13. Expanding on the above, many soft drinks were originally sold as slightly quack medicines. Coca-Cola was advertised to cure many things - hangovers were one (though in rather euphemistic terms), as were dyspepsia, headaches, drug addiction and impotence. "Pepsi" was indeed originally sold to combat stomach disorders, specifically dyspepsia (hence the name). Other drinks to be sold on medicinal properties include Vimto and Dr Pepper (hence that "doctor" in the name).
14. Irn-Bru is still used for its medicinal properties - particularly in Scotland, it is cited as a hangover cure. Ironically, it was never marketed for its medicinal properties.
