What's up with cars these days just having "start" buttons? It seems like they'd be much easier for people to steal.

Yeah, but the start button will usually only activate once the key (or keycard) has been inserted, so you just press a button rather than turn a key. Not all that much different, really, as a thief would still have to hotwire it correctly

"Start" buttons are nothing new or modern. They stopped putting them on Mini's in 1983!

When this baby hits 88 Mph your going to see so serious stuff! My dream car is a DMC-12. I will own one one day its my dream. I actually saw a DeLorean for sale on the street when I went to Alaska. Now you too can have this car, for only 44,000 dollars! My list of cars is constantly growing. Now I want a 1977 Lincoln Continental. What a luxurious ship! And what is with start buttons? Really seems no more convenient to me.

Got my first car a few months ago as an early graduation gift. It's a brown 2008 Hyundai Sonata (limited). Really happy with it, especially since I'll be needing it for college in the fall...

Ah, didn't know about this one. Sorry! anyway, yeah, you may have seen what I drive, and what I'd like to. EDIT: Posted intro to other thread here. Talk to anyone who knows me, and they'll tell you that I'm a HUGE car guy. My favorite videogame is Gran Turismo, I like GT and Touring car racing, and I'm pretty much accepting of anything for public highways that doesn't have an electric motor involved. (I'm lookin' at YOU, Prius!) Or 50,000 watts of stereo and 20" rims. (The Fast and The Furious. Blargh.) I'll start off with what I own, and what I'd like to. My car: 1988 Chevrolet Nova (AE82) jim-prower.deviantart.com/art/Chevy-Nova-AE82-front-36266974jim-prower.deviantart.com/art/Chevy-Nova-AE82-Back-36267305(Posted links as actual size is enormous.) I've called the little guy Percy: Always determined, rather small, not very fast, has never left me stranded. Not all that comfortable on the "mainline" (interstate) either. (very short gearing on 3-speed auto.) The car's based on the Toyota Corolla from a year before. Engine: 1.6L 4A-C engine: 90HP (Great mileage!) Tranny: 3-speed As for my current favorites... 1: 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird 2: 1969-1974 Datsun 240Z (S30) 3: 2009 Nissan GT-R (R35) 4: 1951 Hudson Hornet 5: 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 (C6) 6: 1986-1992 Ford Europe Sierra RS500 Cosworth 7: 1983-1986 Toyota Corolla Levin/GT-S/Sprinter Trueno (AE86) 8: 1992 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II 9: 1987 Buick Regal Grand National GNX 10: 2008 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG So, that's me, how about you?

Those things could hit 80, although they'd run out of steam pretty quickly. and be very scary to turn and stop... O~O

A car I like is a 1964 Chevy Impala Lowrider. I like 'em coz they can "bounce" to almost every Hip-Hop song on my iPod. Plus my favorite artists ride and use low-riders. I'd especially like one in a black color scheme and a convertable roof. Most of all, one with cupholders . Edit: One of these babies.

This kind of goes in with cars: I was wondering what everyone's favorite Batmobile is? I love the one from the original 60s show. I'd definitely want to drive that down the street.

I read somewhere that the original Batmobile was so heavy that it couldn't go very fast (@ 40 MPH or something like that) But I'd drive this to work: 1970 Fiat 500 Gamine. Me Want! I wonder if a blue bonnet is included More details here: www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C15393?pt=pfFirst car I owned was a '78 LTDII which I bought off my dad in '84 I've owned pickups ever since... 1987 F-150 Lariat 1998 F-150 XL in '99 in James' livery. (pics soon) 2007 F-150 STX super cab last year (pics soon) With the latest one, I practically wore the Ford dealership down asking for extra freebies - stepboards, tonneau cover etc. I felt that they didn't give me enough for the '98's trade-in. My next vehicle is likely to be an ox and cart

The original Barris Batmobile? I did always like that one... I'd think, though, that a hot rodder like ol' George could get her doing above 40, though. According to this site: www.1966batmobile.com/The car was acutally the Lincoln Futura concept, before Barris "kustomized" it. The engine was Ford's big 390CI engine (I'd guess the same one that carried Steve McQueen's Mustang up and OVER the hills of San Francisco) but the car weighed 5,500 lbs, or roughly the same as a 2008 Ford Expedition. Even with the 4bbl, big-block Ford, It probably wouldn't win any drag races. I imagine it's capable of highway speeds, though. Then there's this guy: Which is freakin' unstoppable.

If I remember correctly, rather than engine performance, the lower speeds had more to do with the weight making the suspension suck. Still love to sit in the driver's seat of the classic version, though. I remember owning a die-cast model of it as a child. I used broken bits of uncooked spaghetti for the flare launcher .

You're probably right on that: car really wasn't intended to move all too fast in the first place, being a concept. If it came to TV cars, though... That'd be my first choice. One that hadn't been jumped, though.

Right. I'm fairly certain you might get a few problems once the car's been jumped. "Is it supposed to scrape the road like that?" However, I have recently fallen in love with a certain little car called the 1948 Tucker Sedan, better known as the Torpedo. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tucker_TorpedoTruly tragic tale of a one-of-a-kind innovative car that could have changed the car industry, if it weren't for the greedy Big 3 who didn't want the competition and muscled poor Preston Tucker. And just look where they are now...

The Tucker was a neat old car...but I'd be a little afraid of lift-off snap oversteer...it had a BIG flat 6 behind the rear axle.
Speaking of the big 3...FIAT bought a part stake in one of them. Chrysler.
If any Company could use some Passion, it's that one.

Clarkson's unimpressed if it's not British or German. Just seems to be the way he is. Anything remotely American he lauds. (He even argues that the Ford GT is British.)
And yet he swoons over the very musclecar-like C63 AMG. Granted, he's entertaining to listen to, but I'd probably end up chewing him out if we started discussing American cars. Or Ferraris.
I'm sorry. The F430 Sounds like a pair of Toyota 4A-GE engines joined at the crank.

I really want a moggy, you know, Morris Minor. These Babies: I don't know why, but one of these wouldn't be that bad either: Reliant Robin. LushMad, you say? I could be the James May of this forum? JACK!!! Where have you been? Someone who likes the same cars as myself!!! My Dad used to have a light blue Morris Minor that he called Doris. I used to drive it into the garage when i was tiny. I don't remember as i was too young. He always said he wished he had kept it so that i could have it when i was 17. Wouldn't mind a rarer split screen version. Saw a green one on the island of Rhodes When i was 12. It was in mint condition. Good for its age. As for Robin Reliants I've seen one for sale but i can't afford, right now to buy one. It is a 51 plate so must be last of the builds but i'm not sure. It is in a nice red colour. Have seen it a couple of times when going to work. I'd love to put twin exhausts and call it the Flying Wheelbarrow with a few flame stickers along the side. Just to be different of course. My ultimate garage would be: Ford Escort Cosworth Robin Reliant Morris Minor Trident Bubblecar (If no-one is sure about this i have a picture of one. It always turns up at Flookburgh steam gathering each year) Land Rover Defender (90 version not 110) That Swedish supercar the Koenisegg (Or however it is spelt) And lastly a T1 Caparo, Britain's answer to a supercar. The one that Clarkson said you have to do 60mph+ round the roundabouts to get enough down force so that it grips otherwise you'll spin and die! And as a dream car the Batmobile from the first Michael Keaton film. Only problem is my town has silly speed bumps and i'd find it hard to get over a few of them in any of the last three!
