad habit of mine to leave out details of why I posted that)... I don't know if it better explains why I was worried about getting the package, but that's something I needed to let out of my chest. I know it's not a priority of what I get, but if I do get the package, I also would need to disinfect any and all packages I'll receive from here on out.... www.msn.com/en-us/money/companies/us-postal-service-could-shut-down-by-june-lawmakers-warn/ar-BB128O5w?fbclid=IwAR1HbWFt9lG6gPVzIw8PnszE8dKuS4DfxbAKiyD7UJEyJvYAQ8zbphzNSJo*EDIT* Also this'll be worrying if the postal service ends up shutting down...

I'm not going to lie. I'm nervous, worried, and scared, not just for our health, but for our economy too. That makes two of us but I also fear for our First Respondents and Medical staff.

And the amount of cases reported in the UK is decreasing too (from what I’ve read about at the moment I write this). Anyway, anyone know how the heritage railways are holding up? Have any of them reached a stable financial position yet? I don’t mean to be selfish, but I could really do with some good news right about now.

The reason the number of cases are decreasing in the U.S. but the deaths are increasing, is based on the forms from CDC sent to all the states, in which they would count a heart attack death as a coronavirus death because if the person had a very mild case of coronavirus, but major heart problems they would count as a coronavirus death, even if the coronavirus only contributed a tiny bit of it. Even if its assumed that the corpse had coronavirus, they will still count it as a coronavirus death.
Edit: I did some more research and I realize this is unlikely. I really need to stop listening to my parents even though they're doctors.

Preserved railways won't be in a stable condition until they can reopen. Running trains is the best way to generate income.
Look after yourselves first but if you do have any spare cash then the railways would really benafit from it.

I don’t mean to be selfish, but I could really do with some good news right about now. my Railroad museum that I volunteer at (which is the Illinois Railway Museum in the USA) is closed to public and to us volunteers until May 1st, if things don’t Improve by then we will remain closed until further noticed. I suspect it’s happening all over the world. We originally were going to be just closed to just the public and keep our volunteers staff in the shops to limited number to be able to still work on equipment but that change when the governor of Illinois stepped up the restrictions on gatherings. While this may not have an immediate impact on larger museums such as ours, it’s the smaller museums that will likely be the first ones to suffer, this includes tourist railroads

At first I thought perhaps I would be an essential worker as I work for a factory that supplies parts to the trucking industry. But two days into the Stay Home Order, (Which was Monday March 23rd, where I live- Michigan USA) my workplace found that even as an essential place, enough of their companies had reduced work that they needed to lay off a lot of their employees for the time being. They asked each employee what they wished, and I volunteered to be let go if necessary, since I'm living at home until getting married this Summer, and I knew I could take advantage of the extra time at home. Sure enough, I was let go, and have been for nearly a month now.
It's been a blessing and a curse. I now can more easily avoid the virus, and I've managed to accomplish a lot of work on my projects (mostly Thomas stuff, in fact!) due to being furloughed. But, even with unemployment benefits, it still feels off not working. Also, being furloughed is just a reminder of everything else going on, such as not being able to be near my fiancée, since we aren't living together until we are married. I also can't see my newborn niece. Still, it's not as bad as what I've read other people are going through.
I've also taken to donating to heritage lines, as much as I can.

Hope you guys and your families/friends are all keeping well at this awful time! Thank you Nicholas for opening the thread, I'm sure it'll be a helpful avenue for those that may be struggling with the effects of this awful pandemic. I think we do well at having decent/rational discussion with one another here on SiF, which is why I know that this thread won't decent into chaos in the way that I'm sure discussion of this topic is likely to in parts of social media (just to be clear, I'm not making a dig/reference to the Thomas Twitter community at all, but am referencing the worldwide web as a whole). I don't want this to look like I've blanket ignored the messages above, I will get round to reading them for sure. I know that sadly, it'll be affecting us all in different ways and will be having a negative impact on the quality of life, mental and physical health of many. It is incumbent on those of us otherwise unaffected by this awful virus to remember that however difficult it is being stuck inside, it is no hardship in comparison to the situation of those that have tragically lost their own lives or the lives of their loved ones. I hope more broadly, that once this pandemic leaves us that we all as human beings learn to be better. We owe it to the healthcare workers/to everyone that have lost their lives to ensure that they leave behind a world that is kinder, fairer and where we are more tolerant of one another. Those that have died don't have the chance to see 2021, 2022, 2023 etc. like the rest of us do, what a waste it would be if we continued to see a world where whilst there is mostly good, there continues to be too much abuse, factionalism and general petty squabbling/unkindness online/in person.

I'm getting very bored due to being in quarunteen. I miss being able to volunteer at a shelter I like. Being cooped up all day is no fun.
If I had the money I would happily donate but I don't really at the moment.

I think we can all echo the point about being cooped up all day with very little to do - especially with the weather getting nicer and summer just around the corner. But of course this won't be the conventional summer that we've all come accustomed too with all that's been going on - such as anyone going aboard because of all the travel bans and restrictions across the global. I'll be surprised if anyone does go abroad for the summer this year - even coming into September, which is when I'm due to go away. But I'm more expecting to be looking towards next year as far as anyone going away on holiday for the summer goes. However in these uncertain times, we can only take out what we put into this crisis and think of some of the positives aspects going on amidst all the in face negative news day in and day out. Such as the achievement of World War Two veteran Captain now turned Colonel Thomas Moore in the money he's raised to help the UK's National Health Service.

We can also try setting ourselves individual challenges. I, for example, am training to row the length of the English Channel on my rowing machine, putting together the script, sets and models for a short film, using my new Hornby train set, and recording and editing readings I have done for a series on my YouTube channel called 'Bedtime Books For Children' (Link is here, if you guys want to like and subscribe: www.youtube.com/channel/UCThSSlZEliTZj9-7YayM6Kg). Pretty much, I have taken Stevie's (aka Sarah Hadland's) advice, and thought small. Heather Small. And asked myself…

Hope everyone is staying safe with all this mess. Honestly I am finding the best thing to do is to not sit on the computer all day and have a routine. Finish some projects around the house (and model trains too!). Kind of crazy because my wife is high risk and trying to keep her safe and all. I definitely agree with LNERandBR in regards to preserved railways and railroads. The one nearest is cancelling things left and right and another announced that their steam loco won't be running this year (it was it's last year before the boiler ticket expired). Hopefully we can get back to some sense of normal.
