I believe this may be Flora, who I have heard rumours that such a type of engine operated in parts of Australia.

I struggled to read that, but I'm guessing you mean 2 Awdry stories combined into one television episode. In that case, Edward and Gordon, James and the Coaches, Whistles and Sneezes, Escape, Four Little Engines and Special Attraction, so all up, 6. There's a couple more which incorporate small bits of one story into another (Time for Trouble having bits of Gordon goes Foreign, and Thomas and Stepney having parts of the one with Stepney's arrival), but that's just being pedantic! Only a wee few of Awdry's books had all four stories adapted, as four individual episodes, which aired one after the other, and in the same order as they were written in the books. Which books were they? You're right! They are the correct answers!

Since you didn't answer OldSquareWheels' question, I will. 1. Tank Engine Thomas Again ("Thomas & the Guard", "Thomas Goes Fishing", "Thomas, Terence & the Snow" & "Thomas & Bertie"). 2. Edward the Blue Engine ("Cows", "Bertie's Chase", "Saved From Scrap" & "Old Iron") 3. Gallant Old Engine ("Special Funnel", "Steamroller", "Passengers & Polish" & "Gallant Old Engine)* I make it three. Don't quote me on the last one though. I know the last one! But I'll just have to wait. Btw does anyone know the answer to mine? EDIT: Don't be shy

Hmm, let's see... Well he appears driving away on a bike, and in a photo, so that's 2... that's all I can think of. I don't watch the movie much so I'm bound to be wrong.
What's the 250th letter in Tank Engine Thomas again?

"Revives thread from the dead" Hmm, let's see... Well he appears driving away on a bike, and in a photo, so that's 2... that's all I can think of. I don't watch the movie much so I'm bound to be wrong. What's the 250th letter in Tank Engine Thomas again? Including the title page but not the copyright page, (the bit where it says "First published in Great Britain in 1949. This edition published 2007 by Egmont UK limited.") the 250th letter in my copy of the book is the letter a in the word 'travel' in the introduction. Slightly more interesting question. Out of the eleven steam engines on the Fat Controller's railway in the Railway Series, who are the only two of them who never travel on Thomas' branch line at any point in the books?

Well Thomas travels on it of course, Percy and Toby too. Thomas and Bertie mentions James rattling through with a good train, Down the Mine has Gordon come to rescue Thomas so must have travelled along the line, Donald and Douglas retrieve Thomas from the station masters house, and Duck fills in for Thomas when he's ill in The Runaway which leaves us with... 3 Engines? So we have Edward, Henry and Oliver left over. But hang on! During the events of Percy Runs away, the Fat Controller tells Edward, Thomas and Percy that they may play in the branch line for a few days, meaning Edward must have traversed the line at some point, so that leaves us with Henry and Oliver!
Okay, here goes.
What is the total number of wheels of all Sodor based engines? (Any gauge) Hee Hee Hee, evil maths.

Correct! Percy Runs Away also mentions Edward taking empty trucks to the quarry so he was definitely on Thomas' line at that point. We don't know if Henry or Oliver have ever been on Thomas' branch line, but if they have we're never told about it.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
346 (That took me two, yes TWO, times to count them all)
Now then:
In Series 1 to 7, barring the original 'Duck & The Diesel Engine' trilogy, what episodes did Diesel appear in, before becoming pretty much a main character from Series 8 onwards? (cameo roles count)

A total of 12.
How many times did Toby appear as a cameo character, in S1-16 (I haven't seen all of S17, as most of us)?

Besides the original Duck and the Diesel Trilogy, Diesel was in: Percy Takes the Plunge Thomas and the Missing Christmas Tree Gordon and the Famous Visitor Thomas, Percy and the Dragon Diesel Does it Again Mavis Edward, Trevor and the Really Useful Party (Only in a deleted scene from a magazine) Tender Engines Escape Rusty to the Rescue The World's Strongest Engine Fergus Breaks the Rules
I'm guessing that's how superengine999 made his total of 12.
Thanks to the Thomas Wikia (cheating, I know, but I didn't think anyone was going to answer it otherwise), here are the series 1-16 episodes Toby's cameoed in: Season 3 - Gordon and the Famous Visitor Season 6 - A Bad Day for Harold the Helicopter, Scaredy Engines, Percy and the Haunted Mine, Percy's Chocolate Crunch, Thomas, Percy and the Squeak Season 7 - Edward's Brass Band, Harold and the Flying Horse, Not So Hasty Puddings Season 8 - Percy's New Whistle, As Good as Gordon Season 9 - Percy and the Oil Painting, Thomas and the Toy Shop, Thomas and the Birthday Picnic, Thomas Tries His Best, Saving Edward, and Keeping up with James Season 10 - Thomas and the Colours Season 11 - Thomas and the Storyteller, Gordon and the Engineer, Thomas and the Spaceship, Hide and Peep Season 12 - Thomas and the Billboard, Heave Ho Thomas! Season 13 - Time For a Story, Splish, Splash, Splosh! Season 14 - Pingy Pongy Pick Up, Diesel's Special Delivery, O the Indignity Season 15 - Edward the Hero, Happy Hiro, Let it Snow, Surprise, Surprise; Tree Trouble, Fiery Flynn Season 16 - Ol' Wheezy Wobbles, Express Coming Through, Flash Bang Wallop!, Thomas and the Rubbish Train, Thomas Toots the Crows, Bust My Buffers!, Thomas and the Sounds of Sodor, Salty's Surprise, Welcome Stafford
A total of 44 episodes.

Here's a musical one: How many different variations of Percy's theme/motif are heard between seasons 1 and 3 inclusive, variants using the same base midi or whatever with extra instruments, or with verses cut/added/repeated DO COUNT. *mwa-ha-haa* *EDIT* if no-one's answered this in another week, I'll just post the answer to it anyway, otherwise I feel like I'm holding up the thread! *EDIT AGAIN* just to get this thread moving again, I make it about 25, see if you can spot them all.

Flipping through one of the Railway Series books yesterday a tiny detail that I'd forgotten about jumped out at me, so I'll see if anyone else here remembers it. In which story does a signalman climb up a telegraph pole?

Woolly Bear, when everyone's waiting for Percy.
I know this has already been asked on page 1, but now I'm going to extend it. How many episodes in the entire TV series have not featured Thomas in any way, shape or form? Believe it or not, when you consider how many episodes there are, there's not all that many no-Thomas-episodes in the pre-HIT era either.

I make it 48 Thomas-free episodes out of 447. This covers all 18 series, plus Jack & The Pack. Haven't included the unaired S18 eps, the movie, feature-length specials, deleted scenes or "mentions" by other characters (Daisy, Mountain Marvel). {Spoiler}S01 - 5 S02 - 6 S03 - 4 S04 - 3 S05 - 5 S06 - 5 S07 - 7 S08 - 1 S09 - 0 S10 - 1 S11 - 2 S12 - 3 S13 - 0 S14 - 0 S15 - 0 S16 - 0 S17 - 2 S18 - 3 JATP - 1 Well, since I can't think of anything to follow that... Same question OSW's above then, but with Percy instead. I'd be interested to see how his appearances tally with Thomas's as one of the most prominent characters.

161 Percy-free episodes out of 447 I make it. Percy's disadvantaged in the first series by not turning up until episode 16, and he didn't get to appear in any of the narrow-gauge episodes from S9-12, which accounts for his high number of absent episodes from those series. Even outside that though there's never been a single series in which Thomas' appearances didn't outstrip Percy's. S01 - 20 S02 - 8 S03 - 6 S04 - 4 S05 - 6 S06 - 9 S07 - 8 S08 - 5 S09 - 11 S10 - 13 S11 - 10 S12 - 13 S13 - 4 S14 - 5 S15 - 7 S16 - 6 S17 - 12 S18 - 5 JATP - 9 Right, new question from me. In which five episodes do bulls appear?

S4's Bulls-eyes, S5's Gordon and the Gremlins, S6's Faulty Whistles, S7's Percy Gets it Right and Jack and The Pack's Tortoise and the Hare.
How many times have Bertie's passengers had to be rescued by the railway?
