We are delighted to announce that courtesy of the good people at Lion Hudson books, we have a copy of The Thomas The Tank Engine Man available to give away to one lucky winner. This competition is open to entrants from all over the world – there is no restriction on territories, we will send it anywhere you are.
As part of the giveaway, we will be interviewing the Rev. Awdry’s biographer, Brian Sibley, about his time speaking to the Rev. Awdry. We want you guys to submit your questions for Brian via Sodor Island Forums. The most interesting / unique question will win the prize, and runners-up will have their questions submitted to Brian as part of the official interview – which will appear on the Sodor Island Fansite in April.
The competition closes for entries on Saturday the 19th of March
How did the Reverend view the expansive universe he had created when he looked back on it all towards the last several years of his life? What started out as just stories for his sick son, eventually turned into a saga with characters, places, and intricacies that can be compared to epic series like Lord of the Rings (i.e., the Sudric language). Was this creation of an entire fictional universe something that the Reverend had always wanted to do, and had the opportunity to do once he began telling his son the first stories, or was this something that gradually happened over time, resulting in going places the Reverend never thought possible before?
How do you think Awdry felt about the idea of other people writing new stories for his characters? On the one hand he was happy to let Christopher Awdry get on with writing new books without interference. On the other hand the TV series writers' attempts to create new stories were clearly not up to his standards. Do you think he could ever have been happy with new stories written by TV writers or writers from outside the Awdry family?

When getting to know the Reverend and understanding his stories, could you connect any of the recurring themes, characters and the universe he created as a whole with mythology from all mythological cultures that you know off?
