I've been working at my latest placement, in St Thomas's Hospital. We're literally opposite the Houses of Parliament, which makes it very easy to tell when lunchtime is. And unlike my last placement, there is next to no chance of my walking into a room full of dead children by mistake. That was, without a doubt, the worst day at work I have ever had. Wow, that had to leave some scars there ^^' Dear me! ^^' Am currently looking into schools in VA., when and if I get there in the next two years I will approach the curator at VMT to see if I can design for him XD ~Elizabeth

I'm working a job at my local supermarket for about 4 1/2 years now. I know that's long for a part time job, but it's not like I haven't tried looking for others. Last September, I actually tried to quit my old job (I was a bagger) and went and applied for a job at Target, even going as far as to getting an interview. I didn't get the job, and boy am I glad I didn't! Within 3 months I got an increase in pay from $7.20 to $8.40, then got promoted to cashier at the end of November! To top it all off my salary increased AGAIN from $8.40 to $11.60! Extraordinary for a part-time job! Now I'm not even gonna look for another job again until my college internship rolls around next year!

Tomorrow, I'll be doing my annual charity work on Star Day (for the Starlight Children's Foundation). But this time, I am the team leader.
I'm a little nervous about this, but I'm also looking forward to it. I've got a very special reason for doing this. When Star Day's over, I'll tell you what it is.

I've been working as a Computer Technician in my school's IT Department for the past few months. My job entails imaging computers, as well as delivering and installing them across campus for $8.50 an hour. Most of my time is spent imaging, also known as "sitting around for thirty minutes with nothing to do." So I do my homework while I wait. Or log on to SiF.

I work at Dome Cafe (It's actually Do Me Cafe, just everyone thinks it's Dome. Silly people!) It's fun. The people I work with are slightly crazy, so I fit in fine. Also, our duties are cycled, so we never get bored doing one job. n_n
Amazingly, I got the job within three hours of applying. Quite possibly a world record!

Ha, I'm done with work until next summer- yeehaw!
Seriously, we had the option of working fall weekends from school starting to Labor Day, and I chose to work Sundays. It was absolute HELL. I've learned my lesson to not go for it again-as in next summer.

I'm working as a part time Gym Receptionist now....... I'm so good at it I've been offered more hours, along with a few others who work there. Natrually, it's at the expense of a few of the lazier people though....... so I may be doomed further down the line.

Amazingly, I got the job within three hours of applying. Quite possibly a world record! I've got you beat there, Amber. A few years ago I got a job at a Toy Store immediately upon applying. But, I do think they were desperate.

I worked as a cleaner for a couple of months. What made my particular job interesting was that I cleaned St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney. I particularly cleaned the Cardinal George Pell's private sacristy. I only did it for a couple of months. It was exceptionally hard work and I couldn't handle it well.
I then worked as a Mail sorter and then a store officer for the University of Sydney (That's right, I have now worked 5 different jobs for the same mob!).

I don't have a full-time job unfortunately, I've been rejected many times in either application or interview stage. Because of my BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, many engineering firms won't take me on cause (to them) I lack experience with the types of machinery used (when I don't). I tried for a 4-year apprenticeship at the Llangollen Railway earlier this year but I was rejected with no explanation as to why, ever since I've hated that railway (even though it's a 45 minute drive away). However I have recently applied as a postman for my local sorting office and done both application and interview stages but before I get the job, I'd have to do a physical as the job requires some heavy lifting. But in the meantime, I can do some babysitting for a few friends and get £20 a job from it, so it's not all too bad . EDIT: Now I have a job, postman!! Tis tiring doing sorting and delivery but hey, at least there's cash on the other side every week.

I'm not really sure about whether or not I really want to keep my job...... I really need it, considering how long I've been out of work, but at the same time, I'm not happy with the way I'm treated at work.
I recieved absolutely no training (likewise with most other receptionists) and we pretty much learn through each other, and there are occassionally problems that we can't handle. A few times I've asked for help, and the requests have fell on dead ears, sometimes resulting in me having to ask the member to call back another day, or just make up some excuse on the spot.
Then there's the attitude of some members...... the ones that complain about, well, anything really. Just today, I got a vicious phone call from the parent of an ex-member who was adamanet it was my fault his daughter was still getting contacted by the gym, even though she had quit. I was trying to explain to him that this was nothing to do with me (I don't make calls, I take them), and who he should speak to instead, but he was more intent on yelling at me, and pretty much demanded that I never called their number again (not that I know what it was), and slammed the phone down on me......
More or less every week I go there, something will go wrong. It won't be my fault, but I'll get the blame. My manager is quick to reprimand me, yet very reluctant to help...... as are a few of the staff. Though in all fairness, that's only really 10% of the staff, the rest are all great.
So hence the dilemma.
Pros:
I have a job....... which I NEED Made new friends with great people Money Experience Learning new skills
Cons:
No help when needed Abusive members Clueless staff Little to no progress made in general since I've been there.
Henceforth........ what do I do?

Well, if you are very unhappy with the atmosphere at your work and if there is absolutely no higher authority to speak to about your problems, then I say you should probably quit. If I was in that situation, I would
Granted, finding jobs is easier said than done, but I'm sure there are some places out there who could help you in finding work that you would be interested in?

I suggest you ask your superiors for a quiet chat in there office, easier said than done but if they will let you then it will be a good chance to express your concernes, if nothing changes then yeah, leave, but try looking for another job before you quit, apply, if you get asked for an interview you don't have to go for it, but if you choose to leave your job, try to set yourself up 1st I never knew this thread existed untill now My 1st job was as a Soldier for about 5.3 years in 3 RHA, on operational tours I went to Cyprus and Iraq twice, liked the 'Army' stuff, hated the lifestyle, restriction of life, lack of respect and (DEEP BREATH), I'm stopping there before I go on a moan trip! job 2, current job: Wherehouse operative for IDS / International Decorative Serfaces, I drive forklift trucks, and It isn't bad, money isn't amazing or as good as the Army was but I enjoy most of the work and get alot of free time so It's ok / good for now.

At the moment I currently have a job to keep me afloat while I'm going to uni, at which point I will come out as a fully qualified biotechnician. At the moment, though, I'm working in a Insurance Assessor's office. My job mostly entails me sitting in fornt of a computer doing some typing and answering the phones, but I get to see some really intersting (and sometime hilarious) stuff

CPK, I... don't know. A Simpsons quote comes to mind.
.
Still, I'd look for a new job, but I can't say where... alot of it depends on where your going. And in this situation, I find it hard to relate to a 20+ year old male... but I can say reception does generally suck. Of course, consider that in ANY job, no matter how good your bosses are, you get stupid customers who complain and don't listen and threaten to sue you for all your worth. And actually think they can do it. The best thing to do would be take it away and laugh, because in the end they're usually being quite silly, and their threats are meaningless because they don't even understand the situation.
Just to throw something out there, has anyone considered police work? I'm considering joining the cadets...

I'm still hanging in there at work, I don't really want to quit, as I want to come out of this strong, and prove to myself I'm not a recluse, and I'm not to be walked over either.
I've been given 4 shirts to wear now, (I was wearing my brothers, but that was too big) and they're even bigger than my brothers...... ah well, at least they're not too small.
Just got to learn how to clean the coffee machine now. Every time I do it, I find some new way to break it.
I'm not going to quit, even slightly hinting towards that to anyone there seems to make them desperately beg me to stay, regardless of how well they know me...... so I must be god for something.
It's just the occassional abusive members and helpless staff that I've got to sort out really.
