Cracking news, lad! I wonder whether Fluffles will appear or not? I'm guessing not, but that's my opinion.

It's certainly been great to have the incredible duo back - although, not being a fan of The Simpsons myself, I'm not at all sure what to think about the idea of their appearing in that series. What impresses me most about this interpretation of Wallace & Gromit is that, despite only being hosts, they're really giving us an insight into why inventions has such an appeal to Wallace. The ideas for such things as taking short trips in space in a capsule seem especially ingenius. I just hope we haven't seen the last of the rocket, though...

Oh... Gromit... I understand that Peter Sallis is perhaps getting too old to voice Gromit, but the way that article puts it, as in '...may never return to our screens.' really makes me sad...

To be honest, I kind of think it's right to stop given the circumstances. Peter Sallis is Wallace; to continue without him would be rather disrespectful. I know they have had a stand-in Wallace for some of the spin offs and merchandise (I don't really follow the franchise closely enough to know which ones), but I don't think it'd be right to have him step into Sallis's shoes full time.
Plus, the first three films are such classics that I doubt Wallace and Gromit would fade into obscurity if no more new specials/spin offs were made. They will live forever.

Personally, it just saddens me to hear that a national treasure like Peter Sallis is in poor health - more so than the thought of no more W&G films. I'd definitely respect Park's wishes if he does call it a day. Even though four shorts and a feature film over a quarter century might not sound a lot to look back on, there's still their briefer appearances to treasure, like Cracking Contraptions and the seemingly dozens of TV ads. They've done more than you realise with the characters over the years. However, say they do go down the soundalike route - I'd quite like to see them get hold of David Fenwick. He played a younger version of Clegg in the Last of the Summer Wine prequel, and IMO sounds far less forced than the current "stand-in" voice for Wallace: Short clip of him talking here

I can only echo what everyone else has said. It's sad to hear that his health is in decline, although, sadly, it's not unexpected when you reach the age that Peter Sallis has reached.
If they never make another Wallis and Gromit film then fair enough, the originals will still be there. They've built up a very good reputation just on the back of them. I listened to Ben Whitehead as voice of Wallis at the Wallace and Gromit prom, and although he did a fair enough impersonation of Sallis it was a poorer version of the real thing.

I have heard this ISN'T peter Sallis. It is a shame to hear about his health as he IS Wallace but this guy does sound a lot like him. I thought it was Sallis at first.

If this is not Sallis then whoever it is really should be their go-to if they decide to make another W&G production. The supposed "stand-in" they've used for things like the recent point and click games has the mannerisms nailed down but he seems to sound too young to pull off the voice. Edit: A quick bit of snooping around is pointing to the idea that this might actually be the same guy as the one from the games. If so he's improved considerably.

It would be sad if Nick Park calls it a day for W&G and I would accept it for his respect. The stand in does sound a bit off putting but not bad. I remember hearing him the 2012 diamond jubilee video on YT and try to think its either Sallis of him.

For the record, my initial reaction to this was one of dismay and rightly so - Wallace and Gromit have been such a part of our lives up to now that it's hard to imagine them not getting up to something. It's been a long time since I last saw Matter Of Loaf & Death too so I can't really claim to be an expert in this regard but, from the way critics reacted to it, I'm really not at all sure if it makes much of a finale.
If I ever had to look to something for that, it would probably be either World Of Invention or Curse Of The Were Rabbit (most likely the former).
With the knowledge that Peter Sallis isn't in the best state nowadays, it would be nice to have at least just one more adventure with these characters, whether he portrays Wallace or not.
All the same, ever since Curse Of The Were Rabbit came out, I have wondered how long Mr Sallis would be able to continue. And I must admit that it would be very hard to feature the two without him (although I'm sure I'm not the only one who would gladly volunteer to stand in, given the chance). So perhaps it's better for the two to retire and let Shaun become the on-screen mascot.
Plus, Chris does have a point concerning the legacy of Wallace and Gromit. They're both as iconic to Aardman as the Toy Story characters are to Pixar and, for that reason at least, their fame will probably withstand the test of time.

It's a shame to see peter sallis go, but I do understand about poor health, I can't say I've got a favorite episode, as they are all good, but I Remember Grand Day Out the most.

It's a pity that we may never see Wallace and Gromit again, but the classic stories are still amazing, and they will forever be remembered by them alone.

Its sad to hear that Peter Sallis has now passed on: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-40165443Obviously a majority of us enjoyed listening to his voice-acting as Wallace, whilst for others it was for his portrayal of Cleggy in Last of the Summer Wine, but I can remember another show he did where his voice-acting talents really emerged before Wallace & Gromit - which for any who don't know was Rocky Hollow, made by Bumper Films the firm behind the creation of the original Fireman Sam. Rest in Peace; Peter Sallis, you leave a Cracking Legacy.

Hey there everyone! I too am very fond of Wallace & Gromit, my favorite would have to be Curse of the Were-Rabbit. Such hilarious comedy and amazing behind-the-scenes work with the Claymation. Anyways, I wanted to share a video that is a remix of Wallace & Gromit, it is a genre of music called Plunderphonics, which uses voices, sounds, and music from TV shows and/or movies to make a song, here it is:
