Oldest Jaguar XKE V12. The XKE was made in three series.
1961 to 1968: Series I 1969 to 1971: Series II 1971 to 1974: Series III
The series III were the first Jaguars to have the V12 Engine. What I saw was a 1971 Jaguar XKE Series III, which is the oldest of that specific Series. After doing a little research, depending on body styles and such, there are repeating serial numbers.
So, I saw the earliest Left-Hand Drive, 2+2 Coupe, Series III XKE in the world!

Insert blowing of dust from thread joke here. Thanks. This seems like an odd topic for what I perceive as a mostly train related forum which I assume is the reason for its inactivity, but having an interest in cars myself it's something I'll get behind gladly. In September last year I purchased my first car, though it's also my third car, a 1972 Ford XA Falcon ute or 'pick-up' for the non-Australians here. It isn't exactly a looker yet; (that's me and the Falcon by the way, you can see what I mean) but I've already planned what I want it to look like once finished. As far as the good stuff goes, yes, it's a V8. I bought the car with a 302ci cleveland and a C4 automatic, though the gearbox was screwed so it's in the process of being converted to a 4-speed single rail manual. Unfortunately none of that was factory, as originally it was 'ultra white' with a 200ci six cylinder and a '3 on the tree' manual. I plan to fill it with all the GS goodies such as driving lights, GT gauges and the GS stripe and also add some little bits such as a GT spoiler. Look at me rambling on as if people know what I'm saying But yeah, it's a car. Vroom. As far as things I'd like to drive, I'd like to own an XA, XB or XC Falcon coupe, simply because they look good. Or a Valiant Charger. Also, the final thing in this post I swear. I've never had a proper dream car that I'd pine over all the time, though my subconscious is drawn to the opposition in the form of a green Holden HG Monaro and also a HQ Monaro 2 Door. A Monaro is understandable, as my father has had quite a few and he went through a lot with his red HG. Green is the interesting part, as any green car my father has owned has been 'Jinxed'. Apparently. So yeah. Cars. - Nick

Nice to see more car enthusiasts here! Were those ever referred to as a 'Ranchero' in Australia? Originally based on the Fairlane (I think), they moved over to the Falcon base model (like yours) for most of its life.

As far as I know they were always under the Falcon name from their introduction. Here everything was based on the Falcon and various things were changed such as the bonnet and guards and the length of the rear to turn them into the upmarket Fairlane and LTD respectively.

That ute is a beaut. I'm so glad somebody dusted off this thread, as I didn't want to double-post. What kind of horsepower and torque will it put out?

Using the base 302 stats, 240bhp and 305lb-ft, however mine needs a bit of work done so that the dual fuel contraption doesn't hamper the performance. On a side note, we found a GS / GT dash for it.

My dad just bought himself a Mercedes-Benz SL500. It is a 2003, but very low mileage. Unfortunately, the weather was windy and cold so we couldn't ride with the top down on the half hour journey home, but I'm sure there will be several times this summer when that can be done!

Okay. for design class this semester I was designing a car to pay tribute to the XB Falcon hardtops in a similar fashion to the 2005 to 2014 Ford Mustangs did. It took me a while to get the design to this point and countless photocopies traced over etc. I was satisfied with this up until yesterday at some point when I looked at my Blender WIP and decided to start again with minor changes. Minor changes started out as tilting the entire roof assembly 2 degrees rearward, then after watching too much Top Gear I was finally bitten by the 'supercar bug' as I shall call it, and that was that. Now I've ended up with a completely new design which would fit in quite comfortably with the supercars of today as opposed to the somewhat already outdated previous version. I know of one other person in my design class that is doing car design and he was aiming for a supercar. You may say I'm a bit of a bad person because I tried drawing a supercar schematic specifically to show up his drawing skills, and you'd be right to accuse me. Enough waffling, as I now have a completely different design in the making the old ones are redundant thus you fine people can have them. The front, of course. The Side. And finally the top. I did make a rear view as well, but it isn't very tidy thus I'll leave it out and you can use your imagination. This is as far as I got with the Blender model before the radical redesign. Plus, with my new super secret shh shh design I can actually claim to have used my imagination rather than rounding the edges of a 40 year old car. Have fun. P.S. Yo, Vicar, could we see a picture of the Merc please?

As requested! This isn't the exact one in my garage, although it is identical in every way, except my dad's spokes are different and his has a red leather interior. Same colour and trim, though. I like your designs, too. Very 1980s esque! I wish I was more talented for digital design. That is one area where I never really explored with, and as a result, don't have much to show for. Here is one I did (on paper) this past Christmas. I am doing everything in my power to attain one of these antiques for next year. I am working more than full time hours at work, explaining to my dad about how it could be attained, working out storage and insurance, etc. Perhaps next summer this dream will become reality! Owning a classic at a young age is a dream for any car enthusiast, and alfredtheloaned, I am envious of you being able to start the classic car hobby at a young age

I never ever liked the look of a soft top, so if you want a convertible, hard-tops are the only way to go in my opinion.

Damn, that is one cool convertible. According to various sites it's a V8 too, good stuff, nothing beats the roar of a V8 Speaking of V8's, I've finally had the pleasure of driving my XA with the new manual gearbox which we finished fitting today. During this time we also switched over the steering columns to one from the correct era which fixed 90% of the wiring issues the car had previously, though this was short lived as the blinkers ceased working. The gear changes are going to take some getting used to, as 1st is where 3rd would be in a conventional 5 speed car, 2nd where 4th would be, 3rd as 5th and 4th as reverse. Reverse however is the real hard part, as I actually have to push the gearstick down towards the floor of the car and then forward. Its just a small enough movement for me to question if I'm in the correct gear or not. Also, if anybody wants to hear the dirty unrefined noise my car puts out, here are some clips compiled into a single video. First is us starting the car shortly after we brought it home, next are some clips of the exhaust and the noise from it, then there's a short clip when we took it for a test run and finally me moving the car about in all my neckbearded glory until finally it ran out of fuel.

Nice sounds there. Would consider putting in a glasspack to give it even more of an oomf?

Today was a major milestone for me today. I drove an antique car for the very first time today, and that car was a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe. It was such a cool experience, with the very heavy steering, poor turning radius, slow acceleration and even slower deceleration . I am volunteering at a car show this weekend and went down today to practice driving. On a side note, I also got to go in the museum's storage warehouse, and it was spectacular. There was a little more than 150 cars stored on two stories down 8 aisles. It was like a scene out of Indiana Jones. Rare cars, valuable cars, restored cars, cars that are too far gone and deteriorated to restore.

So today I got to test drive my aunt's new VY or VZ SS commodore, and oh boy was it fun! She's planning on putting a fully sik exhaust system in and some subs yo. Also two weeks ago (and I hope this is all good) I went and bought a motorcycle to get out of the house more. It's also fun, and getting off of it and into a car makes everything seem slow. Except the SS. - Nick

We're looking to get a new family car. One that my parents can use, and when they sell the house and move, I can take over the lease for. Toyota Camry or Subaru Legacy is what we're down for. My parents want the Camry, because we already have one and know they're practically bulletproof in reliability, while I want the Legacy for the AWD in the snow. Anyone have an opinion on either?

I am looking for a Land Rover 110 pickup as I know how handy it will be for me. I have always liked Land Rovers. My Uncle has three. One of the last Series I, a Forward Control 101 ex military and is left hand drive and a TD 90 as a runabout.
I prefer old cars to the more modern stuff. It is the character of them if nothing else. A friend of mine collects but also sells Ford Anglias. He has his own personal one which he calls Penelope.
I also love Morris Minors too though it would be some time before I would ever get round to owning one due to other priorities at this time. My dad had one and I have some photos of it but he had to sell it before I was old enough to drive otherwise it would have been my first car. My other favourite type of car is the Reliant Robin. Would genuinely love to own a three wheeler and especially one of these little things!

I am very VERY excited to say that I will be an owner of an antique car in a few weeks! I bit the bullet, and bought myself a beautiful 1929 Ford Model A roadster! I worked pretty dang hard to make it happen, and I persevered through the process, no matter how many times people told me it couldn't happen, and how many roadblocks came up.
Set yourself a goal, work towards it a little everyday, and the results will come. It took me 2 years to get to this point since I made it my goal sitting in my high school history class in April 2015. I will post a few pictures of it once I have it in my possession.
